The only other deck that for me feels like its on an equal footing with the Thoth but is not a clone of the Thoth but is a “purist” Golden Dawn deck (Strength 8, Justice 11) but for some reason feels “ Thoth leaning” even though it does not look like the Thoth at all is The Hermetic Tarot by Godfrey Dowson. The Hermetic is a very unique character of a deck. To me they both are representatives of the same philosophy of western esotericism but the main differences between the Thoth and the Hermetic to me are that the Thoth has a more artistic grandeur, while the only abstract thing about the Hermetic is that its literally a black and white deck that gives you the feeling its a university level text book where you either sit down and study it or cry about it and throw it away, much like the Thoth but the Hermetic is less inclined to “lube” your senses with inspiration because of the lack art and color. Both are also similar in that universality aspect because the Thoth does not have people nor skin color it represents higher forces, and the Hermetic though it has people they are not symmetrical humans and its a complete black and white deck without color and skin tones, It’s overlaid with layers and layers of pure esoteric symbolism from Astrology, Kabbalah, Numerology, Geomantic, Planetary and Sephirotic symbolism and it is through these symbols that it represents higher forces, like the Thoth does artistically, The hermetic is a bit rugged and old fashioned but a well rounded all purpose deck thats feels like its its own category separate from the other official Golden Dawn decks and it sits right next to the Thoth on my physical and metaphysical shelf 😆

Oh man, great vid! I thought I was gonna be in trouble watching this and adding more decks to my wish list but I have most of the decks you talked about lol. Tabula Mundi is hands down my favorite deck ever and Mel Meleen is a total genius. Tarot of the Spirit is one of my favorite decks too and the massive book for it is a total game changer. Every time I use the deck, it makes me take a step back and look at the bigger picture with each situation I'm inquiring about and I love that about it. The Gill Tarot actually reads more like an oracle for me and I really wish I could get my hands on a copy of the guidebook. If you're looking for another thoth based deck, I have the Zillich Tarot that I could send your way. It's a mass market deck available on amazon and it's really pretty but I just don't use it all that much. 🙂

Did you mean M M Meleens Rosetta maybe. I have that and also the Tabula Mundi. Both are amazing but Tabula Mundi is absolutely my favourite out of those too. And as you said the Book M is awesome.
Do you own a copy of Liber T: Tarot of the stars eternal? It’s very much a Thoth inspired deck. I really like the minor cards in this deck. A nice blend of Thoth and RWS type imagery to help dicoveries when using the cards.

@@jamesfeeney623 Also, look at getting the Cosmic Tribe Tarot. It’s Thoth based as well. Some of the computer generated images seem dated by today’s standards but the imagery is really good; unless you are not a fan of nudity. There’s also the Haindl Tarot that is Thoth based as well. It’s a nice deck to study but I dont like to do readings with it.

Last I checked if you get the Tabula Mundi app, it comes with the book (online, which is a bit much to read on a phone, but it gives you a chance to check it out.

I like the Hardy Tarot's art but not the borders whoops, but yes it's very similar to the Thoth. I like that. That's a great question, I sometimes use them study cards when reading up about astrology, or as symbolic representation of the signs within card readings, or as altar cards for the given seasons of each sign! The Golden Dawn Temple Tarot is a powerhouse Golden Dawn deck that obviously has much in common with the Thoth. This is pure Golden Dawn unlike the Thoth which has elements of Crowley's occult theories. The Golden Dawn Temple tarot is up there with the Thoth for me, it's certainly the most colourful Golden Dawn deck i've ever seen. I'm not actually a fan of Thoth 'clones'. In my personal opinion, you can't copy perfection and all the Thoth clones lack that 'something,' even the decks you showed here. My personal favourite Thoth inspired deck - but not an actual clone - is the Urban Tarot which is a mass market deck now. It's a modern deck and it has Trump Tower as the Tower Card. It seems very topical at the moment!
