I remember like 14 years ago (or so) I got into them like straight from Cannibal Corpse and my head just exploded. I was obsessed with Demilich for like 2 month and then, mysteriously, I kinda forgot about them until like 3 years ago and they instantly put a smile on my face. Btw.: look up the wikipedia page of this band to clearify some song titles.
I was literally about to request this! Demilich is so underappreciated, Antti Boman has amazing riffs and his vocals sound like they are from the pits of hell(Which is a good thing)
Necrotic Nick- This one has been on the list for awhile. We were going to do this one before we left to go to Maryland Deathfest last year but we didn't have time to do it. I've only been a fan for a few years but holy shit is this album some next level death metal.
I remember when I was a otr truck driver I had a 10 hour drive into our company yard, the last 2 hours of my drive I listened to the album from start to finish and it was one of those albums that just takes your brain to another place.
This is one of those albums I’ve meant to check out forever but never did. When I saw that you were going to retro review it, it motivated me to check it out. What a crazy album. Wasn’t sure about the gurgling vocals at first, but realized that I like Will Smith from Artificial Brain and Afterbirth. With that in mind I grew to appreciate these vocals. Looking forward to giving this more spins. Thanks Thralls!
I always said this album sounded like if your spaceship crash landed and you were left to wander some unknown planet only to come across an alien jazz club lol. Sick album
Man, its a shame I had to miss the live chat on this one! Only discovered it a few years ago but has since become one of my favorite albums from this era, truly a gem of an album!
Necrotic Nick- The discussion was pretty good for this one and it drew out some new faces in the chat. This album is just it's own strange thing and I love. I want to say I've only been into them for about the last 4 or 5 years but Nespithe still blows me away every time I jam it.
I saw Nick do his response to the bands with flawless discographies video and the last band he featured on the list was a band that he and Jammin Jon have been talking about doing a retro review of. That band is Nasum. Nasum released 4 studio albums. Sadly, only two months after the fourth album was released, on December 26th 2004, Mieszko Talarczyk, the frontman of the band, having celebrated his birthday three days prior, was on holiday in Thailand when that *dreadful tsunami* hit and poor Mieszko was swept away and drowned. Mieszko was only 30 years old. Also, another band I want to see a retro review of is Human Waste Project with their lone full-length, E-Lux.
Necrotic Nick- Now that we're getting into more new releases dropping we might be slowing down on the retro stuff we'll probably squeeze in a few more this year at least. I'm glad you're finding some killer stuff, bro!
Necrotic Nick- I only have Nucleus's second album but that does have some Demilich-ish stuff on it as well. I'm going to have to hunt down that debut though.
@@thrallsofmetal The second one had the vibe as well, but when that one came out, I felt it was less than the first. It's been a while since I've listened to either, honestly. Need to revisit both! Great band. They have a couple more tracks on the second 4 Doors to Death Comp as well.
This became my favorite death metal record of all times. Sound like if Piece of Time Atheist meets Incantation and played the riffs backward. Even the songs are too catchy for what a really dark, technical and twisted album like this could be.
Necrotic Nick- It's up there for me. There really isn't anything quite like it and for as mind-boggling as the songs are they found a way to make them catchy as hell. This was a lot of fun to go over... outside of saying the ridiculous song titles lol.
Such beautifully hideous music -- I am so glad I came across this review, as it was my introduction to the band. Thanks for posting! I imagine the vocals being delivered by an actual demilich.
Awesome stuff guys. I've been on the fence about picking this up, as a few of the other UK youtubers have been praising it last year. After this review, I've been straight onto Amazon, and pulled the trigger ( was only £19 on vinyl, bargain). Cheers 🍻 🤘
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I wasn't sure what to make of this album at first but I was really draw in by how unique it sounded and how well put together it was for what they were doing. I was blow away and after seeing them put on a killer show at MDF last year they've become a favorite of mine in terms of underground death metal acts. I'm glad we tipped you over the edge and you decided to snag a copy of this, man! I actually order the 20th Adversary of Emptiness comp after doing the review so I got the itch as well lol. Cheers, man!
This album is so damn good! It’s like you’re in the mudpits of hell and demonic pig sorcerers are talking to you. Finland always pulls through with the unique shit! Been trying to snag an original copy for years.
Necrotic Nick- There really is nothing quite like this album. I only got to see them there but I didn't get a chance to meet them or get a shirt. Those lines were insanely long in the lot and I was trying to catch every band I could.
Great stuff! I'll still remember 13 years ago when i thought i already familliar with death metal not till i discovered this album and holy shit one of the suprising experience !This band is awesome alongside with demigod from finland .Lot of death metal gem over there for the 90,s period
Necrotic Nick- Agreed! I got kinda the same thing when I got into this album except it was specifically for tech death since that's loosely what I heard Demilich was. I was thinking it was going to be like later Death and Necrophagist and it was beyond that. Completely melted my brain and I kept coming back for more. This is pretty much genius in my book.
Necrotic Nick- Definitely one of the strangest but incredibly engaging listens in death metal overall. It's truly it's own thing and I love it for that.
I actually didn’t get into this album at first but it grew on me after multiple listens. I’m glad this album is on Spotify. Definitely one of the more strange but unique sounding technical death metal. Those song titles are ridiculous lmao. Now I know where Cenotaph got the idea for ridiculously long song titles on puked genital purulency. Mortal Decay - Forensic comes to mind when I hear this album. They both got froggy vocals, unique songwriting, and technical play, granted Mortal Decay is more on the Brutal/Tech death metal tip.
