I got my American Performer in honeyburst about a month ago and I absolutely love it. It’s my first high end electric guitar and single coil pickups are such a breath of fresh air after playing my trusty Gretsch double jet with its humbuckers.
I LOVE the vintage tuners. Easiest to string, just cut the string two pegs further (about 5cm), stick in the hole and bend it, wind it up and your on your way. Also eliminates the sharp string ends....the amount of times I have cut myself on sharp string ends...ugh. Also makes removing strings faster....just unwind a bit and pull up. Whole string-coil comes off in one go.
Great video. It’s good to see someone who gets so excited talking about something they enjoy. I definitely want a performer series now, just can’t decide between a strat and a Tele
I bought this exact model last week with a Boss Katana 50 amp. I'm loving it. It's my first electric guitar as I have always played acoustic. What a machine!!!

I've never purchased a guitar blind before but after hearing you play it I needed one! Got mine today in the same finish! Admittedly can't make it sound as good as you but what a fantastic guitar! Great playing 👍👍👍
This strat is almost identical to my American standard limited edition. Same honeyburst and rosewood neck. The only difference is the head stock and bridge. This is a beautiful sounding guitar. It has more of the characteristics that a 1960's model would have that I think a lot of players will love. Over all it is a very versatile strat.
Been playing guitars with rosewood fretboards all my life. (Bored). Ordered my first brand new Fender Stratocaster Player Series. It has Maple Fretboard, Sunburst finish. And got a Fender Molded plastic case to protect it. My dream guitar, played through a Vox Tube amp.
Maple is win! Both my other guitars have rosewood and i do love them both. But I want a nice satin maple neck. So I’m building a strat and it’ll have almost identical hardware to this series. Yosemite pups too!
The player series is just as great as American series. I have both. Pickups, feel, tone control all identical for half the price. Fender is a great product from Squier to elite.
Best video of the performer Series. Getting one soon and had a couple doubts from other videos of people only playing clean tones. Glad you got it a little gritty so I know I won’t be disappointed
I have one on layaway. Will be getting it soon . Same guitar as you have in hand. Awesome guitar most players are saying it's better than any of the 2019 models. Best bang for the buck period.
Bought 3 tone sunburst hss...performer...the QC on this guitar was perfect ..own several guitars...in my top 2...Great guitar... your demo was perfect ..great job thank you
I bought that exact guitar around 3 years ago and love the beauty of it and the playability. That being said, I like it so much that my daily player is a Mex Strat that I bought back in 2009 just because I don't care about it as much. Dumb but that is the way it is.
Buying this model and colour next month and so I’m glad someone reviewed this guitar with a decent overdrive. All the other reviews insist on just a clean sound which is great but I play a lot of rock and blues. Thank you sir 👍
Man,..You're a really cool dude and an awesome guitarist! I'm glad I discovered your channel from the CGS channel, when you had your Les Paul on there. I'm definitely gonna check out that Stratocaster. Peace, from here in the USA.
I bought one and returned it. It is more bright (Yosemite pick-ups) than the traditional Strats that I love. I couldn’t get used to the change. Also the jumbo frets negatively affected the ease of playing that the traditional frets on the other Strats provide. It also comes with a gig bag (not a hardshell case). That’s a bummer.
It was because of this video that I got one of these strats! It's just so great! Performer series are a good option for the price =) Greetings from Peru 🇵🇪 😃
One caution for an overall great guitar. I own a 2020 American Performer Stratocaster in a cool "Sandblasted" matte finish. I love it! But, I have already changed the nut to a Graph-Tech nut and am considering what else I can do to improve tuning stability. It's harder to tune and keep in tune after using the tremolo arm than other Stratocasters I own or have owned, including a Mexican Deluxe (2020) with a two-point tremolo. I had an American Professional Stratocaster, and that one stayed in tune better as well. It might just be my individual American Performer Stratocaster. But, it's the most finicky Stratocaster I've owned where tuning stability is concerned. It also came with a bit of fret sprout which I took care of with a little careful filing and polishing.
You are absolutely right, the nut these guitars come with are a joke. They make a good quality instrument for a reasonable price and save approx. 3$ with applying a totally crappy nut, that's ridicuous. I got a AmPerf Telecaster (comes with the exactly same nut) and the first thing I did was changing that nut to a Graph Tech TUSQ nut. Thanx you for pointing out the tuning issue with the Strat, I already heard that before.
Thanks Peter. I'm learning that what I will call "Nut selection and Nut Tuning (making sure the nut slots are cut correctly and lubricated (either with an external lube like Big Bends Nut Sauce or lubed by the nature of the nut material itself) is a BIG part of tuning stability. I also adjusted the claw/spring tension, playing with adding more tension to the bass side than that of the treble side, etc. That seems to help as well.
