I'd say a lot of players expect the wrong things or too much from it (like it's really not a game for impatient people...) I spent about 170 hours in it (tho not actively playing all of it, I ofttimes let the game run in background and do something else and then jump back into it instantaneously). And I'd wholeheartedly say it's gonna be many, many more. I love this game, because it just feels so good. Yeah, it is boring in the aspect that you will always be doing the same things. And you will quickly feel like you're grinding towards better equipment or ships. (If you're anything like me using one of the many online website tools to optimize your gameplay). But fuck, it just feels so great. Flying around feels fantastic and (for me) never gets old. The immersion is incredible, even when playing normally. And you can crank that up even more (if you've got the money - I don't) with VR and VoiceAttack (third party program, lets you use voice commands). And yes, it looks awesome. Fucking awesome. And scientifically pretty much accurate. The feeling when a huge, wonderful looking star fills out your complete screen is amazing. And I still get the tingles when I fly to a station (which is gliding quite a while through empty space, since they nailed accurate distances between bodies down - which means LOOOOOOONG ways between star and planets...) and see the incredible scales that are present out there...
I'm have fun playing this game. I'm still learning how to do some of the quests which are either super easy or super hard. Some are super easy and net you tons of credits. I'm already on my 3 ship (Diamondback Scout). This game is way better than No Man's Sky but I wish you could land on all the planets. I haven't started trying to mine or bounty hunts or even the black market. There's so much to do but it doesn't feel overwhelming. The learning curve is kinda steep but I appreciate figuring the game out more that way then have everything handed out to you. I guess I would know more if I did all the training missions.
The problem is this - the game is incredibly difficult, and set up like an MMO with no real "dungeons" or quests beyond what you can get from the start. So you'll get people who are frustrated early on with a HUGE learning curve and a control scheme that takes up your whole keyboard, and people who have 1000+ hours in the game that have run out of things to do. It's a niche game. It's an incredible game, I absolutely love it, but if you don't fit the niche market you probably won't enjoy it.
I've been playing it and it is tough to learn how to do all the quests. I have a decent ship (i think) and keep getting destroyed by other ships. 90% of the ships I battle are Common or better. I'm still ranked harmless. Every once in a while I'll get a "destroy the sentries" quest that is easy because it's not guarded by other ships and get a good reward. It's either the quests are worth 100k in credit or 8,000 it seems. I've got 38+ hours in an still don't know how to do these quests and get frustrated. Just when I think I got it, the game says, "nope" and I die a lot.
Richard Neville No because he isn't going at the speed of light. If you read the manuel they say that the way the space ships travel is by binding the space around them, a bit like the alcubierre drive. So it is effectively the space moving and not the ship itself. The ship itself isn't moving fast and is far away from the speed of light. So even if the end result shows that he's journey was shorter then it would take the light the relativistic effect that you are talking about isn't taking place. And what's nice is that it doesn't even break the current laws of physics. It does suppose though that they have access to negative mass which we don't have right now. But nothing says that it is impossible to create. It is unlikely but the researchers always go beyond what we think is possible :)
mooviies Im no science / physics person. I'd watched Interstellar a few nights before and it reminded me of that movie - I also remember one of Stephen Hawkins Universe documentaries saying the same thing, If you were to fly arounda black hole, his theory is that your relative time runs slower compared to time back on Earth, therfore when you arrived back, time's moved on a lot and your still the same age. Edit: Actually, yeah I think what your saying is correct, I think were just talking about two different theorys.
Richard Neville yeah that isent theory either they have to allow for ther dffewrence in time between sdattelites and the surface of eareth as the mass is making us time travel, although very minutely
mooviies You don't have to travel at the speed of light for time to distort when you are on the edge of the event horizon of a black hole. They say that a 10 year voyage around the EH will take 20 years on Earth because the gravity has warped space-time so much.
That is amazing how they modeled the bending of light and space. How everything just looked suspended in time as the vast amount of gravity literally stops time. Amazing effects.
+The Assyrian Sounds, from outside of your ship, are simulated. They're not the actual sounds, that's why when your canopy breaks, most of the sound is either extremely quiet, or non-existent.

Liam Ash what skmartian said. The cluster of stars that seem to be 'sucked in' is the same cluster that you can see in the very beginning of the video on the left side in the background. the background just wraps arround the edges of the black hole, it is an illsuion basically. the stars are actually more than 150+ light years away while im sitting (more or less) directly in front of the black hole..
The first proper radio telescope images of SagA* and another SMBH are being processed right now, and we should have them in viewable form in a year or two. I wonder if Frontier will incorporate that scientifically verified appearance for black holes into the game.
I like the credits I get from black holes but never in a million years would I consider getting this close to one. Just being within scan distance is enough for me to shit my pants thank you very much
Just wondering... did you try to do a surface scan or something from the event horizon -- I'm just wondering if...IF... something could be picked up; you never know.
