  • A solo overnight camping in the rain with a vintage canvas tent, Polish Lavvu, combined with a plash palatka (thank you, Swedwoods). I setup the lavvu complete with a POMOLY T Perspective stove. I make a steak dinner at the campfire. The next day is started raining early for most of the day. We go on a hike to collect water and see the fall weather.

    Great video Brother. A lot like my day yesterday. I didn't stay overnight because the trip was supposed to be just putting deer cams out. After only getting two out of five set, the rain came and I spent 5 hours under a tarp trying to keep dry. Of course I had fire and some coffee to help pass the time and make for an enjoyable day. Keep it up Bro, we really enjoy it.

I bought them years ago two for 29 bucks from the sportsmans guide and someone literally stole them! I was crushed! Costed a hundred by the time I replaced them they got so popular. When we were grade school kids (7 of us) we would take my dad's poncho and put it over our winter coats during blizzards and go to neighbors houses and shovel them out the poncho made it so our coats did not get soaked or wet and kept the wind from us feeling it we could be outside most of the day wearing it

    Always a pleasure to watch, Jess. Keep doing what you’re doing.
    The debate continues to roll on about the merits of a stacked wood fire “reflector”. I personally don’t think they do anything but dry out wet firewood. Maybe a bit of a wind break too. They absorb some thermal mass but nothing that I can quantify. Always willing to hear others take on it though. What do you think? Cheers bud!

      @calebspears8694 2 роки тому

      I’ve never used one, but now that you mention it there’s times I’d wished I had a decent wind break and one or even two of these would have taken the edge off for sure.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 роки тому +1

      @@calebspears8694 I like to stack larger and longer pieces and form a oven/windbreak around a smaller fire. It makes a long burning, self sustaining fire by having the larger slow burning fuel restrict some of the air flow to the smaller faster burning material. Crossing the logs allows the fire to “cut” them into smaller pieces.

    I'm trying to not have the synthetics for camping going wood and canvas is so much better. Especially in New England where its wet, cold, raw and damp. But its heavy as you know! So I'm being very creative with it. I made a wool cover for my klymit insulated static v out of a wool coat I got for a dollar at a thrift store. Sorry Calvin Klein. And I now have a long wool and I can double as a blanket. I made a canteen cover out of it as well. Stuff gets heavy but its worth it. Cheers

      Thats awesome Joanne! A wool canteen cover is on my list of projects as well. I used to feel the same about the wool and canvas, but gotta say, I am finding a lot of value in some of the modern mil surp. There is definitely a trade off in performance, weight and resilience.
