Herpo himself could still be alive. we only know that he created a Horcrux, we have no idea if it's been destroyed and (if so) how and by whom it was destroyed.
Yeah especially because if I remember right the only methods of destroying horcruxes found in the books were discovered by accident. Harry at the time thought he destroyed the diary just by stabbing it. It was Dumbledore who understood that it had to be something more given the durability of horcruxes, concluding it had to be the venom. And then the Fiendfyre was accidentally discovered as well if I recall correctly. The crucial detail is there are no records of materials or spells that destroy horcruxes. That means Voldemort's may have been the first to ever be destroyed, so Herpo and potentially others may have never died.
@@wafflingmean4477 IIRC by the time of the Deathly Hallows there are five known methods of destroying a horcrux, and they are listed in the same book that details how to make one. Not exactly. Remember, Herpo the Foul lived over 2,000 years ago. Therefore, any one who knew his victims or directly witnessed his evil deeds have been long dead.
That is exactly my theory too, but all you non-Greek people who have the same idea miss the most important detail, which is really hidden in plain sight. The name Herpo, is a direct transfer in English from Greek of the word Herpon-Έρπων (most -ων male names lose their -n in Latin/English, thus why Herpo). Herpon-Έρπων is the participle of the verb herpo-έρπω which means slither. The participle is analyzed as "ούτος ος έρπει"/"ootos os herpee". That in English is translated as "he who is slithering". You english speakers dont pronounce the -g at the end when you speak and the y makes the name sound better than with an i, not to mention that it makes the word sly appear in his name. Thus JK Rowling gave us Hepro's name directly as Salazar's surname: [he who is] Slytherin'. Lorewise probably Herpo or his descendants took the english version of that name as a surname when they moved to the british isles.
I would add that in middle English 'y' was used in many words instead of 'i', and there was no formal spelling rules, so people would often write names however they hear it. "Slyther" is the middle English graphy for "slither", so indeed it is just the spelling of his time petrified in the name.
Herpo The Foul wasn't born a Parselmouth, he obtained that ability when he made the Basilisk his Horcrux. He linked his soul with a snake so he began to understand snakes or something like that.
I gotta question, If a Dementor were to eat Harry's soul before the Horcrux was gone would it only eat Harry's soul leaving the part of Voldemort's soul to fully take over his body or the other way around like how the Killing Curse killed that part of Voldemort's soul or would it just take both not caring
But then again idk if the dementors being loyal to Voldemort would have an effect on sucking Voldemort’s soul or if they would just sense a soul and not specifically the one that has another piece of it inhabiting the body of Voldemort who they obey.
Well Rowling did put a lot of lore out there as well that's not strictly in the confines of the books. Not to mention the fantastic beasts series as well.
It's also ironic that voldemort caused Harry to grow up like him, an orphan who was mistreated, which caused Harry to sympathize with him and still try to give him a chance
Voldemort was not as mistreated, he was a bully in the orphanage. Since he was born from a love potion affair, Tom Riddle was born as a psychopath without the ability to feel affection towards others.
I have a theory about Horcrux creation. I's stated that being a Parselmouth is a sign of being a dark witch or wizard. And creating a Horcrux involves very dark magic. My theory is that the spells used in creating a Horcrux must be spoken in Parseltongue, which contributed to the belief that those who can speak it are dark witches and wizards.

Thus, Sir Cadogan's portrait is forever challenging people to a fight, falling off its horse and behaving in a fairly unbalanced way, which is how the subject appeared to the poor wizard who had to paint him, while the portrait of the Fat Lady continues to indulge her love of good food, drink and tip-top security long after her living model passed away. Could you make hypothetical battle between all dark wizards like Grindelwald, Salazar, Herpo, Voldy, Ekrizdis, Rekzidian vs All notable and strong good guys like Gryffindor, Huffelpuff, Ravenclaw, Dumbledore, Newt Scamander, Moody, Iileus etc.
Wow....You are the only UA-cam Channel on Harry Potter get the order of the Horcruxes correct. The Ring was made first then the Dairy after he had that conversation with Slughorn. Thanks great video!
Herpo the Foul couldn't have lived at the same time as Ekrizdis, Ekrizdis lived in the 15th century and Herpo lived closer to ancient Greece times, he was already ancient before Hogwarts was made, he was the first one to breed a basilisk and believed to be the ancestor of Salazar Slytherin because they both spoke Parselmouth.
