I guess that means dementors can understand human speech or at least there is some way of communicating with them? and i also guess that they have a kind of hive mind since they kind of split instead of reproducing. I wonder if voldemort said to them something like "if you help us win the war, you can attack as many muggles as you want" that would be an offer they couldnt refuse. I mean, isn't Azkaban was a hideout for a dark wizard Ekrizdis to who made Dementors, then after his death this place was abandoned and swarmed with dementors so ministry, when found this place, decided to make a jail So they didn't actually "hired" dementors. They just sent prisoners to the "natural habitat" of the Dementors.
The "purity of heart" qualification doesn't specify it must be a heart of purely good. A heart of pure evil should suffice as long as one also has "good" memories to latch onto for the spells incantation.
I've always wondered about this too. It's hard to tell just how intelligent the Dementors are supposed to be. Clearly there's an almost animalistic 'food'-like incentive in play, denoting that they don't have much of a mind... however they also seem to be able to be given a task and maybe understand that task (or order), and carry it out to some degree; such as when searching for Sirius Black. They have a target and an objective, and although they botch it on the train when they attack Harry, I think they are still at least trying to carry out their objective. I also think there's a very fuzzy line between them 'switching sides' because they're simply following their instincts in order to hunt for 'food', and them actually making a collective decision to do so. It's also difficult to tell if they act as part of a pack, or as individuals. For example when they're swarming Harry and Sirius in the infamous "Expecto Patronum" scene, are they all there in a group for a reason or are each of them simply in it for themself? (The latter seems more likely to me, based on their behaviour). I would love to know what people think about this.

