That’s the issue with top tier premiums. It’s not necessarily the pay to win aspect, it’s the fact that the skill level is somehow lower up top than it is in the mid levels.

I think there’s a substantial veteran playerbase that likes propellers more than jets so you’ll get some absolute hawks in each mid/high tier propeller match that can notice every mistake of a learning player and just punish the bejeebus out of them. I’ve got 3 nations right around the cusp of jets, with 3 American jets unlocked thus far and I’m able to perform 2-3x better in all early jet matches than in turbo-props despite only playing maybe 30-40 matches with a jet and hundreds with props

you can buy an xp-50 and just kinda destroy people, you can buy an f4s and get smacked out of the sky and have no idea what you did wrong. Jets is a whole different playstyle.
I skipped myself to top tier with air as I don't like air but wanted to test what it feels like fly a jet in realistic battles but saw one problem "stock" it's so slow to get better that only shoots planes with 2 missiles, yes I use spin tactics I know how to deflect but I have not enough weapons for long trip.
