  • This video is demonstrates how to begin wiring up your DIY motion simulator - the electronic components - the aruduino uno, the IBT-2 motor controllers, the hall effect sensors.. I'm just showing you how I do this and what problems you may encounter.. It's a bit of a long video for me but if you really are interested in DIY motion simulators, like this 3DOF DIY motion simulator I showed how to make in the "compact" motion simulator series, then this video is for you.. please comment as I do attempt to cover even the most basic soldering, what to order, how to do it etc..

    Thanks for all of your hard work. I think the most important thing that you have done is including part numbers and where to get the parts. Yours is the first site that has done this and is crucial to figuring out what and where to get the parts.
    I just watched your latest video and want to bring some information to you. Watching you soldering directly on an Arduino Uno R3 was horrifying. One slip and you could ruin it.
    Might I suggest a diferent method. Search on amazon for an "arduino screw shield for Uno r3". A screw shield is a daughtercard that slips into the I/O pins of the Uno. You just slide the wire in and tighten down the small screw. You will never have to bring your soldering iron close to your board again.
    There are many different types of shields for various Arduinos.
    Again, I would like to thank you for showing me a path to build my own 3dof cockpit.

      Yeah.. I was worried about that too.. soldering on the arduino or any pcb .. but they always seem to pull through for me.. I do have the 'shield's I'll put one in the next video.. or suggest it.. Just cause I've been lucky doesnt mean someone else will and blow a $30 board.. Good point.. and I'll mention it for sure.. Hi, about pots (potentiometers) blue coloured multi turn ones can be used, those will need an additional pully conversion,(could be 3d printed or made from wood) for the accommodation of the multiple rotations, those are relatively cheaper, and relatively easy to come by.
    And could be replaced as required, for the hall effects those are built for life.
    There are 2 varients of those blue multi turn ones. One is for higher wattage just like Mr. Dave showing, another the smaller version more or less 1 by 2 cms ..yes in theory both of those could be used but smaller ones would be a hassle to work with.

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  Рік тому

      Hello Joe Six.. Thanks for watching and commenting. So I gave the wiper motors a shot and did a series on them.. unimpressive - or at least mine were - my motors were from a Saturn automobile (brand new but sadly. they were not convincing enough for me) and they were on a 'seatmover'.. just the seat.. not a full frame.. Perhaps others have had success.. maybe search x simulator.net.. but I did not. so the best advice I could give is perhaps using the wheelchair motors.. I did a series on that also and they did work for the 'seatmover'.. but wiper motors.. no. That's why I did the video series on them.. I wanted everyone to see they are not powerful enough (or at least mine were not).. Hope that helps.. Let me know which direction you are going to go in.. Dave

      Great comment and question Vectorr66! Yes.. I would think that a 2DOF (seatmover) would do well in that situation.. In your video you talk about the Hall sensor that rotates 360 degrees, in the material listing you gave a link to the PN 987-1392-ND sensor which according to the description on the linked page has Rotation Angle - Electrical, Mechanical (0° ~ 180°, Continuous), could you confirm that the link is correct ?

    • @DMAX_DIY
      @DMAX_DIY  11 місяців тому

      Yes thats the correct one.. It means that it will only 'read' the signal on half (180 degrees) or the rotation. the other 180 degrees it does not read the signal.. The sensor can rotate around and around no physical restrains.. it will only read the signal for half of a rotation. since your motors only rotate about 160 degrees this is perfect. hope that helps.. Or you could get 2 arduinos and 4 motors and program the arduino's (each on it's own USB com port) to accommodate your 4 DOF design. HOpe that steers you in the right direction. Dave

    Big D! I'm doing a 3DOF and was just told on xsim that using smc3 I need to run 2 arduino uno R3 s. One for pitch/roll, and one for yaw. I see in this tut that you run all 3 motors off 1 Arduino. Can you confirm that I will be ok with doing it like you did? My build thread there is "Winging a 3DOF". Id appreciate your input if you have some time available, love your videos dude!

      Hmm.. well, you absolutely can run 3 IBT's from one arduino. I do it all the time. SMC3 is simtools coding for 3 motors.. Confirmed.. The two main IBT's run at 35 khz sample rate, the third (which I use for Traction loss or YAW) would run at 32khz.. which is no big deal.. Check out the latest video if you want here is the link ua-cam.com/video/6rZMVFsoNHA/v-deo.html

      @@DMAX_DIY Most appreciated! I also noticed you have multiple emergency smash bottoms on your rig. Do you have a video that shows the install for those? Where do they go in line with the power supply?

      @@brianyuricich5730 I dont have a video about it.. but yes they go IN LINE with the battery power.. One is a simple battery disconnect.. the other is a 40 amp DC breaker which will break continuity if a short happens.. I'll see about making a video about them or including them on a new video.. Good point sir.. Dave

      @@DMAX_DIY well, my build is done, and so far I've blown 3 IBT-2s just during setup and testing. I'm running the same 24V psu's as you. I don't know where it's going wrong. All I know for sure is that my wiring is 100% correct. After pulling the bad IBT2's, I do a continuity check on all wires. Zero contact where there shouldn't be. Going to put 15A fuses inline with the hot wire to IBT2 and see how much load it takes to actually blow these things.

      Oh wow! that's crazy@@brianyuricich5730 - I think I only had one of mine fail (out of 20 or so that I have). Do they fail in SMC3? or in simtools? Could be that the motors are grounded for some reason.. Those devices, even though they are cheap seem to work well up to over 20 amps(that's as much as my rig pulled at one point measured on my amp clamp).. Supposed to be good to 43 amps.. Check between ground and both of the motor wires.. make sure there is no continutiy between ground and either of the motor wires. Write me back. Dave

    If there’s a tutorial video that’s quicker and they mess up at least you can rewind it as many times as you want 😂

    Totally unwatchable😂. Some people are just jelouse of your technical superiority and love to urinate in your pocket and tell you its raining. Screw the haters. They dont understand that its your passion for the subject that we all come here for. Fk em. If it wasnt for you i woukdnt have even started buying bits for my own build. Long may your unwatchable tutorials bring us confidence and perseverance to complete our own builds.

      Thanks Terry! Yeah.. Same opinion here.. This stuff I do is free.. it takes a while to make.. I hope it helps some guys out. Maybe it's too much to do - maybe they might think it's something they can actually do.. Ya never know.. I do know that like 30 guys have made rigs now partly because I shined the light on how to do it.. Maybe even more than that.. IDK.. I keep pluggin away.. trying to not make it boring but make it worth a click.. hahah Dave

      Well that's a good question.. I have been trying to make my email available on these videos.. I dont check it but a couple times per month, but I do check it.. max.motion.simulator@gmail.com should get your questions answered.. Dave