Dolores was not a "dark witch" (or wizard). She was merely power hungry and willing to take any route. It is not necessarily evil, but not entirely good.
@@ryanbennett2806 you know what, you convinced me. She was just a huge power hungry ‘female dog’ instead of someone merely focused on chaos/despair/destruction. Does sound kinda logical. Besides, she didn’t/doesn’t have it in her to be truly dark or evil..
Honestly it really makes sense that Voldemort, someone who struggled to even understand what happiness or love was since he had never known either, was basically unaffected by Dementors. That deadened feeling Rowling describes. When you've already given up on happiness. That's when something truly dies on the inside. And it's a real feeling. I don't even want to be happy anymore. If a Dementor came near me, I genuinely believe I would be less affected than most around me. Not immune, since I can still feel moments of joy, but for the most part, the way a Dementor would make me feel is exactly the same as the way I've felt for years. So just like I've done in real life, I could probably just push through it. So someone like Voldemort who is far more screwed up than I've ever been would likely barely even notice their presence.
There are other spells to control or defend from dementors. It is clearly implied on the books that the patronous spell is the best against them, as it can push all of them away, but it is not consistent, as the wizard need to be in a psychological condition that will be able to produce this difficult charm. I am sure there are other spells that can be used more consistently, but probably are advanced spells. Another matter is that if the dementors cannot die, and only multiply, it is a matter of time when they will destroy humanity. Then the dementors should be the No1 priority for the wizarding world.
Maybe they need to make some void magic and shot dementors into void of space or teleport them into the surface of the sun. It's just fun idea. Though.
The already did and there was a war where wizards lost that's why the hide amount muggles. In book 6 the minister of magic reports to the prime Minister even enforcing that wizards lost an what remains left agreed to live hidden.
We know Voldemort pushed the boundaries of magic further to ever have been pushed, so he may have discovered a dark charm to control the dementors just like he discovered how to raise inferi and fly without broom etc.
"Why would the Dementors serve the Ministry? Well, there are a few reasons." 'Due rent' was one of them. But, yeah, allying with the Dementors would have backfired for Voldemort, real bad, on the flip side, allying with Voldemort would have backfired for the Dementors, real bad. If they breed in the darkest of areas, survive on 'happy' memories, that Voldemort would not have produced if he ruled, then their species would probably have starved to death.
What im curious about is that given that dementors 'betrayed' the ministry were they put back on guard patrol after voldemorts demise or forced into the shadows. It wouldnt seem wise to place these creatures back at Azkaban after they demomstrated there willingness to switch sides so easily.
Would be interesting to know if anybody has ever tried to kill a dementor and how they tried! How do they stand up to "Fiend fire" for example? Or a patronus cast by a powerful wizard wielding "The Elder Wand", would that be sufficient enough to bring down a dementor for good?
I was wondering if you could do a video about what would have happened if Snape was nice to James on the Hogwarts Express and didn't laugh when James said he wanted to become a Gryffindor. I think that possibly, Harry's parents could have survived. Let me elaborate. If Snape was nice to James then Sirius wouldn't have piped up and shoot a mean insult back at Snape. James would probably think of Snape as a nice guy and become friends with him. Snape would hen later become friends with Lupin and possibly Pettigrew while having Lily as a friend too. He wouldn't be hanging around with the death eaters anymore and have James and them. He probably even would have been involved with the mauraders map and become an animagus for Lupin. Later on I still believe James would marry Lily but Snape would be so god friends he wouldn't care. Snape might have evn been secret keeper by Lily and if he was the Potters would never have died because Voldemort would have never found them and Sirius would have no reason to go after Peter because Peter wouldn't be secret keeper or probably have no recollection of where the house is because Snape then would probably be good at Legilemency and be able to tell Peter isn't trustworthy. Sure I don't know how Voldemort would be stopped but probably by Aurors or someone else because he would never know about the prophecy since Snape was the one who heard it and told it to him and with Snape being a good guy Voldy would have no reason to go after the Potters even with Peter possibly knowing the location. Harry would grow up not hating Snape but loving him along with Lupin, Sirius and maybe Pettigrew. He wouldn't be famous and have no lightning scar being in a loving home rather than the Dursleys and the job for destroying Voldy could possibly even go to someone else. So many changes could have been made if Snape was nice to James that day that it's actually mind blowing.
it is still incredible to believe that a powerful dark wizard would simply be helpless agaisnt dementors. Snape at one point disagreed with Harry on the best way to deal with a dementor. There just has to be a way for them to neutralize them. (occlumency perhaps, if animagus can confuse dementors with a primitive animal mind, perhaps sufficiently shielding one's mind can erase one's presence from them.). I suppose in places that you can apperate, you may be able to flee.
I don't think they're powerless against them. Sure, they can't conjure a patronus, but I wager there are probably other spells that affect them. Basilisk stares, for example, can paralyze ghosts, so they might even be able to hurt dementors. After all, Ekrizdis had to have a back up plan for dealing with them. Just because you can't kill the dementors doesn't mean you can't seal them, paralyze them, or ward them off. A patronus is the best way to do it, but there must be others.
This is very interesting as I do wonder about the intelligence of dementors. I did watch a documentary where a particular pride of lions and monkeys shared a mutual relationship. Where the lions would not harm nor eat them, but in exchange monkeys will not sound the alarm for other animals to run when the lions are near. So gazelles will be less skittish when they see monkeys are out in the open and calm, but this is a trick. The lions will surround their target knowing the monkeys won’t sound the alarm and the lions make an easy kill. This is about survival. The dementors as you mentioned have everything to gain by siding with Voldemort. Bigger meals. Dark wizards/witches don’t have enough happy memories to feed on.
Wow! Rowling is quite articulate with describing depression and comparing it to sadness. Its Interesting that Umbridge can cast a patronus charm....I wonder which sadistic memory she evoked to cast her patronus?
Surely it would be defence against the dark arts? Voldemort even applied for the job to teach it but was turned down by dumbledore. Not to mention the fact that even him learning about defence against the dark arts he would still be learning about the dark arts to an extent.

