- Solo overnighter in the woods camping in the rain with WW2 gear. Soviet plash palatka and Czech plash palatka formed my shelter, an A-frame style tent next to my campfire. I cooked a ribeye for dinner and did some carving on my wooden kuksa. In the morning I baked bannock bread for breakfast, just before the rain.
My clothing for this trip is the Russian Partizan M. I will do a full review in the next few days. It is an excellent option for fall or spring weather. Dual sided camouflage suit for full body masking. Ideal for archery or spring turkey.

Thanks for watching everyone! The suit I am wearing is the Partizan M from Russian Cold Camo. Full review on the way. Check it out here: russiancoldcamo.com/collections/suits-1/products/sso-suit-partizan-ss-summer-2
Watching you reminds me of the few times I was able to solo for 2 or 3 days. I'm 76 now, but I can still get out there. Going thru my pack as I watch your video. All your videos are done well and enjoyable. Thanks.
There's 20 minutes of my life not wasted right here.
Brilliant stuff.
Zero nonsense.
Great video.
Thank you, Michael! Much appreciated.
Thank you, Michael! Much appreciated.
Jess my friend, I so enjoy your videos! Keeping it simple, gear that the average man or beginner can afford. Very nice 🤠
Thanks Herb! Much appreciated my friend! The gear is definitely not the deciding factor for enjoying time outside. Some of my best trips have been with “bargain bin” gear. Have a good one!
Nice bushcraft camp, the bread looked good. I really like vintage gear. Alan R.
Thanks Alan! Appreciated
GRACIAS POR ESTE VIDEO SIN MUCHAS PALABRAS Y SIN MUCHOS INSTRUMENTOS ESTE SEÑOR SE PLANTEA LA VIDA Y PIENSO QUE HASTA LARGO PLAZO ME QUITO EL SOMBRERO Y GRACIAS
There is no school like the old school 😉 I love good old military gear, which is made to stay in shape for decades. Thanks Jess!
One more thing. You eat outdoors like a champ 😋
@@KT_survival Thanks brother! Much appreciated! Old school kit rules.
Cozy little shelter. Hearing that rain on the tarp is good napping conditions.
Great video, thanks again. Be well
Thanks brother. Always appreciated. Have a good one.
Great video..like the common sense and efficient way you set up camp..always getting new ideas from you. Thanks!!! 👍👍👍
Like the Skrama, is also one of my favorite tool, thanks for sharing this relaxing video, very nice autumn atmosphere, take care, Taro
Thank you, Taro! The Skrama is truly excellent. It has been a most welcome addition. Thanks for watching!
Best, Jess
Steak and Baked Potato, Great stuff Jess. Mil Surp. just can't beat it for durability and usefulness. Enjoyed the video very much. Keep on stayin in the woods. I watch em all.
Thanks Bobby! Much appreciated!
Nice place 👌👍👏☺
Great simple setup Jess. Just goes to show you don't need too much to get out in the woods, have an effective shelter, warm fire and good eats. Really enjoyed watching my friend. Take care and have a great week Jess!
Thank you, Martin! It really doesn’t take much to get out there and enjoy. Have a good one brother!
Scary not moving away leaves near the fire. Love the vids. Thanks for the work
Awesome shelter build as always Jess. Like the wood “A Frame” . So peaceful out there in the woods . Good for the soul.
Thank you Kris! Brother, I got the article written (finally)! I need to get a couple photos together and then sending it in. Thanks for keeping me on it.
@@EnduranceRoom excellent
If it ain’t raining we ain’t training
The colors of the tent sheet look great, of course, i just wished for a little more orange in the camouflage pattern. 😎👍
Excellent time out in the woods, the colors on those trees is changing, winter is coming for sure!
Thanks! Yes indeed. It is moving in fast.
Great Jess!!!👏👏👏👏👌
Thank you my friend! Much appreciated! 🌲🌲🌲🌲
Perfect Fall Set Up Jess
Thank you, Manfred!
Amazing as usual , looks like a blast
Thank you, Don! Appreciate it. Cheers
Just found your channel. Good stuff, simple, I like it!!
Thanks! Cheers
Very very nice. I like it a lot, you are great. I'm following🖐️👍👏
Thank you! Cheers
Great campout and shelter build Jess. Looks like a very relaxing time out there.
