    Hi Dave. I have been glued to your videos! I am starting from absolute scratch. As both my PC and my laptop are not powerful enough to run a sim rig, could you recommend a affordable computer set-up please. Many thanks Graham.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 роки тому +1

      Good Question Graham. Perhaps others will weigh in as well on this. Anything equal to an I7 or better, 16GB ram and a decent video card will run your GAME, The motion sim and other things. I can run the 2DOF motion sim and Live for speed on a super slow win7 laptop with 8GB ram.. It runs.. but I would get something better than that.. The motion sim is really just an Arduino and it's software is not very CPU intensive. Hope that helps you out.. Dave

    Hello, I love your videos and I followed your steps and was able to put together a 2 dof. I have a big problem and I hope you can help me. My 2 DOF works fine until the moment I adjust the potentiometers on the motor and that's where the SMC3 stops, everything remains off. but when I remove the potentiometers from the motor and they are loose there it works again. I hope for your help and thank you very much

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  6 місяців тому

      Oh wow.. Sorry to hear that.. I've not run across that issue yet. Ok.. so go back to basics.. disconnect power from both motors.. Get SMC3 running and make sure the Blue Line (pot line) is in the mddle.. if you move the pot, the Blue Line should move with it. Then move your clip limits and max limits out a bit.. The MAX limits (red line) will shut off the motor if the blue line intersects with it.. Try and get just ONE motor working at a time.. Let me know.. Dave

      Ok.. so a couple checks first.. Find the com port that the arduino is on.. Open the SMC3 configuration text file and edit the comm port so that it is the same as whatever com port your arduino is on.. save the file.. Then Open SMC3.. it should say (same com port) on bottom right.. Your Potentiometer (wired to A0) will give a reading to the arduino on Motor 1.. Let me know if you can twist the shaft of the POT connected to A0 and if the green readout moves when you do.. Dave

      @@user-ij4oh4hg8x Ok.. I ususally test the motors first to make sure they work .. If they are 24 v, you should be able to momentarily make them spin (without ardunio or IBT) just by touching the two wires coming out of the motor to the power source two wires. .. I do that all the time just to be sure the motors work.. I hope that makes sense.. (two motor wires , two power wires).. if you get it to spin one direction, flip the wires and it should spin the opposite direction.. Hi I've bought the uno R3, ibts and petentiometers and ready to wire them up :D on the COG video on your 3DOF rig for balancing the seat and frame with everything else.do I find the COG for the seat using the pole method, weld the Ujoint on and then balance it on the frame with everything else OR do I find COG with everything first then weld the Ujoint?

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  2 роки тому

      Your doing great Ryan. Ok on the 3DOF full frame rig, I had to use the pedals and wheel as well as seat to find the COG.. It's a bit precarious cause they are not connected together. but you can get pretty close. Also you need to be sitting in the seat . Helpful to have someone assist you but I did it myself. Anyway, once you find the Center of Gravity, Just line the U Joint up on the mid frame and tack weld in place.. I bolted the top of the U joint to the upper frame. • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for taking a look.. I dont think that will work very well because you need the pot or sensor to be reading position from 0 to 180 degrees. If it is a multi turn 10k, the pot would have to turn more than that (if I am understanding you correctly). The hall effect sensors I use have a 'sweet spot' of 180 degrees, they are multi turn because there is no physical boundry for them to reach. I have found some more inexpensive Hall effect sensors and listed the part numbers the this video below. ua-cam.com/video/BrHvLULfeEQ/v-deo.html Dave

    Hey Max, just wanted to ask a few questions if you could answer So if I understand this correctly. I'm on my way of getting everything together, power supplies, got 6x IBT-2's, got the arduino's, and need the motors and the pots.
    The motors you're using, are they 24 volts? I have 3x 12v power supplies for up to 30 amps of current, (as I might want to go for full platform rig (not seat mover that is)) and want to buy the 12V Crab pot motors on ebay. Can I hook up two motors to the same power supply or do I need one for each? And if I can hook up 2 motors to the same, that would mean 12V and 30A /2 on each, = 15 amps per motor?
    Just collecting my thoughts :) can't wait to start the electrician education (if you can put it that way) this fall, been waiting to do that for over 2 decades :)
    Thanks again for the inspiration to start this :D and for the Simtools the other day :)

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  Рік тому

      He Proximo! good to hear from you! So on the 3DOF rig I am using the 12 volt crab pot 50:1 motors .. all three of them run off the 12 volt truck battery. On the 2DOF seatmover, I have two AC to 24vDC converters, one per motor. Motors are 24volt wheelchair motors at measured 18-1 ratio. My opinion would be to get the 12 volt crab pot motors *as I can vouch they are powerful*. I would attempt to run them off the 30 amp supply but since you already have 3 x 12v 30 amp supplies, It would be easier on the power supplies to power each motor. FYI the most my 3DOF has pulled hard brake to full accel is 25 amps.. but that was a while ago and I have 'turned it up since then'. Keep pluggin away.. I just bought 3 more of those crab pot motors cause the had them in stock.. I just got them the other day.. * building a 6 dof* or at least going to try it.. Dave
