  • This is the second video In my series. In this video I open the PSPGo and remove the existing memory stick slot and prepare for the new MicroSD card adapter
Please watch the whole video as I make a few bad choices that cause me to damage the motherboard. The reason why It has taken me so long to release this video is because it was no a success.
Some of my points of reference have been:www.dbwbp.com/i...
    and
    hackinformer.c...
For ease of setup I recommend an adapter over soldering as these motherboards are hard to come by these days.
I have a 3rd video that i'm working on that shows the process of soldering the adapter to the board. my process is solid , but because I damaged my board I cannot show a successful mod. this UA-camer was able to do it properly.

This is a really interesting project, I hope the final part comes out. Reminded me of how much I loved this before giving it to some far off cousin lol. Makes me want to buy a psp go asap!

me too. I am looking for another PSPGo to subject to the mod. I am recommending that users just use the ribbon cable mod is it has the same results with none of the possible failures. www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1026943068/pspgo-microsd-memory-card-adapter

@@ScottBruder yea the ribbon mod is a great one, unfortunately it's not as flush tho and your back plate will buldge a bit unless if you have a modded back plate that has more room for the mod

Quite a task to undertake super exited for part three. Sorry to hear you need another motherboard. I hope you can find one at a reasonable price. Very interested in seeing your idea come to fruition, don't think I will ever try this myself though.

Thanks a lot for sharing this project. You've inspired me to make this mod on a 2nd psp go which was laying around and I managed to successfully install the adapter on my psp go. I used all the same parts as you did and it works quite well.
There is one thing... I also accidently ripped off 3(!!!) pads at the same time by clumsiness :-) The thing is that there are alternative pads on the board, which you can use instead of the pads where you supposed to place the card reader. So, maybe there is a chance to still use your own motherboard. I could post to an image where I have marked the alternative pads, but it looks like that links are not allowed...

I know. its was a very bad job, I was angry at myself, It has made me less interested in making videos. When i can just concentrate without the distraction of a camera in my way I can focus alot better. I appreciate your comment.

I would love to see what you did. I have also considered trying to trace the damaged pads. if you have any information please let me know. find my contact information at scottb.ca . I would also like to hear your story about how your project went!!

I hope someone will find this useful. I would have used a heat gun on that memory card slot. First I would use flux on the connection points, slightly heat up the spot and the surrounding area, then cover up the the rest of the board (to lessen heat exposure to the area I'm not working on) and go to town on the card slot itself. Move the tip of the heat gun around and do not keep it super close to the board. Working on a hard table is not very good, as the motherboard slides around when you try to work on it. Use clamps to hold it and then you could access the board with a heat gun from the other side, if needed (put the vise at the edge of the table, then you can still keep the board horizontal, but elevated with easy access to the other side). Heat up the card slot and use tweezers to check if the slot starts moving. When the piece is removed, cleanup the connectors, apply more flux generously and apply some new solder to all the connectors. Apply the new microSD card slot (you can heat up the board a bit first before mounting the card slot) and use a heat gun again (evenly) to solder the piece in place. Apply extra solder at the slot connectors. Make sure there is plenty of flux there, then you just just drag the tip of your iron with some solder on it and the solder will stick to the metal parts (joints) only (thanks to the generous amount of flux). When done, check for continuity/shorts as usual and clean off all the leftover flux from the board. With enough care you will not lift traces with your future boards. This will take you less time to finish than in the video and the board will be exposed to less heat as well overall.

this is a great project, but you should have used a heatgun!

I am so sad about destroying the main board. I have since got another one. But i think I would just rather tuck a ribbon cable into the battery compartment over trying the mod again.

Sometimes I wish I had requested from Sony a few PSP go motherboards without m2 card slot before the production end :D mounting a micro SD card slot is easier from taking out m2 slot.