Thanks Jeff! Appreciate it. Have a great week my friend.
@@EnduranceRoom Thanks,you too
Great video Jesse. I love that alpine camo . Always a pleasure to watch ppl just relaxing
Thank you, Tom! I really dig that camo, too. Its a German swamp pattern. Great for fall and spring.
Excellent!
Thanks Woods! Much appreciated sir!
The sounds of the earth talking, the smell, the simple primitive setting and good forest food is the life brother! Thank you for sharing my friend.🤙🤝🤙
Thanks Brother. Much appreciated as always! 👊🌲
Great video!
Thanks David!
Sweet Kuksa man keeping it simple but still pulled off a feast I'm digging it!!😁✌💚
Thanks brother! It has been a fun project working on that cup. I need to let it dry out for awhile before working it down anymore to prevent cracking. Cheers
Very enjoyable Jessie, thanks for sharing.
Thanks JJ! Appreciate it
What a coincidence! I'm watching while ALSO camping in the rain! Thanks for sharing!
Have a good one!
Awww yeah, getting some action with the Skrama! I love mine.
Definitely! These things rock!
Great video 📹👍
Thank you Marissa! Appreciate it.
Làm ca bin đơn giản thế này thì có gió thổi qua là nó toang luôn, nhưng lại co động nhanh
Thanks for a great video Jess! I think I need a camo plash palatka now. I need to get my carving tools out and carve a new kuksa. That Thrunite lantern is pretty cool. Thanks for the review on that also. The veshmeshok is a really cool pack. I've been thinking of ordering one.
Thanks Pat! That thrunite is awesome. Definitely getting lots of use out of it. I like veshmeshok. Its funky and has character, but it also super light and can be thrown into a larger pack for a day bag.
@@EnduranceRoom I've enjoyed my plash palatka since you did a review of them, as well as my polish bread bag. I've mostly used them in the backyard, and now am ready to put them to more of a real world test. Keep up the awesome and inspiring videos!
@@TheVerbiousOne Thank you, Pat! Really appreciate that. Get some woods time!
Good Evening Jess ..
Simple Basics .. solid stuff 👍.
Yep, I'm a sucker for Military Surplus Gear. Nothing 'fanci-pants' and for the most part, within reach of many budgets and built to last.
I haven't seen a Veshmeshok 'used in anger' in a while now .. also the NVA? Satchel .. and the Skrama is really earning it's keep 😊.
Have seen plenty reviews on the above-mentioned .. but it appears that many You Tube 'Reviewers' merely use the items to in order to Post something and then such items are relegated to wherever and never used again. Its good to see You Tubers like yourself who 'walk the talk'.
Thanks for the share .. until next time, take care .. stay safe .. Tommy
Thanks, Tommy! I have been bringing the veshmeshok out with me folded up in my pack. It is pretty lightweight and easy to stow away. The satchel is an East German buttpack. Really enjoy the Skrama.I like to rotat stuff in and out, but it has been quite useful. Have a good one!
@@EnduranceRoom 👍 .. East German Butt Pack .. thanks. Must take a look-see at that.
Really like that big knife, starting to approach Philippine bolo dimensions. We use bolos for everything
It has been a really great addition. I never found use for something like this until moving up here.
A pleasure to watch . Just being in the woods savoring the sights and sounds. Looked like a pretty warm fire you had going while you were carving. Have a great evening
Thanks brother. It was a good night to be outside. Glad you enjoyed. Have a good one
Awesome video as always.
Love the suit. Got mine from Russia a couple of years ago after Lars from Survival Russia came up with these. Just had to buy it! Its very clever made and the Eichenlaub camo ist just perfect!
I have this one and a gorka.
Perfect for bushcraft, fishing and stuff.
Steak looked so sexy 😍
Would love to see a Feuerhand kerosene lantern in your camp, would fit so good... On that veshmeshok Ruck too 😉
Greetings, GR 🤘🏻
Thanks GR! Lars has some great videos for sure. I really dig this suit. Very well made and the camo, both sides, is outstanding. I will think about the lantern. We might have one floating around the cabin. Cheers!
Cheers Brother!
🍻
Love army surplus gear
Me too. Long lasting, functional and has character.
