  • Hi sim racing junkies and fly boys. In this video I take you through the fundamentals of testing your motion sim motors using the testing parameters in SMC3 utilities. We do this before launching into the game arena. We discuss and demonstrate PID loop setups and mixing those with PWM settings for a responsive, happy and safe motion simulator platform.

@madeinchina10 Thanks mate. It's a bit to get your head around and I'm no expert by a long shot, but willing to have a go and try stuff out. Even if it means coming to an abrupt halt! I have been tipped over twice now in the rig, but working on getting some stops in place so I can live a little longer.

Is shred lord a man or myth? An epic warrior capable of striking down 100 men with a single blow or nothing more than an urban legend?
Some say the shred lord is not a man at all, but instead a vessel for shred itself

Hey mate, I had motor stopping/dropping issues with my rig. Was really annoying if it happened in game as if I re-launched SRS/SimTools to get the motion going again, my Moza DD wheel FF would stop working.
Ended up changing from IBT2's to 2x32 Sabertooth and haven't had the issue since. My only conclusion was the IBT2's were going into some sort of safety mode (motors and IBT2's weren't hot, same as you).

Hi Matt. Thanks for the info. I never need to relaunch the game or apps. They always come back to life after about 10 seconds. I have looked at the sabretooths, but they are quite expensive. I know this is because they are very well built and you get what you pay for. Given this is one of only a couple of occasions this has happened, I'll see how it goes for a bit with some of the new SMC3 tweaks. If it keeps happening I'll save up and grab a couple of Sabretooths. To get the very best out of smc3 and sim tools, the sabretooths would be the best choice for sure.

@MCin91 hey Matt. Which sabretooths are you using? I see there are 25, 32 and 64 amp versions. Has the change over from IBT2 's meant you never have motors shutting down any more? Cheers.

@@Doctoradhd1 Hey mate, I got the 2x32 sabertooth and 4 2 ohm 100w resistors (seen mixed posts on xsim saying they're needed and not needed).
I also wired up my PSUs in parallel as the sabertooth has 2 channels.
Have had no cutouts since (even with heaver people using my rig).
I tried to test the smc3 input and output with a multimeter when everything was moving with the ibts but from what I could see the amps were quite low, not sure if this was just the multimeter not picking up the spikes or what.

@@Doctoradhd1 I'm using the 200w worm drive motors from motiondynamics and the motors are at the back of the rig

@@MCin91 Thanks Matt. Yes just been stalking xsim for info on getting a 2x32 setup. Looks like the 2x32 are the go with PSU's as the 2x60 needs batteries. If I go with the 2x32 I might get one to run the front motors, but just keep the traction loss on an IBT-2, though it does say you can control more motors with an additional arduino with the 2x32's??? How have you got yours setup assuming you are running a 3DOF setup?

No need to repeat youself 10times once and done.
