Good morning! Nice day here too. Foggy earlier but it’s burned off now. I’m on the screened porch watching and realized the sound is so good on the videos that when birds chirp, I can’t tell if it’s outside here or in the video! Those who question why you aren’t chipping have never chipped wood. It is so labor intensive and even a bit dangerous. Have a limb or stick smack you in the face once and you start hating it! Plus, who doesn’t love a good fire???
No more dangerous than running a chainsaw.
@@realairplane261 Although I agree with you that both have the potential of serious injury if not careful, I agree with One Eye, its slow/labor intensive and even with caution I usually get a wack or two, or a piece shoots back each day I run the Woodland Mills chipper. Running the chainsaw is typically pretty uneventful.
A good chipper will have feed rollers so you do not have to stand there and feed it. Woodland mills chippers are on the low end.
Best to wear a helmet with a face visor when feeding limbs into a chipper.
Nice job on transferring the logs across the road to the wood yard. Love watching you work the excavator. Keep them coming.

What a good neighbor she is for letting you have the wood. And what a good neighbor you are for taking the wood she offered and for you doing a nice clean up of the land where the trees came from. That's a community, helping each other. Stay safe.

Mike, I really get great enjoyment out of seeing you plan a project like this wood retrieval. I think that many times, a great part of the enjoyment of that kind of work is laying out the steps to be efficient and minimize double effort. You are the pro at that! 👍👍👍

Another beautiful job! You'll never have a problem finding work. As your reputation precedes you! Thanks for sharing. I have gallon skid tank out next to generator shed to fuel tractor and is plumbed into the home furnace. Works real nice. Local supplier can back upand pull hose about 10' to fill.
That day you cut the tree and cleaned it all up sitting in the excavator, I thought how perfectly wise that was. So safe, comfortable, neat and so quickly completed! Smarter not harder. If you needed chips, ok, use the chipper. What you did there - incredible! After you finished and parked the excavator and got out, your back was unharmed, now that says it all! Even the stump was up and gone!!! The entire tree removal from stump to tiniest branches, completely down and cleaned up sitting in a temperature controlled cab w a comfortable seat, listening to music - that's so perfect! And somebody thought you should have spent 6 hours sawing, dragging and making a huge mess, busting your back and using gallons of fuel to chip the tree when you had no need for chips? I remember you saying, "I need to start calling UA-cam, YouShould." Lol! I learned a long time ago, and I even told you in a comment, you're always saying you are no expert, but what you were doing was EXACTLY as an expert would be doing it, so you should stop saying that. Whatever you are doing, we all can rest assured you know what, why, when and how! I guess you'll always be explaining the details for all the youshoulders out there and just so you know, I'm not one of those! You're my #1, top favorite channel, basically because of the best ways you do stuff. Thanks for all you do and sharing it w us.👍🚜❤
There are times to chip and times to burn. I use my chipper when the material is reasonable to handle and put it in one pile then I bucket load into one spot for use later. I burn more than I chip and it is easier with an excavator. That project looks like a lot of work but the wood is worth it for sure. Thanks for another well done video.
Where you deal with lots of different wood, have you ever considered bagging some of the wood chips for smokers in propane grills? It would be a good way to maximize what you spend on fuel and you could use "Outdoors with the Morgans" as the brand name. Just an idea being tossed out there!

4 years ago we had a late season snowstorm. IT was heavy wet snow and we lost around 150 small trees. Trees up to around 6 or 8 inches. I hired a guy with a remote control track chipper to clean it up. It was a massive thing. It would take logs up to 18" or maybe larger. and with the remote, he could swing the discharge and spread the chips all over.
Now that’s how you gather firewood!! My back doesn’t hurt at all🤣 Equipment is gold for the outdoor lifestyle! Can’t wait to get my new Kubota. Looking at the B2601? Thanks for sharing Morgan’s👍🏻👍🏻

I feel your pain on getting fuel. I bring my 50 gal tank and finally just decided to go inside and tell the clerk to set me up for $250 on the off road pump. You might give that a try next time. Quicker than swiping the card 2 or 3 times. Nice job on collecting the logs.
I drive a truck and do the same thing. Walk inside tell them you want 500 dollars worth. Or more by the time you see this. Just came back from Florida. $ 5.79 a gallon in some places on road.
Got some nice logs in a exchange for a little clean up. Everyone won on that deal. The wood shed in the background looks good especially with firewood in it. Had some beautiful weather to get some work done. Better than the rain here in panhandle FL. Got leaves and fuzzy to pick up from the oak trees. Hey to everyone and Have a Day!