Love that backpack! I’ve been looking at that backpack for about a year and a half now. I might pull the trigger one day. Already have two rucksacks and Bushcraft Satchel
I have 2 veshmoshock packs. Simple but very good packs. And this is from a tubby.
@@OKBushcraft The simple design is what I keep coming back to
Does the Czech shelter half match up perfectly to the plash palatka?
I've been thinking of getting a Romanian camo shelter half.
I love being in the woods in the rain. Very peaceful.
I didn’t check the button holes, but the grommets were perfect. The Czech palatka is a bit lighter and it overlapped the Soviet version perfectly. The Romanian capes look nice.
💯💪
I a right to assume that you are using an East German shoulder bag which is different from the assault pack? Anyway, awesome video, as always.
Thank you, Martin! It is an East German buttpack that I clipped a shoulder strap onto. Makes a decent haversack.
@@EnduranceRoom Good idea.
👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
Great outing. Excellent video. Was the shrug of the shoulders in regards of the bannock bread, or the incoming rain I heard? How did you seal the two tarps at the ridge? Did weave some paracord between the grommets??
Take care!
Thanks! The rain. The tarps overlapped perfectly. The Czech palatka is a bit lighter and just waxed. I usually do run paracord, but it wasn’t necessary. Cheers
Another fine video Jess.👌l notice your using a veshmeshok pack; what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks Thorn! I like it. Its old and funky, but surprisingly comfortable and super lightweight. I like to roll it up and throw it in my main pack to have for walking around after camp is set
@@EnduranceRoom cheers Jess, I may have to pick up one.👍
🤘
Hey Jesse what size is your elephant skin I've been needing to get one to go with all my surplus gear??
They are about 3.5’x7’
Its just enough ground cover for a sleeping bag. Nice kit though.
@@EnduranceRoom yeah totally, perfect to protect those expensive sleeping pads also and it's better than my tyvek pieces for ground sheets haha😁✌💚
How comfortable or uncomfortable was that veshmeshok to carry? It looks like you had it pretty loaded.
It carries really well for as thin as straps are. It just needs to be packed carefully. I had my wool blanket positioned so it was against my back. They are great little bags for what they are. Nice to take along inside a larger pack as a day bag.
Where abouts do you live? Did you complete any of the Pathfinder skills classes? Just curious.
Upstate, NY in the Adirondacks. I did intermediate and advanced a couple years ago. It was good training with Gray Bearded Green Beret and Corporals Corner.
@@EnduranceRoom hell yeah. Keep it up buddy.
Just got a plash palatka and I really love it so far. Very versatile piece of gear. Do you find that it's pretty rain resistant?
Resistant, definitely. You can wax them with fixing wax (2 parts beeswax, 1 part coconut oil) and it will improve performance (and make it look nice) 👍
@@EnduranceRoom thanks for the advice. I do have some snow seal, I wonder if that might work in its place?
@@cmargheimable I would go with the wax. Its easy to do. Heat it with a hair drier and rub it in. Makes a nice patina.
@@EnduranceRoom can you offer a video or link to the toggle system on the roycroft frame?
@@cmargheimable I make a roycraft frame in this video: ua-cam.com/video/dW3ZwM2NBHY/v-deo.html
It is quite simple once you have the frame, to add the toggles, 2 on each side, 2 on the bottom should be enough to lash on a load. I tie mine with an arbor knot or Canadian jam knot.
Man, rake all those leaves inside the shelter for a matress!
I have demonstrated multiple versions of browse beds many times on this channel.
I was just kidding, not criticizing. There were a lot of leaves.
How do you deal with ticks
I usually just pop em off with my knife or dig them out with a needle. You have about 24hrs to get them out. If you fail to remove them fully, it could be slightly annoying. Raw meat diet can help heal LD. I got over it in a couple weeks only eating steak, good butter and raw milk. I talked about it in an earlier video
@@EnduranceRoom thanks I occasionally watch your videos and figured you had talked about this before. Yeah I plan on moving up to Kentucky and was worried about lyme. Cool stuff I have we want to live by Aajonus.
Over here we wrap our ankle and leg areas with ductape with the adhesive facing outward, catches lots of ticks. Try to avoid brushing against the tips of vegetation, they instinctively position themselves on leaf tips and twig ends
@@danalim9670 cool idea
@@ferrret1 just pull off any chipmunks that get stuck on the ductape
