I'm loving all the input on this video about working with CNAs and PCTs. I'll definitely be taking your advice, because at the end of the day, I am the nurse, and I set the tone for the shift and your girl is TIRED...
One reason they don’t tell you is because they do not have to be CNAs! Second if I’m working you working too! We are a team! I’m blessed to have techs that make me look good!
I can relate to the things you are is discussing regarding ancillary staff. Hold them accountable otherwise they will have you do all the work. Created a check list for them. I find they come to work, and they socialize more. Write an incident report of them. Set the tone and don't worry who likes you. Patients come first. CNA's need to be called on their poor behavior, and they need to be hold accountable. They are not proactive, the check list will help, and they must check all the task they need to accomplish for the day. Otherwise, nurses will get burn out. Pay attention to the s/s burnout and take care of yourselves. I'm from California and it's happening here. Don't let them know you are a proactive with patient care because they will not help you. Stay strong and play the game. I will pray for you to stay safe. 🙏
I just said the same thing basically. They gotta give clear instructions and expectations to the techs and if they can’t follow it, write them up report them whatever it takes.
I hear you. These CNA's, not all are running amuck. They get an attitude when you tell them to do their job. They are quick to say that the nurses don't help. I realize they say this when they don't want to do anything. They want go get their coworker(CNA) to help them. They see the nurse is busy but you come and get the nurse to help when the other CNA is sitting there. I am in LTC it is really going down. NO staff and CNA's don't work anymore. The nurse is blamed for everything. It's like we have to be everywhere and doing everything all night not even getting a chance to take a lunch or use the bathroom. Need to find a job in outpatient care a clinic doctor's office. I am just almost over bedside. It is too much wear and tear on the body. I am praying for Peace in (mind, body and spirit). Take care. I hope and pray we all get what we want in order for healthcare in all genres to stay intact. If this make sense.
The reason the techs aren’t doing anything is because you and other nurses are doing their work for them. I understand we nurses are responsible at the end of the day but that doesn’t mean they are without accountability as well. They were hired to do a job and if they aren’t doing it they should be reported. If it continues, they should get terminated. Nurses have to move away from this “well it’s all on me” attitude. Nurses gotta get back to how nursing use to be when there were consequences if UAP’s didn’t do their jobs. It is up to us to TELL THEM what we want or needs to be done, reported etc.. This tech is running over you all because she knows you all will do her work and not say anything.
FACTSSS. I'm starting to get upset with nurses at this point because DELEGATION is in OUR scope of practice. Nurse's are doing the patients a disservice and THAT'S who this is really about. It's not safe practice period. Nurses running around doing the tech's work and forgetting and half doing their own work thoroughly 🙄
It's management. I worked at a facility where lazy techs were reported all the time and nothing was done about it. The manager didn't want to have a high turnover rate on the unit bc she had faced backlash from higher ups after dismissing night shift techs in domino effect.
Also, I had the same thing happen to me just this past week on a travel assignment with a tech not reporting bad vitals to me. If I report the tech, I may be in jeopardy of losing my contract.
@@blackheartcardigan At the beginning of EVERY shift travel or not find the tech You will be working with introduce yourself, and run down ALL of your expectations Right after You get report. And if you don't want to engage verbally make a template and Everytime You go to work give a copy to the tech . Also let them know your wrap up time for the shift which is when You expect a report from them including I&Os, etc. And let them know to report ALL changes in patient condition, including abnormal vital signs (immediately ),and water passed at this time, diabetic snacks passed timely, anyone not eating/using the restroom. They know better It's called VITAL signs for a reason.
I think we need to create a group of nurses and aides, become a team and work as team at a hospital, nursing home or something. I would love to work with Nurses that actually care and help out time to time. I became a med tech bc I’m tired of how nursing homes treat cnas like dirt on the bottom of a shoe. Now, trust, I’ve dealt with my fair share of poor cnas and nurses. That’s why we need a group or something to weed out the bad nurses and cnas, then we should work together. That’s way we create our own work environment and possibly income as well. I feel like agency could’ve gotten everyone on the same page, they just are just there for the money and not the patients well being.
When it comes 2 daisy awards/pins & narcotic waste, they r 2 different things n respect 2 accolades. Pharmacy can write u up n many places 4 missing narcs, improper management, or even wrong doses given 2 a patient. Ex. Giving a pt 1mg of Dilaudid 4 a pain score of 7/10 when that 1mg is ordered for pain 4-6. This is y some facilities r going hard about nurses getting proper pain management orders from the Dr. If they r riding her, that means she did something more than once. Pharmacy may have chose 2 report her. Pharmacy can report ur med eras 2 the state as well. There's nothing ur manager can do, even if u have 100 daisies.
Did you train the Tech on what is to be reported to the nurse? It sounds like the tech needs to be trained on protocol for reporting abnormal issues. Please stop crying about passing water to your patients. Do better. Just ask her to help you pass the water. The nurses are making twice the amount in pay, you should do more. Of a Tech is from LTC they don't know how to do blood drawing or bladder scans like at a hospital. I understand the need for training and orientation. This is health care not McDonald's.
@@patturner2602 when techs apply for the job and go through orientation they receive training and should make known what they don't know. Its a courtesy for a nurse to retrain a tech without pay. Moreover the tech is to make sure water/hydration is present for patients. For a nurse to have to stop and do that holds up the medication pass among other important things that techs can't help them with.
A nurse gets paid more because of their education & responsibilities. They get paid bc they r held 2 a higher level of accountability. If ur trying 2 compares tasks 2 critical thinking, u got the game all wrong. Any CNA or Tech who feels like u do should go 2 school, become a nurse, then come back & tell me if u still feel the same. 10/10 CNAs & Techs that I've come across who became nurses c things a lot different now that they r nurses. 1 thing I learned quick is that a nurse can do everything a CNA/Tech can do...not vice versa. Both nurses & CNAs r equally important n healthcare, just 2 different responsibilities.
