Interesting that the 2.0Ah uses the same cell as the 4.0Ah, but the 4.0Ah did not suffer the same voltage drop. Wonder if there is a poor cell in that 2.0Ah battery dragging the overall performance down.

The other thing I’d like to see is what the tools actually use. Torque Test Channel shows you what various impacts get with different batteries, but I’d like to see how batteries impact my Hackzall, die grinder, etc etc.

Yeah I’m hoping to get the data collected on battery’s.
That way when I get to drills, saws, grinders etc etc we know the best battery for the lowest voltage drop is being used.
Then we know the battery is not limiting to the maximum performance of the tool.
@@Tools-Tested Looking forward to it! I’m also curious about the extent to which voltage drop actually hurts tool performance.
For a brushed motor with a PWM controller, lower voltage == lower speed unless the controller is fancy and explicitly compensates for that.
With a brushless motor controller, I’d think there is a very reasonable chance that the controller sets the speed based on the trigger position and keeps the same speed across a wide range of voltages.
@@gf2e yep these are things no one seems to be testing, but to me could definitely affect the performance.

Every single head to head with tools shows you that the batteries are fully charged. To make it fair.
Now, if I’m working on my RV suspension, it’s likely that I will have a fully charged battery handy. I want to know which high torque will have the beans to remove old rusted parts.
But if I were a professional installing decks all day, an impact driver that was 20% faster at 100% battery and 20% slower below 80% battery would be worse than an impact that was consistent throughout its charge.
Personally, I don’t use my tools all day long, and it takes me awhile to figure out what to do next. So battery life isn’t that big a deal. But for a professional, it really is.
Good test and data. Looks like the 6aH shutdown on thermals. I would have expected 50% more duration at 30A otherwise. Especially since duration on the 5A and 15A test scaled with capacity.

Seeing these tests raises more questions than answers.
I heard that TTI uses EVE and Tenpower cells in their Ridgid and Ryobi batteries, yet none of the batteries you have opened have them. And on the flipside, I didn't know Listen and Highstar supplied cells for TTI until I saw you videos.
Makes me wonder if batteries of the same model can come with different cells from different manufacturers. If that is the case, that kinda makes these tests a bit moot, since a battery of the same model that someone else buys could have better or worse cells.
Yeah sadly its possible they could have different cells. I purchased all of the batterys in this past year, but its also hard to say if I received old stock. I couldn't find a date code on the packs.
Can you throw the Octane 3Ah in the mix? Also the (new) 8Ah?
Hoping to do older battery’s as a group Octane, p195 ryobi etc etc and compare to this data.
Definitely hoping to test the 8amp just waiting on the 12 which we should see soon.

The 8ah and the octane 3ah would be interesting since they're the only ones with 21,700 cells in them. The 12ah has 21700 too but that's not out yet

I know it's probably niche but I'd really like to see how the 8ah stacks up now that it's the only 21700 cell battery in the ridgid line up and being so expensive idk if it's worth it over a 6ah which already seems to maintain voltage significantly better than my current 4ah white label
I also have a 2ah white label. And somebody else suggested you may have a bad cell in your pack.

I think torque test channel has shown how much power you lose with this battery on an impact wrench.
But if possible it may be worth testing a second pack and see if it truly is this terrible at maintaining voltage or if you happened to get a bad cell
I plan to do the same test with the 8ah, I have been waiting for the 12ah before I do.
Idk why they are taking so long to produce it, they released it to the public at the same time as the 8ah...
Hopefully we see the 12ah soon, I will retest a normal 2ah if I come across one.
But yeah performance wise a 2ah and below really cut into the performance of most tools.

Do you know what the mosfets are under the board on the max series? Trying to find a spec sheet
So does it mean 4ah max output are useless without the extra pins? Many tools don’t seem to have it
Correct the max has little benefit if the tool doesn't have the additional pins. Hoping to show the different when I test the top hammer drill they offer on the new Dyno.
Which battery would you prefer for the rigid 3 gallon NXT shop vac?
probably the 6ah or even 8, shop vacs pull a lot of amps.

I've got a 2A Lithium, same generation you're showing (big buss to MFets, , all cells are good and very close in output but I have 4 blinks, all 4 led's; no output,19.34v across batteries, fuse not blown, and charger says "?". I tried a "reset" based on the prior marked connections, Reset, +5, Gnd, Data, Clock by connecting Reset to Gnd (ie TPS13b to TP41) but no effect. Cleaning the board, as some have done, no effect either. Board is marked RTI PCB 20200715. Did they move the Reset contact?
Any recommendations?

@@Tools-Testedok thanks. subbed. maybe I'm a noob but I didn't follow that vid too well. For dummies, and a home DIYer, is an 8.0 max output EXP (ie 21700 cells) overkill or will a couple normal 2.0s that come with the kits be more than enough?

Does the batteries have automatic low voltage shut off built in the battery circuits?
they are overcharging heavily for these packs. chinese cells they use cost them like 1usd each, pcb is less then 5usd and the casing also
Yep it’s crazy, but I guess they have to make up the cost of the LSA somehow.
I don't think anyone is actually paying full retail for these batteries, at least I know I never did. HD always has promos for free batteries, so does Direct Tool Outlet. I just picked up a 3-pack, (2) 4Ah and (1) 2Ah all Max Output for $65.
Is it possible to user replace the 18650’s ? Have any videos on that?
Its possible but you would need a spot welder, I don't have any videos on it but I'm sure some has one on YT for a cordless tool battery.
FYI, Ridgid is just Hi end Ryobi, manufactured in the same plant.