I'll pitch in this idea simply because it came to mind--and as old as I am getting (74), I have to do things when they come to mind. Ha! Anyway, Mike, please know that I AM NOT telling you what to do!! I'm just saying what I would do if I had the same opportunity as you. This regards your stickered stacks of wood down at the wood yard.
In order to keep hardwood boards from splitting, checking, cracking as they dry, I would definitely paint the ends of the boards RIGHT NOW before they've dried out any more. I keep a gallon of Anchor Seal on hand, but there are plenty of alternatives (roofing tar, latex paint). All you want is something to seal up the ends of those boards.
My nice stack of cherrybark oak that I've had for 45 years dried almost perfectly, mainly because we painted the ends of the boards with tar just as soon as we got them from the sawmill. In all those boards, I haven't had to cut off the ends of more than 3 boards. So, when I began pulling out boards to make some gorgeous lazy susans, it surely made me feel good to see nearly flawless boards, all ready to go through the planer. Now, that first 18" lazy susan sits right smack in the middle of our breakfast room table and my wife brags on it constantly.
Hmmm.. I guess I COULD be a good friend and throw a can of stuff into my vehicle, drive up to your place, and paint the ends of all those boards for you. But, you might press charges for trespassing. Reckon? :-)

Leaving tools in the trailer: I've got ya beat, Mike.
Somewhere around 16 years ago I finished cutting and chipping with the old Wallenstein (so old it doesn't even have a safety bar!), and the next spot was diagonally across the property. The tractor's bucket was full of fuel cans, bar oil, axes, rope, so the only place left to transport the saw was the chipper hopper. I got to the spot, went through the same pto-off-the-seat procedure you just mentioned, and without another thought pulled up on the pto-engage button.
It probably took two seconds for the noise of the chipper chewing up the bar and chain of the MS280 before my hand involuntarily punched the pto switch back down, but of course it was too late. Luckily, the power head was too large to fit the blade opening. New bar, new chain, and the chipper blades had to be flipped to the second cutting edge. Can't swap out the feeling of self loathing, though...
Always make sure all the doors on your utility bed are secured before taking off....watched a guy from the cable company take off down the road and around a corner dumping tools all over the place because the doors on the bed weren't secured...ooops. Seen that a few times actually. They must not own their own tools, otherwise you'd think they'd take better care to make sure their tools are secured before heading down the road.
I was making a quick repair on a trailer light receptacle on my pickup and set my Leatherman Multi-Tool on the back bumper, realized I needed some parts, jumped in the truck and headed to town, go the parts returned home, and my Leatherman was still on the back bumper...I have no clue how it managed to stay on the bumper going over railroad tracks, around corners, etc. I've never walked way from my Leatherman like that again, I make sure its back in my holster before I walk away.

Did a lot of chipping over the winter, but as summer approaches I'll be burning more brush. I use the ash in the yard/garden. Has been very beneficial for both. I've been using the chipper mulch for the trails and around the house. It's all Eastern Red Cedar, so not only does it look nice, but it smells great too. Still have at least a lifetime of limbs to either burn or mulch - life is great. Looking forward to seeing you saw up those red oaks. Have a Day!

hi mike got a good suggestion you can have you a square tube welded to the top of the excavator blade you could attach your trailer to it and take it back in the woods then you could load it and save a ton of time and work pull it out hook up to the truck and haul it off ive did a few for some guys that blade is plenty strong and so is the mini ex
Next time Mike, go inside first & prepay the fuel in advance, done in ( 1 ) shot, except you may need a 2nd trip, grab a receipt, done, get to work, lol!
The free logs score of what looks like mostly oak is a wonderful thing methinks...

Hi there i live in country that is steeper than that. I use a winch cable to the back of my tractor and winch them up to the point where i i can grab them. If need be use a snatch block and half the pulling weight. I operate my excavator on about 35 degrees. Be careful. Bravo from Victoria Australia

My dad lived on Table Rock Lake in Branson Mo,he had a nice boat but that 20-gallon tank didn't last long. I'm sure you know what they charge for gas on the lake. H bought a 300 gallon tank that was elevated and they wood come down to his house and fill it and he got a discount for buying 300 gallons. He used it for his cars also.
Mike, you keep saying "free firewood from the neighbor". I would say you pretty much EARNED that wood with the awesome cleanup job you did after you got the wood out.
Kudos to you for taking care of the neighbor's property AND getting some good wood too.
I like to burn brush or clearing debris, I add the char to garden and as soil amendments to newly seed grass. It does wonders for garden and lawn. I can also see the advantages of chipping to, my neighbour has talked about buying a chipper for us to use on the back hill in our yards. So we will see if we go into the chipping method also.