So is Herpo the Foul, still around in today's Wizarding World? Or was his Horcrux destroyed? Because if not -- might be a decent villain in a future book/film/play.
My question is, does it stop aging? Voldemort seemed to age a bit even after making his first Horcruxs. Is he lying somewhere, trapped in a feeble and useless body, aged beyond use and unable to die. Something about that feels fitting.
@@danielkubicek1323 i think there should be a limit of how many horcruxes you can make. You can only slice your soul so much. At the end you will be an empty husk devoid of ambitions or feelings
How accurately can wizards (and witches) apparate? If it is very accurate, then could Voldemort during the battle of the seven potters apparate straight next to Harry to finish him? Also, could someone apparate inside of another, to end both people.I think that surely some wizard has accidentally apparated inside of another.
You have to have complete focus to be accurate with apparation so that's why mid battle apparation isn't shown. In canon no one really has that level of focus to both defend and attack while also attempting to perform apparation
Two things i got myself thinking about are what was Herpo horcrux vessel, and what happened to it. Also, how likely it is that the guy put it in the basilisk?
Is Herpo still alive or was his Horcrux destroyed in similar ways as Tom Riddle's were? If still a live, and if a few other dark wizards were able to create a horcrux also than the wizarding community is still in danger because of them.
one question I'd love the answer to that no one seems to address are if you find out an object is a horcrux is it possible to figure out whose soul is in it? I mean the ones in potter they knew going into it but lets say the opal necklace turned out to be a horcrux (a popular fan theory) would it be possible to tell who made it? and if so how?
It would probably be hard, but doable in the right circumstances; it has some aura and influence on the carrier. An advanced researcher like Scamander could use things like the powder he uses in the 'crimes of grindelwald' to discover what happened with the circus. Combine that with reverse spell, which gives the last spells done with a want. Those items/spells could be transformed to find the creator. If you then aren't familiar with the person itself, it would still be hard to find the creator in person.

@RabiyaRavenclaw you're right! Must've had some sort of, I dunno, memory lapse or something because on my files (music etc.) I do have the label Wizarding World.. 😅
The name choice of Herpo is likely also derived from the Greek word herpetón, meaning “reptile” or “creeping animal.” The academic study of reptiles, amphibians, and snakes is called herpetology.
If I remember right theres a story of rowling telling the details of making a horcrux to a friend once and it made the friend actually sick. Thus one of the reasons only a few people will know about that secret
I would assume it would involve canbalism. You would kill the target then eat them, that would split your soul, as Voldemort kills multiple hundreds but only a few make a horcrux
Hey there. I've been watching many of your HP history and theories. During breakfast this morning I had a thought. While watching your video on parseltongue. Could it be possible that Hero the Foul is actually Salazar Slytherin? Hear me out. Herpo invented the first horcrux; meaning he is immortal. The lore never goes over how/if he died, only that he lived in ancient times. If we look at Voldemort after he made his first horcrux, he starts to go bald. Salazar has always been depicted as bald. Same as Herpo's image. If you look at the images of Herpo and Salazar side by side they look fairly identical.. Just a small theory that I wanted to share with you.
If you look thru these comments there's a comment high up by a Greek Guy who says that the Greek Translation of Herpo is literally "Slithering" without the letter G at the end because apparently Greeks don't enunciate it. So you may be right!
It's huge fun for you and I'm enjoying then too keep it yo till you run out of dark wizards then do light then back to your usual videos which are also cool.
I have two questions that could be a video: How wizards came to be ? How dumbledore aged so much in 11 years from crimes of Grindelwald to memories of Tom Riddle ?
Movies. In the book it talks about how when Dumbledore first meets Tom Riddle he is wearing a purple suit and he like jaunty or whatever. Much younger. The movie dumbledore was meh. That actor was meh. I wish the first dumbledore didnt die.
I’d like to know more about the role of wizards during the Second World War. Did they play a role in the weather on D Day? Anything with the Holocaust etc. Also. Any thoughts as to the Black Death being caused by an evil Wizard?
Because he can't keep the basilisk with himself all the time. As it's huge and can be noticed by anyone easily. Secondly it will stun his deatheaters.. 😂
Ok but tell me this - where do you get this all from? I mean, it's not like the books mention it. Or do they? I need information, cause I feel bad for not knowing all this in the first place.