I'm of the opinion that Voldemort isn't affected by dementors. I mean, they suck happy thoughts, feelings and memories out of you... but Voldemort has none. He doesn't know and has never known happiness. So they have nothing to feed on, on this side. Also, not only has he committed atrocities, damaging his soul, but he actually split his own soul. Even if dementors wanted to kiss him, there wouldn't be much for them to eat. So I guess that being kind of invulnerable gives you some sort of power over them.
@@denizkenger52 I disagree. The first thing that comes to my mind is his laughter, which Harry always describes as joyless. Secondly, dementors feed on positive emotions, and the savage pleasure that comes from the death of Harry isn't very positive, in my opinion. Rather than joy, I'd describe it more as schadenfreude. Plus, psychopaths usually feel little to no emotion, other than anger, hate and sadistic pleasure. Which to me seems kinda fitting for voldemort. Also, about little joy meaning vulnerability, my counterexample would be Sirius. He says that what kept him sane in Azkaban was the thought that he was innocent, which wasn't a happy thought, and that's why dementors couln't suck it out of him. I'd say the same for Voldemort. He isn't "sane" because of happy memories. He doesn't need them. Even if he had some, dementors could suck them out him, and he wouldn't be affected.
@@denizkenger52 ok, so I guess it's a matter of definition: I wouldn't call that happiness. But not just because it's not what makes me happy, but rather because it would require to stretch the definition of happiness on a fundamental level. Not only that, but dementors are said to thrive in decadence and despair, devoiding air of beauty, hope and peace. Actions that align with the first category (decadence and despaie), rather than the second, don't seem like they can produce emotions a dementor would feed on. Kind of a dementor's blind spot, when attacking bad people. Also, I think Harry's perception matters because it's one of different clues. We're often told how voldemort is enraged, furious, sometimes worried or afraid, but whenever he's supposed to be happy there's no actual joy. And about pride, I'd say that being arrogant doesn't necessarily mean being proud, but also that pride isn't a positive emotion per sé. It can be and it can not, think of pride as a deadly sin, leading to decadence in christian mythology, and voldemort to his downfall in the saga.
1st potterheadd But funny how a Rowle. Who where pretty extreme death eaters. But that it was one of their own family member, put her own family who got into Azkaban a hard damn time My comment is gonna get pinned. I already know it
I am wondering, what exactly classifies as a happy memory? Is it a memory that made oneself happy or a general happy memory? I mean if Umbridge thought of suppressing supposedly muggle-borns, and that made her very happy would that be enough for her to conjure a Patronus?
I think the reason almost no dark witch or wizard got attacked by dementors is for the reason, that people like the death eaters gain "happiness “ or in immoral way, by killing people etc. I believe that confuses the dementors, so I assume they can just feed on genuine happiness.
One Doubt - If voldy offered the dementors free feed on the wizarding world Then this goes opposing to voldy that no pure magical blood should be lost or caused damage until they cause a problem to him. And one more Even if dark wizard give dementors more food don't the dementors affect them .
honestly i would say no , Dementors feed from positive Emotions , the good parts of a soul... your true heart if you wanna say so ... and creating a Horkrux is an act of such immorality itself, that the Horkrux itself shouldnt contain any of that kind ... That dementors wont like it , does not say that they couldnt so
@@florianpasselaigue6115 the question is do they feed on Happyness cuz its tasty, orcuz they can't degust else, I'm afraid it depends on the concept, is depression an abundance of Happyness or it own thing, in first case a horkrux would be "empty" maybe, for with all we know about it, a horcrux could be the sinnfree part of a soul, that is abandoned and bind by the Witcher... In that case it would be quite tasty, how anyways does a dementors kiss affect afterlife? And how would it be to have the horcrux not dying, but being erased by a dementor
The part that doesnt make sense to me is how Umbridge was able to use Patronus , I wish the story explained that part , or show her more human side or something
I wonder... If someone creates a Horcrux, they split their soul and lock a part of it away, right? Now if this person gets kissed by a Dementor... could that soul piece be used to replace the devoured piece?

What I have never been able to understand is, if dementors feed on misery and despair, why are they also described as creatures who suck all hope and happiness out of a person or place? I find it a bit confusing, because both descriptions fit perfectly to a dementor but they also seem to be total opposites to each other.
How did deatheaters like Bellatrix stay the same evil people they were after decades of the influence of dementors? It changed Dudley's view of life. (I know he was "just" spoiled and not evil) but why didn't it change them?
A fixation on beeing evil or hurting others. They are to insane and evil to break. Sirius has the Petigrew fixation and it helped. Dudley was moulded as he was and when showed his evil ways, he changed. Belatrix is psychotic. She is evil to the core.
I have a theory that Umbridge could only cast a Patronus because the Slytheryn medalion let her more powerfull at a point to make her not fell the consequences
Any idea of the magical process of how wand cores are fitted inside the wand wood would be appreciated i think many have that question HPT any theory then please make a video of this
I think that the reason Umbridge could produce a patronus is because she was so twisted in her mind she was able to convince herself that what she was doing was the right thing to do to get everyone to follow the rules and I’m not sure whether she even realized how absolutely sick her actions were. But maybe it was just because she was born without any human emotions, wich is why she could be deemed neither worthy nor unworthy of producing a patronus, because let’s be real Voldy‘s bad but Umbridge is worse.
I really wish we have a Harry Potter tv show, not just origin stories but where we have a lot of the same characters and it would be much more Harry Potter related than Fantastic Beast
Could we possibly have a Stargate SG-1 Asgard situation here? I don't think a single wizard would ever think about lighting up a dementor with with a .50 BMG. Can we get an alternate future where Voldemort has to team up with the remnants of the U.S. Military to rid the world of dementors?
how about a dark wizard using legilimency on another person and feed the dementor with that person's good memories? can it work? just asking for a friend