Due to local seasonal no burn regulations and wonderful paperwork forms, burning is pretty much out of the question anymore….. For us anyway…. BUT! My chipper is my clean up buddy! I never leave a mess when dropping trees and my trails are paved with wood chips! But if I could I’d have a burn pit for the bigger messes! You gotta do what works best for you!

Firewood must be a valuable commodity in PA with all that expensive equipment!
It's all about how much money you can make by filming the processing of the firewood. If you make anything off the actual sale of firewood, it is like icing on a cake.
I would seal the end grain on those white oak logs!
Filling the transfer tanks is definitely frustrating at the moment. They require 300 gallons to deliver here. Used to seem like overkill but now I’m thinking I may go ahead and do it

Here in NC, my Dad and I use a fuel delivery company that supplies the tank/pump/hose/etc…and they deliver off-road diesel and Def to us as as needed. Cheaper than over the road diesel as we don’t have a nearby off-road diesel pump. We can call in the morning and it’s normally delivered within 24 hours.
Here in Mi. you can go inside the station & the clerk can override the limit.😷⚾

As many pieces of equipment you have now. You should get a local fuel company to bring you a 500 or 1000 gallon tank and they will fill it and not charge for the tank. That's what I had when I running 4 trucks. They brought a 1000 gallon tank with a pump on it. Nice wood. Like the smell of red oak. Have a great day be safe.

Mike, I think if you go inside the gas station, they can over ride the limit and run your card once for the transaction. I think it only limits you at the pump.
You are right about that. It is good to know how much money it will take to fill your tank before you start pumping, otherwise they will want to hold on to your credit card while you pump. That's not a good thing because anything can happen to your card while it is not in your possession. They can even hand it back to the wrong person.
Ever think about get articulated wheel loader for kubota ? Like 520 or 530 articulated wheel loader from kubota

to keep from messy grease getting on everything, I use Dawn liquid detergent for lube on the ball....works great and doesn't stain clothes.............
The Wallenstein skidding winch is going to get a workout pulling up those big white oak trees from that valley. If you happen to have a truck stop around you (Loves, Pilot, etc) many of those have off road diesel. They also should not have the same issues with credit card limits for purchasing fuel.

Two things..... here in KC,MO, on road dsl just hit $5.19/gal, so I'd hate to see your prices for that. I have the same issue fueling my Peterbilt (having to use multiple cc to get it done). And second, before you get the bigger tank, call around to the different commercial fuelers in your area and find out what their minimum amount of fuel purchased is in order to get free delivery. Then make sure your new tank is big enough to take advantage of that and go that route. That's what I'm in the process of doing now. My local fueler will deliver for free as long as you buy at least 300 gallons total, so I ordered a 1000 gal for my Pete and a 300 for off road for my skidsteer. Then they come out to refill me whenever I call and I can pay the entire bill on 1 cc charge and no more waiting in line at the truck stop and then having to go inside and wait in line again for a receipt because the pumps always seem to be out of paper.
Best thing you could do is get a bulk tank say 300 gallons or more and find a local bulk fuel supplier! It'll end all the headaches!
Hi Mike, I love to watch you "working"??. C'mon now, from one guy to another you haven't "worked" a day since you started this project and I am jealous. Never working day in your life and I'm pretty sure that goes for what you're doing right now!!! With all that said I had two small suggestions for when you're cutting longer logs into and you probably already know them but I'll say it anyhow. One I'm surprised you don't use a plastic wedge more often when you're bucking up logs? And two I used to cut up logs when I was buying them for a living and a lot of times if I knew they were going to come down and pinch on the bottom I would start my cut by boring in on the top of about three or four inches down from the outside take it all the way through and then come back and finish my cut on top. I very seldom had my chainsaw get pinched in the log. There again I'm sure you know all this stuff it's just I don't see you doing it that way and thought I'd pass along a little useless knowledge to you. You are loving the dream life my friend. You're doing what you love, you have a gorgeous wife and she seems to enjoy doing what she loves and the kids are healthy now with Eva being well again. Keep up the good work keep sharing your videos cuz I look forward to them everyday or so. Have yourself a real nice Sunday because that's when I'm looking at your video today here in Ohio. Ron

Mike I was thinking a fuel delivery may be the answer to your problem, you could buy a large tank and have home delivery unless your state wouldn’t allow that. That way your 100 gallon transportable tank could be the transport tank if you would like.
