The Fire Lord is designed to look like an older, scarless version of Zuko.

The symbol on Aang's headband is a Fire Nation symbol meant to resemble a flame.
But Aang wears the symbol upside down so that it looks like his arrow tattoo.

I love the juxtaposition shown in that first episode between Hakoda and Ozai. Both fathers haven’t seen their kids in years. Hakoda couldn’t have expressed his love for Katara and Sokka and how much he had missed them anymore beautifully than he did. “I’d lay awake and night and miss you both so much it would ache” katara didn’t need to do anything to earn her father’s love, he gave it to her openly and told her how he felt.
Ozai on the other hand, only allows Zuko back home after banishing him in the first place because he thought Zuko killed Aang. He had to try and earn it. And during their reunion he comes off cold and emotionally indifferent to seeing his son for the first time in 3 years after having permanently scaried his son’s face. He doesn’t tell Zuko that he missed him or that he loves him, just goes on and on about what Zuko had to do in order for Ozai to even acknowledge him.
The dancing between Aang and Katara is called "Capoeira", a Brazilian martial art. It combines elements of kung fu, music, and dance.
It was actually invented by slaves as a way of teaching themselves to fight back against slave owners undetected, so they would think they were just dancing.
Someone should reeeeally make a big-budget movie about Capoeira.

Book 3 is by far my favorite not a single dud in the season I’m so excited for yall to experience it
I may be wrong, but I believe when Azula interrupted Zuko and Mai at sunset to tell "Dumb Dumb" to be careful about visiting Uncle Iroh, that she actually meant it and was genuinely trying to look out for him. I think it's one of the only two times in the series that we see her show genuine affection for him.
I disagree and agree. She's looking out for herself. She gives Zuko the credit for killing the Avatar. If he's still alive she doesn't have a bullseye on her back. Zuko does. But, Azula brought Zuko back into the fold. If Zuko is in cahoots with Iroh she looks bad. Zuko at this point is a wildcard. He's flipfloped multiple times in his life because he still is trying to please everyone. Even he doesn't know what he wants.
I think Azula is in fear of what Zuko might do, and there is no concern for him or anyone else save daddy. She drinks the poisonous Kool-aid daily , and it only makes her more resolute.

Mai and Zuko are underrated. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to appreciate them so much more and you can see how well they work together. Zuko is really struggling here, he is dealing with guilt of his decision, worried about Aang being alive and his uncle not talking to him. Yet the rare times we see him genuinely happy and smiling (all throughout the 3 books) is when he is with Mai. Childhood friends to lovers, I love them sm ❤
Unlike the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation is not one landmass.
The Fire Nation is actually an island chain similar to Japan.

It was 100% to write him out of the show and it's played entirely for laughs but I like to think the main goal of Kuei's (the Earth King) journey was to make him more worldly, less naive. He'd been a puppet ruler since taking the throne at a very young age (hence Long Feng having true power as an "advisor") and he obviously felt terrible when he learned the truth.

The scenes when Zuko is talking to Iroh in prison are really interesting. They show things from Iroh's perspective, so that it looks like it's Zuko who's behind bars, and Iroh is free. It's meant to show us how Zuko struggles with right and wrong, with his need for the Fire Lord's love and approval, and how that makes him feel trapped.
The Fire Nation Oath was written almost a hundred years ago.
The oath was commissioned by Fire Lord Sozin, and it's titled "The March to Civilization".

Our gang first visited Crescent Moon island in the episode, "Winter Solstice, Part 2".
In that episode, Avatar Roku destroyed one of the island temples, and the lava still flows from that event.

it's important to know that the whole "you need to let go" was purposely poorly handled for drama and stakes. Guru pathik didn't explain the idea of letting go very well. He didn't not mean you can't love, be in love, or have a family etc, as an avatar. It meant, that you should not let that love(along with the other negative feelings he dealt with in that episode) get in the way of being the avatar. You need to know when to let go of something so you can move on and grow. Your chakras need to be constantly flowing, and when you let those feelings drag you down, they can become blocked again.
Exactly. The Avatar was meant to sit amongst the people of all nations, look for the path to balance and justice, and walk that path despite anything else. You can't remain beholding to family, loves, friends, or a group of people. They are truth and balance, and those concepts don't care about your feelings. It's a hard and often lonely road.
Roku allowed his friendship for Sozin cloud his judgement and the world plunges into 100 years of war. He even admits it to Aang in this episode. Being human while having the powers of a god is rough.
The dancing that the kid does at 29:44 was actually done by one of the crew members that worked on avatar. They recorded a video of him dancing and sent it to the animators to be edited into the show
The Bosco and Earth King story was made into a comic.

Aang with hair is so weird but fun, the whole point of airbenders shaving is so they can more astutely feel air currents (although we see many female airbenders with full heads of hair, their hairline is just shaved back to show their mastery arrow tattoo on the forehead). I’m so excited for you guys to get to the finale, but there are such amazing episodes in the mean time as well that you’ll love!
Comparing the conversations between Katara and her dad, and Ozai and Zuko just makes it so clear how unfeeling the Fire Lord is.

Katara needed to stop tripping on her father. There was a whole war going on for an entire century. He had to be called to war
Give her a break. She literally said "I understand why you left"... she knows perfectly well there's a war going on. But guess what, sometimes when it comes to heavy emotions, there's no rationalizing them away. She's happy he's back in her life but it's also a reminder that he did technically "choose" to leave and fight in the war. She never really dealt with those hurt feelings since she had to grow up so quick and take on so much responsibility in her parents absense.

Her attitude and bitterness was way overboard, it just seemed like she was swallowing her pride instead of acknowledging what needed to be done. She can't tell him nothing about staying or going when she was quick to drop everything and ditch her home and her grandmother to go train in waterbending at the Northern Water Kingdom
@@rogueryder3285 Hence, why she said she understands why he left, she knows that it had to be done, just as she knows that she needed to leave to pursue her destiny. Regardless of the reason or situation, he was an absentee parent for years and he left when she was very young, it hurt her deeply and it lingered around as she got older. Was it overboard? Perhaps, but again especially when you are young, sometimes you can't rationalize your emotions away. She forgives him and lets go of those feeling right there, which is what she really needed all along.
@@lightningg252 point being, if she understood, there was no need to verbally attack him in the first place. I understand the stress they were all under, but Katara's biggest flaw is she's a drama queen
She's just a child though. Only 14 here and was even younger when he left. Trauma is trauma. She has every right to have negative feelings about her father leaving in times of war. And now that she's matured some, she does realize that she can let go after voicing her feelings and all is forgiven.
