I don't think it's a good solution because the steering arm and steering box are not designed for such a force direction, so the steering box could be damaged.
@@maksimiljanb If you look at the size of the drop arm, the spindle of the steering box and its bearings I can assure you there'll be no damage unless you use an insane amount of force. My local LR workshop uses this method. Professional structural / mechanical engineer here.
Noup, i didn't because the upper part was is in very good condition. And one important hint ...don't use agresive grease with rubber sleeve. Sorry for the late answer.

An easier way to compress the spring is to use a bottle jack to push up from below. If the ram is too large use a small socket as an adapter.

Hey mate! I’ve replaced the drop arm on my defender but the bolt on the new ball joint has snapped while I was driving! Any ideas what I did wrong?
Maybe you have overtighting, to much torque on wrench, or is problem in the material construction.