Voldemort could also use them to just purge the entire muggle population, imagine how many dementors there would be after they ate the souls of all muggles in england, millions of them.
Only the pure of heart can produce a Patronus.... How the hell did Umbridge manage to produce one then... 😅
Happy memories of torturing kittens? And people? Or the time she made Harry Potter used a cursed quill and was like ☺️
Dbz abridged Vegeta once said: “my heart is pure.... pure unadulterated badassness.” When he went super sayian
Her heart is pure, pure evil
Because she's a particularly vile excuse of a human being who is paradoxically invigorated by things like wearing a Horcrux and oppressing people.
Basically because she's a special kind of Evil whose soul thrives on negativity etc rather than being damaged by it.
If the regular patronus works on happy or good memories doesnt it mean ''pure of heart '' they think them selfs pure of heart

One more: Why did Kingsley say YOU-KNOW-WHO because mostly The Order members used the term Voldemort, and Kingsley was very brave and even Sirius and Remus said Voldemort, then why not Kingsley when he didn't even know that that name was tracked........
wasn't he himself the one that almost got caught because he said Voldemort?
@@EstherHulst-Artist who?? Kingsley??? When?

@@EstherHulst-Artist That means that he did say Voldemort but I'm referring to before that, in the chapter "the seven potters", he said You-Know-Who
But it doesn't matter if he used his name after that... I just meant that he didn't say Voldemort when he was in front of Harry... :P
Maybe in Voldemort’s case he and the dementors bonded over the missing nose situation.

Excellent HP Theory, I wonder if ,crouch Jr was thinking I am not afraid they are our natural allies, when they begin to suck his soul out
I mean, isn't Azkaban was a hideout for a dark wizard Ekrizdis to who made Dementors, then after his death this place was abandoned and swarmed with dementors so ministry, when found this place, decided to make a jail
So they didn't actually "hired" dementors. They just sent prisoners to the "natural habitat" of the Dementors.
Always wondered about that; thanks! ❤️ Great video! Love the quote
the biggest question is how Umbridge can produce a Patronus charm despite being on the Voldy side 😐😐😐
That question makes no sense, since when being evil makes you incapable of perfoming an patronus?
She is incredibly happy and enjoys her own cruelty. Kind of makes sense her patronus is a cat.
The "purity of heart" qualification doesn't specify it must be a heart of purely good. A heart of pure evil should suffice as long as one also has "good" memories to latch onto for the spells incantation.
Umbridge might be evil, but she's no Voldy follower.
She was not a Voldemort follower. Lost and clearly drinking the “pure blood” kool aid but not a dark wizard

That’s quite delicately put. She did allow physical punishments and torture, though. I would classify that as evil, not merely power hungry. 😮
@@MirrorMountain the end goal was the pursuit of power. Wen she arrived at Hogwarts she was eye-ing Dumbledore's job real quick.
Man, imagine having a dementor as a pet. That would be pretty brutal.😵

The ending Dumbledore quote was magnificent!!
I just assumed Dementors were more or less like dogs or bears. They'll do anything for a treat and can be trained.
Literally wondered this yesterday. Thank you
Maybe they need to make some void magic and shot dementors into void of space or teleport them into the surface of the sun.
It's just fun idea. Though.
Prediction: they probably sense no soul to suck out so they seen them as their own.
Result: I was wrong, Voldy offered them food on happy waizards
Day 1025 of asking you to do a video on what would happen if all mugules found out about witches and wizards exist
The already did and there was a war where wizards lost that's why the hide amount muggles. In book 6 the minister of magic reports to the prime Minister even enforcing that wizards lost an what remains left agreed to live hidden.
Honestly if i became a wizard id work on getting a patronus in a heart beat because having a ethereal pet would be awesome.
We know Voldemort pushed the boundaries of magic further to ever have been pushed, so he may have discovered a dark charm to control the dementors just like he discovered how to raise inferi and fly without broom etc.
I have always wondered this, thx!
"Why would the Dementors serve the Ministry? Well, there are a few reasons."
'Due rent' was one of them.
But, yeah, allying with the Dementors would have backfired for Voldemort, real bad, on the flip side, allying with Voldemort would have backfired for the Dementors, real bad.
If they breed in the darkest of areas, survive on 'happy' memories, that Voldemort would not have produced if he ruled, then their species would probably have starved to death.
just found your channel and started binging already! Subbed :D great videos that are well put together.
What im curious about is that given that dementors 'betrayed' the ministry were they put back on guard patrol after voldemorts demise or forced into the shadows. It wouldnt seem wise to place these creatures back at Azkaban after they demomstrated there willingness to switch sides so easily.
They replaced them. Kingsley says so in deathly hallows(book)

