PSA: How To Properly Lube Your Striker-Fired Pistol
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- Properly lubricating your semi-auto pistol is critical for proper function. Knowing what lube to use, where to apply the lube, and, perhaps even more importantly, where NOT to apply lube is covered in this video. Apex's Scott Folk walks you through the process of lubricating your semi-auto striker-fired pistol the right way.

Best video I have seen for lubricating a striker fired pistol. Thanks!
Thanks very much.
Oh my goodness, thank you SO much !!! Finally a logical, easy to understand discussion of how and where to lube striker-fired pistols! My gun manuals completely suck at instructing where to lube. I admit I was doing it wrong, and will correct it now. Definitely putting this in the playlist.
Glad you like it.
Finally, a good video that is easy to understand the topic AND the speaker. Great info, and no begging for subscribing and bell notifications.
Great video, thanks! Yours is the only one ive come across that didn't slather the rails of the slide in lube. In fact every other video I saw did not lube the lower, only the slide and allll over the barrel
Huh, been lubing the slide and the barrel wrong this whole time. Thanks Apex!
Thank You Apex !
I completely agree on the areas of lubrication. That being said i use 5W-20 with a arts and crafts needle applicator for my guns. Never had any issues even with regular high usage.

I am so grateful for this succinct, informative video. No nonsense. Just where to put oil. I've been shooting two years and clean pretty good, I think, but I knew I didn't reaaaally know where to lube correctly. Now I do! THANK YOU!
Watched right before lubing my hellcat for the first time. Thank you so much! Saved my hellcat from over-lubing.
Awesome. Glad it helped.
Great video Scott! We posted this for our Community on Arms Directory - very helpful.
Nice informative video on how to lube your pistols. Thanks Scott!
"a little bit of oil" "don't over lubricate" you were drenching that frame! 😀Needle applicators work best.
We do have a tiny bit of experience with this.
@@apextactical Not saying you don't. You have a lot of experience I'm sure. But come on, are my eyes lying to me? When oil is flowing down the side, that's not a little oil.
Quit ur whinnin!!!
@@highball7347 👍
@@baseballlife5884 You're educating Apex? 😂😂😂
Great info. Thank you very much.
Tank you so much for a great video!
What about extractors? Should they be run bone dry? Will even a light coating attract debris?
Scott, when are you going to make a video about your FN 509 Longslide? I saw the prototype on one of Talon Sei's videos when he was at a show. I asked him who was the manufacturer of that Longslide and he said Apex. I can't recall what show it was. I pre-ordered mine already and I'd love to see a video.
Scott, does it really matter if I oil the whole rail if I'm using a dry lube? I won't lube the vent hole.
Very nice!
Do you ever grease your slide rails?
Glock manual says to lube slide rails
I've run Q tips or cleaning patch with a dab of CLP or oil for many years; Glocks, M&Ps, PDP models. I use Slip 2000 EWL or Clenzoil brands mostly. I'd agree, you don't need to douse or soak semi auto uppers in gun oils, CLPs. Just the points that see contact or wear.
How the hell did this 3yr old vid on oiling my pistol get in my suggestions??? Yea I watched it, I guess my pistols would be considered “over oiled”, but they are well oiled, I don’t have oil on me after shooting, they never have a malfunction, and no surface rust. I guess I’m doing something right. Good video Apex, I love your products by the way, lol.
I would take away that a well oiled firearm is better than a dry firearm.
Great video and great information
Thanks for video!
I noticed Lucas drys up pretty damn fast
Do I lubricante the main gun spring?and do people lubricant mags springs ?
On the gun, only what you saw. Mag springs don't need it. I've been firing the same Glock mags for almost 35 years and not a drop of lube in the mags.
Scot Great video. How about a CZ where the guide is the bottom rail? Thanks
Don’t oil the slide or do? You said to only live the frame but then when pointing out lubrication areas on the frame you said to lubricate the slide in that same area.
bearing grease works well too ...lol
How about another detail, How often? Is there something I should look for to tell me if it needs to be lubed?