I'm actually working on a fan project of Herpo the Foul, how he created the Basilisk, the Horcrux and had a massive battle with a Greek Wizard, and faked his death so he could disappear without anyone being the wiser. Chronologically it's the first project in my Fan HP Timeline
I like to think there are other (albeit very few) witches & wizards that have successfully created a horcrux, although Voldemort is the first to create more than one. Did J.K. Rowling confirm that Herpo and Voldemort are the only ones to ever create one?
I always find the commentary on the witchhunts interesting because they always capture the wizard side of it, but not the Muggle side of it. Historically (that is, in the real world), the worry was not "Witches and wizards are evil", it was "This witch or wizard did things that hurt people". That is to say, being a witch was not a crime in most places. Hurting people with your magic, however, was. Sounds to me like some misunderstandings were at play.
Was the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets first let out by Tom Riddle? If Salazar intended the basilisk to purge the school of muggles, was it let out soon after the creation of the chamber? It just seems strange that he wanted to purge the school of muggles, but he locked it away in a very _secret_ chamber. And I've wondered this about horcruxes - do you have to murder someone and simultaneously weave some magic into the object intended to be the horcux, or does a horcux happen every time you murder someone?
But if Voldy wanted to originally creat 7 horcruxes and he didnt know Harry was one.. why didnt he create another? During the battle? Or was his soul to fragmented to create another?

8:08 full of evil spells but Hermione has still read it likely from cover to cover.
8:14 "maybe he's even responsible for the Dementors" seen in the English subtitles. But I don't hear you say it.
Dude I love your channel, that picture of herpo the fouls chocolate frog card was a blast to the past I loved that game.
Even Herpo would think Voldemort was nuts to create multiple Horcruxes. He himself never went beyond one.
Wow....You are the only UA-cam Channel on Harry Potter get the order of the Horcruxes correct. The Ring was made first then the Dairy after he had that conversation with Slughorn. Thanks great video!
Imagine if they made a book in Voldemort’s perspective called Voldemort and the search for his nose Lol
I am loving every minute of these videos!
These stories are addicting man keep them up 👌💯
There's a caption error somewhere around 8:12....
Is it just me ? I’ve had to resubscribe to this channel! I’m happy it comes in on my feed or else I wouldn’t know
Yes! I asked for this, thank you!

Albus Dumbledore : Here in your service bois.
Two things i got myself thinking about are what was Herpo horcrux vessel, and what happened to it. Also, how likely it is that the guy put it in the basilisk?
Is Herpo still alive or was his Horcrux destroyed in similar ways as Tom Riddle's were? If still a live, and if a few other dark wizards were able to create a horcrux also than the wizarding community is still in danger because of them.
dude i love your content i also love and watch star wars theory
Please make a video about wandlore and how to make a wand and what cores can be used
Thanks for teaching more in-depth knowledge of the wizarding world great vid 💯👍
one question I'd love the answer to that no one seems to address are if you find out an object is a horcrux is it possible to figure out whose soul is in it?
@@edopronk1303 i had an idea for a harry potter world story where an old horcrux was found inside a long forgotten gringotts vault. this was where I thought of this how do we know whos it is thing
What background music is this?
I love these Harry Potter theory’s
Amazing stuff HP theory
It would seem that the Harry Potter world is more rich in lore than I had previously imagined. I really like these videos where history, backgrounds etc. are discussed since they are not as common as the videos' that focus on the modern day wizarding community.
Also, I do remember this guy! Or at least his picture. Back in the days when I used to play the first two Harry Potter videogames...
It would be more appropriate to call it The Wizarding World and not the Harry Potter World, Harry is just the main character in this world.
@RabiyaRavenclaw you're right! Must've had some sort of, I dunno, memory lapse or something because on my files (music etc.) I do have the label Wizarding World.. 😅
Name of song?
Your videos are so good
Love your channels man 1st may the force be with you always
The name choice of Herpo is likely also derived from the Greek word herpetón, meaning “reptile” or “creeping animal.” The academic study of reptiles, amphibians, and snakes is called herpetology.
