- Sri Lankan fish curry or Meen Kulambu in the local language is one of the tastiest and lip-smacking seafood dishes in Sri Lanka.
Usually, this curry is prepared from coconut oil, a lot of spices, and coconut milk. For making this curry, I have used mackerel slices, It’s up to you to choose the fish of your choice. Generally in Srilanka, they use Goraka as a souring agent, But you can substitute it for Tamarind if you don’t find it around. At first, the fish is marinated with salt and turmeric. Then the curry is prepared by cooking Onion, Tomato, and spices along with Coconut milk until it turns thick. Then the marinated fish is cooked along with the rich curry. It tastes really good when served with hot steaming rice.

I’m in USA and made this for a foreign friend who was suffering from Corona. He really loved it and said only srilankan food seems to be tasty even when he has Corona! This curry is full of taste. Glad I found this recipe. ❤️

It looks amazing! The tamarind paste is the game changer I'm sure. One of the best Sri Lankan curries I ever tasted was in Hikkaduwa and it was hard fried Kingfish with curry sauce....it was exceptional. This dish however is more about a softer fish. Sri Lanka has a truly exceptional cooking expertise.
I made this! It's deliciously light and packed with clean layers of flavour. Thumbs up! I can now tell the difference between Sri Lankan fish curry method and taste and other South Indian versions.
Thank you so much. Glad you liked it.
I am from Nepal
And my husband to be from Sri Lanka
I hope I can make this and serve to my In-laws 😊❤
🎉
Oh! They would love it 😀 All the best. Let us know how it turns out. By the way, Congratulations 🍾
This recipe is very similar to Bengali fish curry! Only difference we don't add tamarind rest ingredients are the same 🙂Will surely try the way u did it 😍
Interesting. Let us know how it turns out.
I guess, bengalis fry the fish before hand and do not ad coconut milk.

Looks yummy. What was the weight of the fish and how long did you cook it. Also was the tamarind paste ready made (tamarind paste sold in boxes). Please advise
Sorry, we didn't measurement the weight of the fish and we used ready made tamarind paste for this recipe.

I'd like a crack at making this soon. It looks so easy to make and I bet it is superb eating. Only problem for me is that mackerel of any sort is out of season where I live at the moment. What else can I use as a substitute red meat fish? I have heard of using Cobia, King Fish, Swordfish too, but these are also scarce. Mahi Mahi? What about using a white meat fish instead? If so, what could you recommend and would I need to add or remove any of the other ingredients? Thanks :)
Hi Toney. Thanks for your comment. You can definitely use white meat fish but to be frank we haven't tried using them. Even Pomfret fish will go well with this recipe. We would recommend to use the same recipe with all the ingredients.
Looks yummy will definitely try thanks
Made it❤
We hope you liked it
Thank you for this!
Great
Grate colour combination
Thank you
Super maa 👍 Stay connected
Thank you....Will definitely try it.God bless

Yeah it sure tastes really good. You must try it with hot steamed rice👌
Can I use the Mackerel Tin Salmon for this curry ?
Apologies, Never used that. So, Not sure how that's gonna turnout.
Looks yummy 👏
Very good
You don’t use or add roasted curry powder?
Do check out our Sri Lankan Black chicken curry and jack fruit curry. We have used roasted curry powder in those recipes.
In this recipe we haven’t used any curry powders.
What if I need to prepare it for a family of six? Do I double the ingredients?
Hi JA, Refer this link for 6 servings: satyamskitchen.com/recipe/sri-lankan-fish-curry/?servings=6
@@satyamskitchen WoW!! Thank you so much!! Will try it and let you know how it turned out. 👍

We have used Spanish mackerel here. You can use any fish of your choice
O man, thats too many spices.
Fish cooking time?
Hi, It depends on the type of fish, the thickness of your slice. Fish usually cooks fast.
@@satyamskitchen ok sis some saying 2 min some saying 4 min..for fish how much time? How much time prawn.i Saravanan from madurai tamilnadu
Traduzione in italiano?
Sorry, I have never heard of that
Excused me this is not srilankan style fish curry this is indian style
May I know why its not a sri lankan style fish curry? It would be really helpful for others
@@satyamskitchen actually the thing is usually for the srilankan curry nobody adding fennel seeds and cummin seeds and also musterd seeds also the way is totally different to prepare
Normaly we use coconut milk fish curry
Any type of fishes 500g
Garlic
Ginget optional
Curry leves
Panden leves
Fenugreek seeds
Turmeric powder
Smal ammunt of chile powder
Garcinia two peices like
Pepper more
Salt
And thick coconut milk and light coconut milk
If you like you can add tomatos
And green chilies
No this is sri lankan dish some part cook each style. specially where use coconut milk that is sri lankan dish becouse. Indians cooking with curd but sri lankan only cooked from history with coconut milk. Thats why this is sri lankan recipe
Srilankan curry with Indian spices, very tasty🤣