Great Demo Mike I have the Lake Placid Blue Performer strat and I absolutely love it 🎸 That being said… I’ve owned many strats over the yrs from CS models to Squire models. in fact .. my first strat I bought new in 79 was a 25th Anniversary , it had the big headstock, so this one really brings back fond memories, and it plays better 🎸
Your review showed in the UA-cam suggestions sort of randomly. It's funny because I was doing my research a couple of months ago and I bought the exact same guitar. Very odd. I really enjoyed your video. It inspires me to keep playing.
I think the problem with those yosemite pickups are they are so gainy. They drive the amp so well but clean tones especially when it comes to rhythm playing it doesn't give that glassy tones.

That performer sounds more ...stratty..I really love those pickups .....gonna be getting the same one as your holding now....I also like the more vintage looking strats....great playing also ...well done. Cheers
I bought an American Pro Strat last year (one year old, used in mint condition), which I love. But this is sweet guitar. I like the fact that you can combine bridge and neck. That should be standard on all new Strats. My next guitar will probably be a Telecaster, and I am definitely considering the Performer series.
I have this strat in same colour etc. It's a lovely US strat. Your correct first time it's a rosewood board. I have a 2004 US standard in 3 tone Sunburst, maple neck played to death with natural wear where arm rests on the guitar and sweats when doing gigs. Had it for 15 years from new. I got the 2018 American performer strat in honey burst last year and haven't stopped playing it since I got it. I prefer it to my 2004 standard as pickups cut through more on performer strat. The bridge pick up is spot on. Only thing I'd prefer on mine is the decent flat saddles like my 2004 standard. Nice playing man, Subscribed 👍
You play that "Jimmy Nolen" funk guitar style well. It seems almost effortless for you, other players really have to practice to get that touch and flow going...
To me I always liked the 70s headstock but I started to play in 74/75 on a Columbus Strat copy with a big headstock. But for me it screams Hendrix, Blackmore and especially Trower from that era. So I just never had the hate thing many got for that style.
The ONLY problem I’m having with a strat is where to lean the back of my picking hand. It’s a weird adjustment when all your other guitars had tune-o-matics.
Mike Bradley Ah yeah :) it’s all about what you’ve used the most eh! It’s definitely an odd adjustment going from one to the other. Totally different feel!
You can never have too many Strats? I’m starting not to mind the large 70s headstock too. Everything comes around I guess. By the way, Yosemite is pronounced “Yawsemitee”. Same as the cartoon character Yosemite Sam 🙂

Hey mate! We had a quick chat in the comments yesterday regarding the Ultra vs Am pro ii's, and this guitar went completely under my radar until now! Considering it's a couple of 100$'s cheaper I might pick up this one instead, sounds great! Haven't played it for myself though, but I'll take your word for it haha ;) The honeyburst colour is just lovely, I even like it better than the sienna one I was locked in on. Yay! (if you have any input regarding my decision please tell me haha)
Those Yosimite pickups sound mellow.. nice smooth tone! I have a "17" Elite with the same vintage cherry burst body. It came with a rosewood neck.. l bought a new maple Elite neck for it (my preference) love it..the noisless gen 4 pickups are not as nice of a tone as your Yosimites though. Sweet guitar playin as always Mike!
Great playing and demo of the guitar I hate when people play some kind of elevator music you really show what it can do I been having my guitars built by Dean Fraser for the last 10 years and out of impulse I bought this guitar and I haven’t got it yet I was really pissed they gave you a gig bag with it but I’m just a old grouch I guess but in the old days lol! When you bought a guitar you got a case great job you are across the pond if I can figure it out I’ll send you a video of my Fraser you have to check them out such great guitars I hope I really like it
@@MikeBradleyofficial i just love your playing man. And yes, its an expensive one. Not found in my country. I'll have to get a "good level" start then.. Cheers man. Just love Your music.
@GiselleDK I've personally never had an issue with fret size. I have large hands and fingers. May be a little tight at the upper 20th frets, but everything else is perfect. If you purchase online from a great company like sweet water, you have 30 days to return. They tell you to keep the box's and packaging if you need to return for any reason.
@@GiselleDK Jumbo's make it a bit easier to play, less pressing, etc. The only issue I come across is playing the upper 20th frets, big fingers and big hands make it a bit harder to hit the bit smaller fret space, but the rest of the neck is perfect, plays well.
Mike Bradley kind of... It was either this one or a strat plus exactly like yours (same year even). The strat plus was a lot cheaper. Old vs new? Which one did I Get? Which would you get. Anyone want to guess? Pd. I am very happy with my choice.
