      I'd say a lot of players expect the wrong things or too much from it (like it's really not a game for impatient people...)
      I spent about 170 hours in it (tho not actively playing all of it, I ofttimes let the game run in background and do something else and then jump back into it instantaneously).
      And I'd wholeheartedly say it's gonna be many, many more. I love this game, because it just feels so good. Yeah, it is boring in the aspect that you will always be doing the same things. And you will quickly feel like you're grinding towards better equipment or ships. (If you're anything like me using one of the many online website tools to optimize your gameplay).
      But fuck, it just feels so great.
      Flying around feels fantastic and (for me) never gets old. The immersion is incredible, even when playing normally.
      And you can crank that up even more (if you've got the money - I don't) with VR and VoiceAttack (third party program, lets you use voice commands).
      And yes, it looks awesome. Fucking awesome. And scientifically pretty much accurate.
      The feeling when a huge, wonderful looking star fills out your complete screen is amazing.
      And I still get the tingles when I fly to a station (which is gliding quite a while through empty space, since they nailed accurate distances between bodies down - which means LOOOOOOONG ways between star and planets...) and see the incredible scales that are present out there...

      I'm have fun playing this game. I'm still learning how to do some of the quests which are either super easy or super hard. Some are super easy and net you tons of credits. I'm already on my 3 ship (Diamondback Scout). This game is way better than No Man's Sky but I wish you could land on all the planets. I haven't started trying to mine or bounty hunts or even the black market. There's so much to do but it doesn't feel overwhelming. The learning curve is kinda steep but I appreciate figuring the game out more that way then have everything handed out to you. I guess I would know more if I did all the training missions.

    • @ender1260
      @ender1260 7 років тому +6

      The problem is this - the game is incredibly difficult, and set up like an MMO with no real "dungeons" or quests beyond what you can get from the start. So you'll get people who are frustrated early on with a HUGE learning curve and a control scheme that takes up your whole keyboard, and people who have 1000+ hours in the game that have run out of things to do. It's a niche game. It's an incredible game, I absolutely love it, but if you don't fit the niche market you probably won't enjoy it.

    • @subby280
      @subby280 7 років тому +2

      I've been playing it and it is tough to learn how to do all the quests. I have a decent ship (i think) and keep getting destroyed by other ships. 90% of the ships I battle are Common or better. I'm still ranked harmless. Every once in a while I'll get a "destroy the sentries" quest that is easy because it's not guarded by other ships and get a good reward. It's either the quests are worth 100k in credit or 8,000 it seems. I've got 38+ hours in an still don't know how to do these quests and get frustrated. Just when I think I got it, the game says, "nope" and I die a lot.

    • @mooviies

      Richard Neville No because he isn't going at the speed of light. If you read the manuel they say that the way the space ships travel is by binding the space around them, a bit like the alcubierre drive. So it is effectively the space moving and not the ship itself. The ship itself isn't moving fast and is far away from the speed of light. So even if the end result shows that he's journey was shorter then it would take the light the relativistic effect that you are talking about isn't taking place. And what's nice is that it doesn't even break the current laws of physics. It does suppose though that they have access to negative mass which we don't have right now. But nothing says that it is impossible to create. It is unlikely but the researchers always go beyond what we think is possible :)

    • @richardneville4255
      @richardneville4255 9 років тому +4

      mooviies Im no science / physics person. I'd watched Interstellar a few nights before and it reminded me of that movie - I also remember one of Stephen Hawkins Universe documentaries saying the same thing, If you were to fly arounda black hole, his theory is that your relative time runs slower compared to time back on Earth, therfore when you arrived back, time's moved on a lot and your still the same age. Edit: Actually, yeah I think what your saying is correct, I think were just talking about two different theorys.

    • @Jezath
      @Jezath 9 років тому +1

      Richard Neville yeah that isent theory either they have to allow for ther dffewrence in time between sdattelites and the surface of eareth as the mass is making us time travel, although very minutely

    • @Rygads
      @Rygads 9 років тому +26

      mooviies You don't have to travel at the speed of light for time to distort when you are on the edge of the event horizon of a black hole. They say that a 10 year voyage around the EH will take 20 years on Earth because the gravity has warped space-time so much.

      Liam Ash what skmartian said. The cluster of stars that seem to be 'sucked in' is the same cluster that you can see in the very beginning of the video on the left side in the background. the background just wraps arround the edges of the black hole, it is an illsuion basically. the stars are actually more than 150+ light years away while im sitting (more or less) directly in front of the black hole..

      Oh, I figured this out months ago. Back then I had an Eagle with the default orange HUD. Now I own a combat Python and two ASP Explorers (one for smuggling and one for exploring) all with a blue and red HUD.

      @@CrimsonGamer99 i just checked this video again for the location of this gorgeous black hole for my oncoming event, unfortunately xbox only, and had to check the comments, the least i expected was some other youtuber i know about 😁
      It's good to see you still having fun with this game after these years.

    What happens in this game if you fly directly in? Or doesn't it let you get any closer than you did?

    Technically you missnamed this video a bit. The event horizon of a black hole is only visible from within the hole itself, not the outside. Still stunning video capture though!

    Man he's 25k from a black hole... I wonder what the time dilation there would be like. You could probably calculate it from the size of the einstein lens, but man, he would warp out YEARS in the future. (In real life)

      +Hijiku Brynjar Have you ever seen the movie Interstellar? I know it's a movie but it gets across the possible advantages of understanding black holes better than "they eat things". But who knows when, if ever, we'd have the technology needed

      +Hijiku Brynjar you get credits for scanning any astronommical body in the game.
      the more exotic the body the more credits.
      and they dont come much more exotic than a black hole.

    The event horizon isn't a problem for these space ships... They can go thousands of times faster than light!

    • @hans-joachimbierwirth4727
      @hans-joachimbierwirth4727 6 років тому

      Nah, they can go 2,000 times the speed of light but they are slowing down brutally near stellar bodies. They can't even fly by moons without slowing down to 200 km/s.

    If you were cruising that close to the black hole - the time distortion would be intense, like Andromeda Rommie - lost for hundreds of Earth years...

      +AstroW | Galaktisches Gaming This game is nothing compared to Subnautica. One moment you are swimming without a care in the evening sun, the next moment, the sun went down and you have 300m of pitch-black water beneath you as you desperately try to swim away from the single most horrifying noise you have heard in your entire life.
      And then you are eaten.

      AstroW | Galaktisches Gaming Yeah, you just have to build a shallow, solar-powered base, get a Seamoth, and build a charging room for it. After that you are golden. Unless you have already done this. In that case, GOOD JOB! You are not a noob!

    • @Mas___SD
      @Mas___SD 8 років тому +1

      +Paulo Lameiras I wouldn't - generally speaking any game is better when played on a capable PC - especially a simulator as vast and dynamic as Elite Dangerous. There isn't even enough buttons on a PS4 controller to scratch the surface of controlling one of these ships. However, if you absolutely must resort to console, expect it to compete with the "No Man's Sky" release this summer.

      I know right. I started the series with Frontier Elite 2, on my Amiga 500. Damn complex game, especialy for a kid :P
      That said, i'm not a PC gamer anymore, and Elite Dangerous is already on Xbox One (the reviews are positive)! I'm hyped for the PS4 version!
