you have grasped why people still love cars like this perfectly. Slow car Fast is more fun than Fast car Slow. The manual steering on these is super direct, and the sound of the 4AGE (even tho it's not a massively powerful engine) is fantastic. Coupled with a body that weighs around 900kg (1984lbs) makes for a fun cheap car. Sadly parts are becoming harder to find

Legotruck82 I've definitely experienced that slow car fast is more fun than fast car slow. You could bang through 4 gears at full throttle and still go under the speed limit in my Volvo 740 GL ;D. You go full throttle in my Saab and you're going over the speed limit in half a second.

I have a 87' fx16 gts also with 4age and OMG PARTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE UNLESS YOU COME ACROSS ONE AT A JUNK YARD EVERY 6-8 MONTHS ... LOL
      KEEP THE AE82 GOING

you're so right about slow cars being more fun to drive hard. Being able to utilize more of the power, and it definitively takes more skill if it's a manual considering chances are you'll be shifting a hell of a lot more to stay in the power band.

4:07 Wow that was an eye opener. So you're saying is, that I don't need to spend over 20k in a car,and I don't need over 400 horsepower to be a fun having automotive enthusiast ? I'm considering now buying an similar momentum car and spend as little as possible, people will probably laugh at me and my choice, but I don't seem to care anymore, I just want to have fun.

I'd love to get one of these and put a blacktop and a six speed into it. This car seems like a stupid amount of fun... Just something about low power 80-90s cars with amazing induction noise, and hammering it feels so fun.

Nice. The 4AGE is a great little engine. Loves to rev and, while not a lot of power, sounds great. It works well in these small cars (I have an AW11). You need to put this engine in perspective for it's time: it was one of the first mass market 16V overhead cam engines with.EFI and electronically controlled ignition (Accord's were still using carburetors). Toyota continued to refine and improve it for almost another decade (supercharged, 7 rib, smallport, 20V silvertop and blacktops, iTB's, and VVT). The biggest issue with these old Toyota's: rust. Engines and drive trains outlast the cars many times over (prior to zinc dipping sheet metal).

Hope you keep it for a wee while longer and do a few more vids on it :)

If you want to repair your 4th gear the car takes the C50 or C52 trans most C series transmissions are compatible and can easily be found in Corollas from 88-97 both ae92 and ae100 cars probably lots available as you are in the PNW. The syncros are the weak point of the C transmission. Keep up the videos from this car. Performance corollas are a riot to drive I used to have an ae92 GTS now I have the Corolla XRS both are excellent.

i have a sr5 corolla, didnt have a radio sunroof or painted bumpers but it does have power steering, it was 1100 Canadian and has almost no rust, none you can see and none to the structure and 115k km. still a crazy fun car even with no front sway bar and sad excuse for one in the rear and stupid soft suspension, after a tun up when i got it, its been dead reliable

The ae82 is indeed a rare find. As an owner of one I can honestly say that I would buy another if I could find one. I can also tell you that if you wait until 6700rpms in 3rd to shift you will have zero power loss going straight to 5th. I can also tell you they will do 150mph without breaking a sweat.

Love for the Corolla! Woot! I would recommend EBC slotted and drilled rotors along with Red pads; personally have used them and would think you'll enjoy the set up. Warning though, might be a good amount of break dust but it stops the car on a dime after warming up from a few turns.

Front wheel drive Corollas are so underrated but honestly thats not a bad thing. AE86's are so damn expensive. The Tofu tax makes these FWD Corollas really appealing to me.
I disagree with you about the AE92 though. (Maybe because I own one...) But I think the AE92 has plenty of character. Maybe not the same as this car but I still enjoy the hell out of it.
