  • Some new pallet breaking tools for the workshop, Roughneck pallet buster, T wrecking bar and the Estwing I-Beam prybar. I needed some decent denailers and FFX tools kindly sent these over. Its a tool combination thats ideal for breaking down pallets for woodworking projects from the initial breakdown to nail removal. The only thing you might also need is a good hammer for when theyre being really stubborn.

    The Roughneck ROU64644 pallet buster seems decent and performed just as well if not slightly better than my existing one. The prongs are long and are angled so that you can grab at the boards from a variety of positions. Pulled apart about 8 in an hour or so.

    Roughneck ROU64486 Wrecking Bar T Type 36in seems to be well made and solid. The double end is a great idea, saved having to bend over and i got some good leverage using that. You can actually use it as a board puller in its own right and i did that a couple of times. And the prongs are fairly sharp out of the box, either watch your hands or accidentally gouging into the timber.

    Estwing ESTPB18 18in I-Beam Construction Pry Bar, good and light and will get a lot of use as a nail puller. As an acutal bar for prying wood apart its not long enough and the angled head gets in the way.

    A nice bit of kit Bongo. My dental hygienist has something similar . She got off easy at Nuremberg
    I remember being in Seattle at a meeting. I saw a pallet on the sidewalk. I put my foot on it to tie my shoe lace. I looked at the wood and noticed it was mahogany . Pallets are wonderful things

      My dentist just has big mole grips :( his assistant was hanging off my head as he was yanking with the pliers... extractions.... and yes, one of these pallets was beech. 3 last week were cherry.

    I love using pallets or other "old" wood and giving it a new purpose.

      Its got to be a good thing, all the ones i get are to be dumped in landfill if not picked up. One of the pallets i was dismantling was all mostly beech as well. wonderful dry timber thats also been heat treated.

    I’ve been taking a Dremel type tool and cutting the nails at about. I did share two and then just turning the board over and popping them out with a good claw hammer seems to be the easiest. Since I don’t have one of those air guns that you could shoot the nails out with for us old guys, we don’t want to do all that, bending…..

    Great tools and workt well too. When I toke of the wood on one side on the pallet I turn it around and smash with a hamer on the blocks to come of. Works great. 🙂👍🏼👍🏼

    Hi i built a full shed out of pallets and sheets over the top i found by soaking the pallets a day before makes it a lot easier and you got a lot less braking to the planks. Hope this helps keep the videos coming 😊

      Yes, thanks, Ive noticed that with pallets i get that have been rained on for a while. One thing im struggling with though is dry space for them to then dry out slowly without splitting, twisting or cupping. Could do with more shed space or to stop hoarding on the wood :)

    I think it's defo horses for courses Bongo. Great gear and review. I do have an old home made pallet buster, i live on a 42 acre orchard mate, so plenty of pallets and fruit bins to play with. lol. Keep them coming mate. Good stuff. Cheers Moose.

    I’ve got one of those pallet busters and it’s the mutts nuts.
    Mines a bit more basic than yours but it still does the job well enough. The only problem I find is the prongs aren’t flat so they can brake the edge of the pallet slat which leads to splitting.
    Sharpeys workshop built his own which looks the business.

    Great review Bongo! I like how you described it near the beginning (if I heard right), "it's meaty". Sounds solid. It never ceases to amaze me what your eye sees before you make something... dogs & fish ;) can't wait to see what you create.

      thepoultrypeople yes mate ripped down 6 full plank pallets the ones without the gaps, I carefully eased off one plank then used the tool for the rest and it worked fine, I’ll be able to carry with me when I’m pallet hunting so I can dismantle on the roadside as I can’t fit a whole pallet in my golf estate

    Hey bongo I’ve had the pallet buster for over a year now and your handle looks different to mine. I wonder if they’ve updated it as I found it didn’t always sit nicely under the boards as some pallets are too wide for it to sit comfortably on but I took mine down to my local blacksmiths and for a fiver he widened the prongs by an inch which made it much more effective. Can’t wait to meet you and all the other makers and wwuk guys at makers.

    • @thepoultrypeople
      @thepoultrypeople  6 років тому

      Maybe they did, in the middle of the prongs on yours does it have a V notch for taking out nails? I did notice that on one pallet and it was a decent one the prongs werent wide enough, did your blacksmith heat and reforge them then? Are you going for the weekend?

    • @DaveGDesigns
      @DaveGDesigns 6 років тому

      thepoultrypeople mate, mine doesn’t have the v groove so I assume it’s an older version of the tool as my handle is just black as well. The blacksmith just heated it enough to widen it but couldn’t get much more than an inch although that’s all it needed at first I thought it was pretty disappointing but after I got that done it works like a charm. If you get both prongs under it the pieces come off nicely but if you can only get one under I found it kept splitting them.

      thepoultrypeople I forgot to say yes I’ve got weekend tickets so I’ll definitely come and see you I assume you’ll be on the wwuk stand?

    • @thepoultrypeople
      @thepoultrypeople  6 років тому +1

      Yes, still going strong and heating the workshop up. Still gathering bits for propper mass heater versions though.

    Them would be awesome for taking Machinery pallets apart. I don't waste my time on the flimsy pallets used to ship groceries because they are garbage.
