      You didn't mention anything about the dog whistle on the album? The idea of a bunch of people listening to the album and all of a sudden the dog starts whining or tilting it's head all confused. "He does that every time the album gets to that part. I don't know what it is." lol

      See also: Parliament-Funkadelic, the Grateful Dead (Captain Trips, Reddy Kilowatt etc), and Phish. Must be something in the acid lol - granted you can argue none of these bands are perfect including the Beatles, but I think it sticks with the theme of being SO perfect that they had to invent an alter ego (I'm sure the acid had nothing to do with it it though lol). I believe Primus did this at one point too but I could be wrong.
      Although all these bands were certainly inspired by the Beatles, it's worth noting that the Grateful Dead assumed their own alter egos almost a year before Sgt Pepper's was released. Or maybe it's not worth noting, but I noted it regardless.

I'll be the first to admit that George's songs on Abbey Road are the best on the album and two of the greatest songs ever written ('Here comes the Sun' & 'Something')... but apart from 'Taxman' his early stuff was rubbish and should never have been included on any Beatles records.

      Lee McDaid - Donegal 60fps I agree that compared to Paul and John, George’s songs weren’t as great especially since he didn’t have a lot of liberty writing them, but c’mon his songs are not rubbish! You’re totally alowed not like some Beatles songs, it doesn’t make you a fake fan, but don’t go commenting on a Beatles video saying a certain Beatles song is rubbish. Also George is my favourite member so you bet I’m going to get defensive about this. Please no one come at me or reply lol. I’m not trying to start drama.

      People say this is the greatest album ever made, and I can see why. However, I just feel that this mostly set Rock and Roll away from its original purpose for entertainment and rebellion, and more into the Kubrick-esque side of things. Honestly, I think The Velvet Underground and Nico is a much better Rock album than this. I just consider Sgt Pepper to be just a genreless album.
      And before you bash me, I will say what my favourite 60s albums are:
      The Doors- The Doors
      The Velvet Underground and Nico
      The Jimi Hendrix Experience- Are You Experienced
      Pink Floyd- Piper At The Gates of Dawn
      The Beatles- White Album
      Least favourite 60s albums:
      Cream-Disraeli Gears
      Any album Jefferson Airplane ever made

However, while Revolver was received with some degree of confusion and dismissal by fans and critics alike, Sgt. Pepper's was almost universally embraced.

    • @carl_anderson9315
      @carl_anderson9315 4 роки тому +5

      Charles Kuckel I think by that time, they did’t understand the kind of achievement they were doing because Paul revolutionized the production process. Before 1966 the recordings consisted on the band members just playing their parts, and putting them together and that’s it. Sgt Pepper and Pet Sounds started to involve more experimental sounds, loops, samples, etc. No wonder why Ringo and George got so bored. However, to me the big irony is that in my opinion, some of the greatest masterpieces were made by John and George: Lucy in the sky, Mr. Kite, Within You Without You. So, it was maybe more boring for them to record but precisely the recording techniques applied made the album their most ambitious work.

      Bryon Epstein was against the Beatles doing a concept album, he wanted to stick with the formula that had been working. That was one of the problems with Pop bands, they tried to put formula songs on new albums so fans would buy them. Formula songs were radio play songs. By 1966 the Beatles were sick of touring and weren't going to do it anymore. The music business and record stores put all their albums on close out sale, they thought they had run its course and were going to be has beens.
      The other thing that was significant is that the Beatles had made so much money that they could AFFORD to spend 700 hours in the recording studio. It was unheard of back in the dark ages.
      Another note worth mentioning was that Paul thought they should stick with the Concept album theme and he decided they should do a road trip in a big bus with all their friends from other bands. That was the Magical Mystery Tour. The Album was OK musically, but the Bus Tour was a nothing burger. Nothing interesting happened. Not all of Paul's ideas were creative, the band didn't care for Paul calling all the shots.

    There was this rumor floating around in the late 60s that Paul McCartney was dead and if you opened the Sargent Pepper's album to the lyric section inside, you would see a photo of the Fab Four, but Paul was standing with his back towards the camera. If you look to Paul's left, George Harrison's has his finger pointing towards the lyric line "Wednesday morning at five O'clock..." The story was that somewhere embedded in the album there was a secret phone number. If you found it, you were to call on Wednesday morning at Five O'clock and someone would tell you the time and place of Paul's funeral... Genius marketing in my book!