If I remember right theres a story of rowling telling the details of making a horcrux to a friend once and it made the friend actually sick. Thus one of the reasons only a few people will know about that secret
You kill someone
I had thought of this before as well- good thinking! Maybe I will make a video
@@HarryPotterTheory Oh, man! This makes me so happy to hear.
If you look thru these comments there's a comment high up by a Greek Guy who says that the Greek Translation of Herpo is literally "Slithering" without the letter G at the end because apparently Greeks don't enunciate it. So you may be right!
This channel is the best ! I always claimed to be a Potterhead but now I feel like a noob... 😂😅
It's huge fun for you and I'm enjoying then too keep it yo till you run out of dark wizards then do light then back to your usual videos which are also cool.
Can you please share the link of the bg music ?
That’s what I’ve been looking for
Hey man Great fan..I am just a bit curious as to from where do you get these folklores..??
None of them are even mentioned in the books
All of them are on the Pottermore website
Thnx buddy
Hi guys where do you get such infos? am quite interested in this characters :)
I have two questions that could be a video:
How wizards came to be ?
How dumbledore aged so much in 11 years from crimes of Grindelwald to memories of Tom Riddle ?
Maybe Grindelwald cursed him - maybe JKR can't count.
Movies. In the book it talks about how when Dumbledore first meets Tom Riddle he is wearing a purple suit and he like jaunty or whatever. Much younger. The movie dumbledore was meh. That actor was meh. I wish the first dumbledore didnt die.
From the perspective of young Tom Riddle, Dumbledore is some old dude so he looks old in Tom's memory.
I’d like to know more about the role of wizards during the Second World War. Did they play a role in the weather on D Day? Anything with the Holocaust etc.
Also. Any thoughts as to the Black Death being caused by an evil Wizard?
Why didn’t Voldemort make the basilisk a horcrux instead of nagini?
I mean it died anyway so what would it matter XD
Because he can't keep the basilisk with himself all the time. As it's huge and can be noticed by anyone easily. Secondly it will stun his deatheaters.. 😂
QUESTION: so if the dark magic book didnt specify how do create a horcrux then how did Tom Riddle?
He found the book in dumbys office.
Ok but tell me this - where do you get this all from? I mean, it's not like the books mention it. Or do they? I need information, cause I feel bad for not knowing all this in the first place.
pottermore/wizarding world website
Herpo - sounds infectious.
I'm actually working on a fan project of Herpo the Foul, how he created the Basilisk, the Horcrux and had a massive battle with a Greek Wizard, and faked his death so he could disappear without anyone being the wiser.
Chronologically it's the first project in my Fan HP Timeline
Everyone wonders how to make a horcrux, but I shudder to think what it takes to create a philosopher stone.
I like to think there are other (albeit very few) witches & wizards that have successfully created a horcrux, although Voldemort is the first to create more than one.
Did J.K. Rowling confirm that Herpo and Voldemort are the only ones to ever create one?
Me: *kills an ant and screams while looking at the sky*
Also me: *guess im immortal now*
Video added on my birthday.
This is a great video.
6:44 I THOUGHT IT WAS THE MUGGLE GARNDER FROM THE RIDLE HOUSE (I cant remember his name)
What is this music?
Was the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets first let out by Tom Riddle? If Salazar intended the basilisk to purge the school of muggles, was it let out soon after the creation of the chamber? It just seems strange that he wanted to purge the school of muggles, but he locked it away in a very _secret_ chamber.
And I've wondered this about horcruxes - do you have to murder someone and simultaneously weave some magic into the object intended to be the horcux, or does a horcux happen every time you murder someone?
Question. Can fiendfyre be used to repel dementors? Thanks.
I'm told that Salazar Slytgerin did not in fact create the Basilisk to purge the school, but simply to protect it in time of need.
Music?
But if Voldy wanted to originally creat 7 horcruxes and he didnt know Harry was one.. why didnt he create another? During the battle? Or was his soul to fragmented to create another?
I love you channel ❤️
Can you study dark magic as a good person?? or does the exposure to that knowledge corrupts you? (like Saruman learning about the ring)
So are horcruxes basically like a phylactery for a lich?
Love ur work
Wasn’t the original Parselmouth Paracelsus?
Herpo (Herpetos) means Reptile/Snake in Greek
I don't see him as a monster, but as a evil genius.
You posted this video on my birthday lol