Necrotic Nick- Oddly enough, this was one I was into really quickly. I didn't fully understand it (kinda still don't) but I was intrigued and I wanted to jam them more. It really is it's own thing and while I hear their influence in other bands it's never as spot on as the original. Dude, these are some of the strangest song titles ever. I know of Mortal Decay but I don't know if I've ever sat down and jammed them. I may have to check them out.
@@thrallsofmetal definitely check them out. They use unique elements in there song writing that no band does today. Their album Forensic would be a great start since that’s how I was introduced to them lol
Necrotic Nick- One of the most unique and awesome death metal albums ever in my opinion. Those vocals are still some of the most insane lows I've heard to this day.
Demilich is a fucking masterclass in brain meltingly good metal. I remember getting into them after I had dipped my toes in to the realm of Immolation and Gorguts, that was probably in the late 90’s maybe early 2000’s. Nespithe blew my mind then and it still blows my mind these days as well. Also here’s a question for you guys in relation to the outro… why not both?
Necrotic Nick- I got into them just hearing people talk about them so I snagged the reissue of Nespithe and I still don't think my brain was ready for that album. It's really unlike anything in death metal still. I mean... you could watch both at the same time but that's some serious multitasking lol.
if you want something even crazier, listen to disintegrating thought patterns by dripping. 90's slam mixed with avant-garde psychedelic. it's one of the craziest death metal albums out there.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Comparisons to this band are tough so I went with a band that really have their own sound and also don't give much of a shit about conventional song structure as well. Hell, I'd love to see Melvins and Demilich on a tour package maybe with Voivod. That's a "take my money" type of situation there lol.
Hey Thralls, I'm not sure if y'all have heard them before, but I recently found a newer Thrash Metal band called Critical Defiance via their 2022 album "No Life Forms". It rips and is definitely something I think you guys would enjoy, as not only is it heavy, thrashy goodness, it's also rather short in length running for about 30 minutes (roughly). Doesn't overstay it's welcome while giving you just enough to crave a little more! Would love to hear your thoughts in an album review!
Necrotic Nick- I don't think I've heard of that band. I know of a Condition Critical but that's definitely a different band. I'll keep an eye out for it and if I see around I may just snag it and cover it in a collection update.
Here’s a retro review request: Either one of first 2 SpineShank albums. And a new review could be the new Destrage album. Also, Drowning Pool put out out a new album last year that no one mentioned.
Necrotic Nick- If we did Spineshank we'd do them all and since they only have 4 I believe. We generally save Retro Review stuff for bands with 4 or less releases. I totally missed that Destrage album so I may have to hunt that one down. Those dudes are just plain fun to list to. Not really a fan of anything Drowning Pool has done outside of some stuff on Sinner to be honest and the recent stuff I've heard hasn't been very good in my opinion.
awesome review i have listened to demilich nespithe since i was 10 i first listened to it 13 years ago back in 2010 in my first school catholic school in norwich england in front of my first female friends lol great album from what i remember got me into the sound of blood incantation as well
Still remember the first time I listened to this band. The second it started, I was hooked. The music is so good. Take or leave the vocals... luckily, they don't get in the way for me. This album is just groovy and disgusting. We deserve another album from these guys lol
In a list of 10 Essential Death Metal Classics, if you had to narrow it right down, Nespithe would have to be on it, I reckon. In fact, that might make a fun series of shows: all the Thrallers presenting their top 10 (of different sub genres). Let the light-hearted verbal blood-letting commence!
Necrotic Nick- Man... does it have to be just 10? I'd need like at least 40 I think lol. Nespithe would be on that list for sure though (Top 40). There's really no other band that sounds them. If it was 10 I'd just say that my favorites constantly shift and these are just 10 that I come back to. It's a cheap way out but it works lol.
Wow man, musically I loved this. I found myself nodding my head nearly the whole time. Some of these songs have like 3 killer riffs that could carry a song on its own, let alone putting 3 into one. But man it’s hard to get passed that damn bullfrog… it’s kinda laughable at times but I could see it growing after several listens
"Taco Bell inspired existential nightmare". Maybe that explains why every time i listen to this album i get brown streaks in my underwear. Nick you have the most unique and funny ways to describe the nasty metal we listen to... and i love it!
Awesome to tackle an album such as this for review but maybe give it some time to digest? “Listened to it yesterday for the first time”?! alrighty then 🤷♂️ 😅
Necrotic Nick- He's listened to it more than that he just doesn't remember. We also sit down and take a ton of notes, stop the music and discuss, go back over tracks. It's more than just a standard listen.
Necrotic Nick- I mean, we've all been there at one point, right? lol. Yeah, the vocals are a hard sell for a lot people but man, the riff work is some next level shit for sure.
Necrotic Nick- I wanted to see them on that headlining tour after MDF but I needed a break after that fest. I'm hoping they return though and the rumblings about a new album are true.

One of the best albums of all time🤘
Fun fact: The album title and the song 'Erecshyrinol' are anagrams. The album for 'The Spine' and the song for 'No lyrics here'
The spine or the penis
No lol, Nespithe stands for The Penis, even says so in the booklet which came with the LP
Another classic (to me) you could review: Morgue "Eroded Thoughts". Good channel guys, hails from Chile.