Hey Mike i ve just subscribed ! I found you by performer strat review..i ve got a question..im learning the guitar 1 year now with a very good teatcher and i m about to buy a startocaster im between Fender player series SSS , Fender performer , and fender vintera 50s Modified.. i also let you know that i had a prososal for live gigs for playing a few notes when i feel ready so the door is opened but i dont know what to buy..i like the performer but i feel the player has a little spark that performer dont have it..Thanks!!
Hey buddy, thanks for joining e! :) My best advice is to g down to your local shop and try a few different ones out. Guitars are so personal, it's all what feels best for you. Keep me posted.
I've recently been bit by the shopping for a new guitar bug and I came across this particular strat in a local music store yesterday. It's the model with the maple neck and a lacquered natural finish. It also has a black pickguard and black pickups. It has the three single coil configuration which I prefer over the model with the humbucker. I wasn't even aware of the push pull tone control until I watched some videos about the guitar. Now I have been really dreaming about buying an epiphone Sheraton 11 pro With the wine red Finnish but couldn't find one locally except for the ebony wich is very nice, just not my preference. So in my travels I ran into this American performer stratocaster. It's a few more bucks than I was hoping to spend so I'm still trying to decide. I kept telling myself one thing though "you can't go wrong with a strat " When I heard Mike say that I just had to laugh! You can't go wrong with a strat. There it is.
Hey guys. I want to buy my first guitar with my own money ( i had an old ibanez so far) and i don’t know if i should buy the Vintera 50’s Modified Strat or the American Performer Telecaster or this one. Could anyone please help with their experience and tell me what they would do?
No, the pickups are regular single coils. The middle pickup is out of phase, so in positions 2 and 4 there will be no hum. Positions 1,3 and 5 will hum... The only model using hum canceling pickups is the elite one.
Great review - I was looking at these online today, sadly in the current climate, I won't be able to get to a shop to try one out. Having played Gibson style guitars all my life, the only Strat I ever owned, I couldn't get on with - It had the 7.25 vintage radius, I couldn't get under the strings to bend them, and the slightest use of the trem would send it out of tune. I'm sure I read this particular model has jumbo frets, might just tempt me to own another Strat.
I played only gibsons too and this particular strat is a great alternative, both cleans and overdriven sounds that you dont get with humbuckers. Hss kills it imo, sucks the life out of it and wont be as good as a gibson anyway.
Having a hard time springing for the American Professional after that demo. Your axe sounds like 100% Strat. Now, is it worth the extra few hundred $ for the nicer looking headstock (IMHO) and a hardshell case? Hmmm.....
Mike you are awesome man you are down to earth a great guy great 🎸 player indeed you are . Have a great weekend 🤟🎸 . Thanks TroyFrost / Troyster 😎 CoolRiffs 😎 Cool 🎸 🤘🤘 🤘
Awesome review and nice playing! Just one question for you personal opinion as you said you are a Strat-boy: Would you rather buy the new American Performer Strat, a used Standard Strat from the last years, or the current American Professional? Actually just wanna spend at max. around 1000 bugs (first two options should be fine with that) but if you say the 400 bugs more for a new American Professional is worth it I might consider it :D I will try some this Saturday but your opinion is interesting for me as you probably know the older models very good as well. Thanks anyways :)
Little Side note. The Fretboard is in fact Rosewood, NOT Pau Ferro! :)

Hi Mike, could you tell me what is the difference in terms of sound when the fretboard is made with maple? Thanks

Haven't played it for myself though, but I'll take your word for it haha ;) The honeyburst colour is just lovely, I even like it better than the sienna one I was locked in on. Yay! (if you have any input regarding my decision please tell me haha)
Yes this is a nice guitar. Really like the sound of it. The neck is a little bit flat, but not thin like the ultra.
Does the Fender (ca 10mm hole) deluxe locking tuners with the two pin fit right in on this ?
'Yoze might' nice one!
Sir that is one beautiful strat. Glad I found this review. Will be getting one tomorrow.
Hey Mike you should do a video featuring that Hamstead amp. I don't see those here in the U.S. .Sounds warm and buttery really nice with the drive on.
Got this guitar in LPB, 100% with you on the headstocks, when I first started I hated them, nowadays really think they look the part!
Great demo and playing. I especially enjoyed the plectrum joke
That's Noice I just ordered mine an hour ago I can't wait to play it ✌️
Great to hear! Let me know how you get on with it!
When you bought a guitar you got a case great job you are across the pond if I can figure it out I’ll send you a video of my Fraser you have to check them out such great guitars I hope I really like it
hey Mike! take love and respect from Bangladesh, South Asia. Mike if I may ask you,
what is the price of this strat?
Fahim Ul Kabir Khan I believe around £900. Not sure that that would be in your currency.