    There is something I have always found so ironic: the generation of youth at the time this masterpiece was released is the same generation that are now the architects of political power and corruption. You are right and wrong at the same time....see If I can explain. I am of that generation and remember it well despite the saying "...If you remember sixties, you were not there..." As it was often said, those years witnessed a huge change in attitude in young people, sick and tired of the consequences of second World War like poverty,lack of vitualy everything, the colorless age of fifties, in short, an incredible monotony and darkness of the era. Young people felt restless, disillusioned and living in fear of threats of the new wars ( Korea, Vietnam, A-bombs, etc...) and needed a new hope, new and tolerant attitude among people in general. Yet it seemed politicians were getting involved more and more into the politics of war....apparently, it's a good business!!!!(???) Out of that desperation, we, the young people, a people with dreams for better life , " live and let live " attitude, needed to somehow break out of that STUPID circle. " Make love,not war! " became the message of that era, hippies arrived, alternative way of life and spirituality became more apparent and lot of young people went with it thinking that we will change the world for the better. A lot of those new ideas were naive or completely wrong. However, I can only call it " youthful delusions " that were nevertheless not all that bad and have changed the world of music, fashion, art, attitudes towards spirituality etc.etc....and then....we grew up and realised that politics have never changed, and even though politicians were more fashion and image conscious, they haven't stop lying to this day. I can only compare it to a " woke" generation and youth of today : when I listen to the arguments they make about socialism, BLM, peacful protesters that burn houses, kill police or anyone that disagries with them while trying to "rewrite the history" and all the nonsense about LGBT-blah- blah community, political crrectess and so on - I'm just about to vomit...And...Yes, my generation was naive and somewhat silly but we grew up realising that the new "woke" generation is down wright dangerous!!!! Ummm.. We were the Counter Culture. The majority were "Straight s", it wasn't everyone who lived the Hippie lifestyle. We were vilified and ridiculed, but still managed to make some changes to the evil world. You have to realise that in the sixties there were no rights for women, racial segregation, total environmental rape, very little social services,V ietnam war in full swing... I could go on. We were able to make a lot of changes, and though it wasn't enough, the world would be a worse place without our protests and efforts for change. There would be no equal rights, no rainforests left at all, no whales, no nuclear non proliferation treaty.We tried our best, but we were always a minority. As an old person now I'm proud to be one of the youth movement activists of the 60s and 70s. We were arrested, vilified, beaten up and nearly run over by bulldozers at various protests. We were always the small voice crying out against injustice. This world is run by evil people, so come on all you young people and stand up for your rights and for the Planet, because the generations that came after us were mainly into consumerism. We need a new awakening of Cosmic Consciousness. Peace and Love.

    The reason for Henry the Horse was because the name of the horse on the original poster Lennon found in an antique shop, was Xanthus. You can Google up an image of this poster and check for yourself...
    Xanthus the Horse was too much of a mouthful to sing. The alliteration of Henry and Horse was an obvious easy option. It could have been Billy, Gary, Kenny or any name you can think of to go before Horse. They just chose Henry. Maybe a subconscious nod to H, but we'll never know...

    John Lennon did not use heroin until 1968, and Yoko introducing him to it. She and Tony Cox { her 2nd husband at th time } we're users. I don't understand the rolling of the eyes with the understatement " he did use it a little bit." A little bit became almost too much, and we're lucky he didn't die before they were over in September 1969.
    He mentioned in later interviews that " Rubber Soul " was their " pot " album, and " Revolver " their LSD album. The others had their influences. But thanks for posting.

    Can I just say, I’ve wondered this whole time, so it’s obvious that John’s suit is green, Ringo’s is pink and Paul’s is blue. So, is George’s suit red or orange? Because I’ve seen in some media it being red, and in others it’s orange, and I’m honestly so confused.

    A little known, or at least rarely mentioned fact about this album…
    Paul took a lot of the inspiration for it from pink floyd, and more specifically Sid Barrett, who were still unsigned but were a huge underground band and lead the the London psychedelic movement at the time. Paul was a big fan and would watch them live. Inspiration for the sound of the album as well as visual style such as the costumes came from seeing pink floyd in concert in 65/66.
    Not so difficult to believe when you consider that other big fans and friends of floyd at the time included The who and Hendrix who also performed on the same bill as pink floyd several times before the release of Are you experienced.

    • @robbarbieri8676
      @robbarbieri8676 2 роки тому

      Well, Pink Floyd couldn't have been unsigned at the time that the Beatles were recording Sgt Pepper, as they were at Abbey Road recording their first album at the time. It is even mentioned in Hunter Davies authorized biography, "The Beatles", published in 68, that "the Pink Floyd" visited them in the studio. Perhaps you mean that Paul saw them prior to Floyd being signing.

    • @robbarbieri8676
      @robbarbieri8676 2 роки тому

      Ian Davies my apologies, I reread you post, and I saw you mentioned that Paul would have seen them 65/66, so Floyd would have been unsigned at that point. Perhaps Paul had something to do with getting them a record deal. I have always read he recommended Hendrix for the Monterey Pop Festival, as Paul was on the board of directors for the festival.

    • @iandavies7991
      @iandavies7991 2 роки тому

      @@robbarbieri8676 possibly but Floyd were a massive deal already. They had a huge following. The only reason there was a delay in getting a record deal was the record companies wondering how they’d make a pop record out of them. Their live set was mostly 20 min improv with a couple of minutes of psychedelic pop structure in there. What you hear on piper is just a really diluted version of what they were. Hence Syd Barrett hating it and choosing to get fucked off his face instead of contributing,
      what an amazing time in history 1967 was though! The best year in music and probably cultural history