Would be interesting to know if anybody has ever tried to kill a dementor and how they tried!
How do they stand up to "Fiend fire" for example? Or a patronus cast by a powerful wizard wielding "The Elder Wand", would that be sufficient enough to bring down a dementor for good?
Hi you should do a video on whether the dementor affects voldemort at any time of his life and what does he sees.
Wow, this is a very in depth theory
I don't think they're powerless against them. Sure, they can't conjure a patronus, but I wager there are probably other spells that affect them. Basilisk stares, for example, can paralyze ghosts, so they might even be able to hurt dementors.
After all, Ekrizdis had to have a back up plan for dealing with them.
Just because you can't kill the dementors doesn't mean you can't seal them, paralyze them, or ward them off. A patronus is the best way to do it, but there must be others.
you should probably include this whenever you talk about the patronus charm but expecto patronum also deters lethifolds
"In an interview, Rolling was asked to describe what depression feels like. She said the following-"

Surely it would be defence against the dark arts? Voldemort even applied for the job to teach it but was turned down by dumbledore. Not to mention the fact that even him learning about defence against the dark arts he would still be learning about the dark arts to an extent.

@@jaylathi5876 All creatures feared the dark lord. He’s somewhat personified as an “evil” god. Dementors can sense power. They knew that voldemort was the most powerful wizard of all time, who’s powers were only matched by Dumbeldore. They wouldn’t even dare question his motives. Remember he pushed the boundaries of magic to levels never pushed before. I’m sure he knew how to destroy them, if they were to ever betray him.
@F Alsayed exactly😂
@@denizkenger52 I agree ;)

But funny how a Rowle. Who where pretty extreme death eaters. But that it was one of their own family member, put her own family who got into Azkaban a hard damn time
My comment is gonna get pinned. I already know it
I never thought about it but you're right the dementors would absolutely turn on voldy after a while
the two dislikes are voldemort and grindlewald
I am wondering, what exactly classifies as a happy memory? Is it a memory that made oneself happy or a general happy memory? I mean if Umbridge thought of suppressing supposedly muggle-borns, and that made her very happy would that be enough for her to conjure a Patronus?
Can dementors be killed? If so, are there any examples of it?
I think the reason almost no dark witch or wizard got attacked by dementors is for the reason, that people like the death eaters gain "happiness “ or in immoral way, by killing people etc. I believe that confuses the dementors, so I assume they can just feed on genuine happiness.
Question: Could a demeantor destroy a horcrux?
One Doubt - If voldy offered the dementors free feed on the wizarding world Then this goes opposing to voldy that no pure magical blood should be lost or caused damage until they cause a problem to him. And one more Even if dark wizard give dementors more food don't the dementors affect them .
Could it be possible voldemort could kill a dementor even with the elder wand?
Since the dementor's ultimate move is to eat a person's soul, could they destroy a horcruxe if they stumbled upon one ? 🤔
I can’t believe this comment doesn’t have more likes this is such an interesting question that I want to know the answer to
honestly i would say no , Dementors feed from positive Emotions , the good parts of a soul... your true heart if you wanna say so ... and creating a Horkrux is an act of such immorality itself, that the Horkrux itself shouldnt contain any of that kind ... That dementors wont like it , does not say that they couldnt so
@@thefench1 interesting point. I guess maybe they could but wouldn't anyway
I always thought abt this thx for the amazing content
I could imagine that Voldemort would be able to come up with a dark partronus if he put his mind to it, and could teach his followers how to do it.
Actually he can't because he'd dead.

Video Idea:
What would Cedric Diggory's Patronus? This is a question I've had in my mind for quite a while.
get a life.
The real reason Umbridge could produce a patronus: Pure evil is indeed pure, just not good.
How did the dementors speak to Wizards to come to agreement over Azkaban?

One thing everyone gets wrong, it's not that the Dark Wizards CAN'T cast patronous, it's that they don't feel a need to.
That "more to offer" dark wizards and witches could give to the dementors would probably include most of the muggle population for them to feed on.
how about a dark wizard using legilimency on another person and feed the dementor with that person's good memories? can it work? just asking for a friend