@@MikeBradleyofficial i just love your playing man. And yes, its an expensive one. Not found in my country. I'll have to get a "good level" start then.. Cheers man. Just love Your music.
Great review. Thanks!
Lovely to hear! You’re very welcome.
Picked this up a week ago, love the C Neck, Jumbo Frets, plays like a god. They stiffed me in the Trem Arm, need to go back and claim some souls. ;-)
Show them who’s boss! 💪🏼
🤣
Are the jumbo frets not too big? I can't try the guitar and I love everything about it but I'm afraid the huge frets will be an obstacle to playing 😢
Just when I made my mind about getting the Pro. Lol 😂 Awesome 👏🏾 review. Thanks a lot
samiebuka hehe.. let me know if you end up pulling the trigger.
Mike Bradley kind of... It was either this one or a strat plus exactly like yours (same year even). The strat plus was a lot cheaper. Old vs new? Which one did I Get? Which would you get. Anyone want to guess? Pd. I am very happy with my choice.
@Samiebuka So which did you go for?
Great demo and review, thanks for sharing. How would you compare these pickups with Vmods from American Profes.?
i just bought the exact same guitar, and immediately bought a set of bare knuckle pickups for it. I'm not a fan of the Yosemite pickups.
Thanks for the video, very informative and I really enjoyed it. Are the Yosemite (Yo-Sim-I-Tee) pickups "noiseless" single coils?
Thank you. No I don’t believe they’re noiseless.
Now I have been really dreaming about buying an epiphone Sheraton 11 pro
With the wine red Finnish but couldn't find one locally except for the ebony wich is very nice, just not my preference. So in my travels I ran into this American performer stratocaster.
It's a few more bucks than I was hoping to spend so I'm still trying to decide.
I kept telling myself one thing though "you can't go wrong with a strat "
When I heard Mike say that I just had to laugh!
You can't go wrong with a strat.
There it is.
I bought that strat recently. Ash body , stained dark and all black pickups. It's a limited edition and I paid 999 pounds just before Christmas.
cant wait to get me that performer model. OUt of all the guitars in the store i feel most comfortable on the fender performer!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this guitar standard size? For some reason the neck seems short to me. Can anyone confirm?
It is indeed standard size.
Hey guys. I want to buy my first guitar with my own money ( i had an old ibanez so far) and i don’t know if i should buy the Vintera 50’s Modified Strat or the American Performer Telecaster or this one. Could anyone please help with their experience and tell me what they would do?
This one, the performer strat
Keith Clark I did and I am sure I made the right choice
Are the pickups him canceling??
I don't think so, since they aren't humbuckers or noiseless single coils. But I'm actually not 100% sure
No, the pickups are regular single coils. The middle pickup is out of phase, so in positions 2 and 4 there will be no hum. Positions 1,3 and 5 will hum...
The only model using hum canceling pickups is the elite one.
Very cool guitar.
Great demo... Thanks!
Thanks for this. How are you finding the jumbo frets - do you need to deliberately play lighter to avoid tuning issues?
All good, I'm not a fan of small frets really, so great for me! :)
Having a hard time springing for the American Professional after that demo. Your axe sounds like 100% Strat. Now, is it worth the extra few hundred $ for the nicer looking headstock (IMHO) and a hardshell case? Hmmm.....
Also treble bleed, more detailed pickups, + better bridge (2 point tremolo)
It comes with a deluxe gig bag.
LOL...great review. Yosemite is pronounced Yo sim it tea. Cheers! Like this guitar. On my list now.
Cheers buddy! :)
how much weight pls ??
Mike you are awesome man you are down to earth a great guy great 🎸 player indeed you are . Have a great weekend 🤟🎸 . Thanks TroyFrost / Troyster 😎 CoolRiffs 😎 Cool 🎸 🤘🤘 🤘
what would you prefer - this strat or the tele ?
Both different tbh. I got a Strat first, then a Tele.
Excellent review!
Highway one/ Special / Performer nice guitar tho
That strat sounds great
Awesome review and nice playing!
Just one question for you personal opinion as you said you are a Strat-boy:
Would you rather buy the new American Performer Strat, a used Standard Strat from the last years, or the current American Professional?
Actually just wanna spend at max. around 1000 bugs (first two options should be fine with that) but if you say the 400 bugs more for a new American Professional is worth it I might consider it :D
I will try some this Saturday but your opinion is interesting for me as you probably know the older models very good as well.
Thanks anyways :)
I’m going to buy me one as soon as this pandemic is over 😲😲👍🏼🙏🏾
Why after the pandemic?
The pandemic should be over November 4th so maybe you can get for Christmas.
oh so in 25 years from now