Thanks for the info.
Clean it when it's dirty, re-oil. If it's not dirty, but components are dry, re-oil
Thank you.
just what I wanted to know, Thank you....
When are the threaded barrels for the SDVE coming back in stock been trying to get my hands on one?
They are being worked on now. Not 100% sure where they are in the production process. Keep checking back.
@@apextactical thank, just ordered one!
I didn't know better at the time and I put oil inside the slide, how do i get it clean now so it doesn't collect debris?
You'll need to remove the striker from the slide and use a cotton swab to clean things out.
@@apextacticalnot to be a hater but I belive on a r.a.p 440 you are meant to lube the slide because I did lube the slide and the slide was smooth with a slight grab half way through the cocking action. but seen this comment and then dried my slide then lubed the spots you said to and now it’s grabbing harder half way through
@Mango-xr1ow I don't know what a R.a.p. 440 is, but some guns may require more lube than we show in this video.
Bottom line is, make sure to lube it or it won't run.
When you say disconnect notches, is this the magazine disconnect safety you are talking about?
Hi!
I just subed to your channel.
Questions...What if I over lubed the gun...How can I reverse the process?
Do I dip everything in alcohol then place oil or grease in the points you mentioned?
Thanks
Disassemble it and clean it like you normally would. Oil in the striker channel is the big concern. That you need to be sure is kept clean and dry (from lube).
Lube the heck out of it wipe excess off run the Hell out of it. If you handle my guns you’re gonna get oil and grease on ya. But I never ever have malfunctions!! Just the way I’ve done it for almost 40 years it’s never failed me or caused any issues and zero rust.
Yep same here I bathe my guns and oil and grease
How about a Glock ? I'm surprised you didn't include the Glock as they're very popular. Thanks. Enjoyed your video.
Pretty sure this general lubrication process work across all striker-fired guns, as noted in the video.
I use regular white lithium grease on the rails.
Shiiit. In the army we just basically put that lubricant everywhere
Do one for hammers.
Great video and thank you! Let me go ahead and remove the extra extra lube I got all over all my firearms 🥴😂
Hoppes here. I'm guilty as hell of over lubing.
Why can't we just lubricate the whole slide from the inside?
Read the owners manual
What happens if you over lubricate
You get oil on your hands.
How do you feel about Frog Lube?
Great stuff just make sure to follow the directions from FrogLube I use FrogLube for the barrel and Lucas for everything else
I think it’s crazy how most of us will sit here and comment on this video telling them they over lubricated but then first of all even if they did they probably take that gun apart each damn time and remove any oil that’s in the frame the main goal is to not get any in the firing pin channel other than that the lubrication won’t hurt and most of these comments here say Glock says to oil the slider rails the same a Glock and I know what you’re thinking door yeah sure it is but I’ve Glock is a lot loose compared to FN that has tighter tolerance Keep it up eight pics you guys won’t be around if you guys didn’t know what you were doing
Why do we lube the frame and not the slide? Well, that’s bc we lubricate the frame and not the slide😂
Just put a funnel into the barrel and pour your bacon grease innit..fire away🤫
If you have ever seen the video of guys dropping guns in motor oil and firing them flawlessly, you would say that you cannot over lubricate.
How would you recommend cleaning a pistol after a coke spilled completely through it..
Asking for a friend
good vid but you use way too much oil
Thank you for your input, but the collective experiences of Scott and Randy say otherwise.
@@apextactical fair enough
GLOCK???
Glocks are not so unique that they require an entirely different lubrication process.
Many polymer pistols are just glock clones. Should be the same.
You put enough oil on there to deep fry French fries.
2:28 "you can cause a hydraulic cylinder". Perhaps he meant to say "hrydolock"? Hydolock may be possible in a perfect environment, the vent hole being blocked would certainly affect the function of the striker, but, blocking the vent hole doesn't create a hydraulic cylinder. However, if a incorrect or this is juat a basic computer generated A.I. system for clicks, im always open to turning my hanguns into wood splitters.
