      This is great matthias! I have watched hundreds of videos online and bought courses, yet this is one of the best explanations on how and what to listen for when mixing a track. Ofcourse loads of topics could be explained in more detail, but since you already have such detailed other videos on most of these topics one will easily up their level! i have said it once, and now again... You are one of the most rewarding "teachers" on UA-cam to learn from. This channel has been so insightfull for me and others you cannot imagine the huge impact it has on all of us. In fact, my first release will soon be announced ,which wasn't possible without your help.

    I was about to write that your video was as good as always, but... it's not! It's way better! It felt like directly sitting next to a teacher, catching up all the details which are going on in his mind. The way you name those sounds you don't like - fantastic! So I hope I can encourage you to keep up with this format - it's definitely heading into the right direction!

    I watch later but now i have tip for all of us, its more important than the mix. First of all, before mixing, you should check equipment such as headphones, speakers. There are no perfectly flat ones on the market, so no matter what equipment you have, go google and look for a frequency response for your gear. It gives you an overview of which bands are too loud and which should be cut. Unfortunately, no matter how good your hearing is, you won't move on with your mixes without checking it.
    Cheers

      I wasn´t sure and just had an A/B in the project:
      It doesn´t create any additional low end at all... at least not with my minor settings...
      Basically Distrotion is not able to create stuff "underneath"... it can just add stuff "above" as harmonics cannot be underneath the fundamental...

I'd appreciate if you take time and make a mixing tutorial on Orchestral music as well as I make Orchestral and Ethnic fusion Hiphop but when it comes to mixing i m preplexed how and where I should keep the low strings from the 808 if I should sidechain them and then again if I side chain them then why keep them in the first place because the creative me likes that jarring of the low strings with the 808.. so mostly confused how I should go about it... I just brought in "Loudness" in general ...not just for streaming services...
      The LUF system correlates to the db system so all you have to do for streaming services is to pull the Master fader down to -1db before rendering the version you want to upload where -1db LUFS is demanded...

    I noticed that a low cut filter on a kick makes the sub tail longer (in zero latency mode). This sometimes causes problems with sidechaining if you stack multiple EQs on the kick.

    • @flstudiotricks6903
      @flstudiotricks6903  2 роки тому +1

      Yes this can happen depending on your settings...
      As a filter is at the very end a delay it adds one wave cycle to the signal which is at low frequencies already quite some time...
      Nonetheless I never went into trouble as I always first treat the kick and adapt the bass to the kick...

  • @tudorgheorghe4532
    @tudorgheorghe4532 24 дні тому

    Example: we choose a kick for it's tone / preset character! That way we should envision very well on production how we want to sound in the final! I do not recommend using a EQ and way? Because we have much better tools to shape a little the tone and thats generally what the sound page have embedded!!! In FL or using the knobs and pots from vat ! Way that? Because is normal since we do not record it we sample and twerk it or we synth created! Even Fl offer to many options for kick and all kind of instruments!.but I see people just jump into mixing without no reason before having finished their creation ! Overall they have zero creation and zero inspiration because they have zero prepared production!!!😮 Even then they put hundreds of unnecessary tracks just because they do not know what their doing! And then trying to sound better from the mixing side😮😊❤ I ve seen this in the last 28 years

  • @hmoffu4223
    @hmoffu4223 2 роки тому

    This was fantastic to watch! When you’re giving each sound their own place on the frequency spectrum what benefit is there to have the click of the kick in the same range as the hi hats? Does it not interfere?

    • @flstudiotricks6903
      @flstudiotricks6903  2 роки тому

      Thank you...
      The higher you go in the frequency spectrum the less isues you get with overlapping sounds especially if they are so short like the click if the kick...
      Second: The only issue you have to take care of is that overlapping sounds can raise the volume in this area...
      Luckily especially the use of a clipper works very well as these frequencies are so high that hardly any distortion will be audible and clipping works fantastic on short sounds like the attack of a kick or of a hihat...

    I'm just a tad bit confused at the high passing of the kick. When the EQ was placed on it, the peak db reading jumped by almost 3db, so in my mind that's losing headroom. Eventually the extra high peak will need to be taken care of via saturation/limiting, so is it purely to free up spectrum space for bass?

    • @flstudiotricks6903
      @flstudiotricks6903  2 роки тому +2

      You have mixed it up with the volume after I have boosted the 50Hz region...
      Just the HP filter didn´t change the volume at all!
      Please watch again from minute 4:00...
      About the rest: The kick has a much higher priority than the bass and they are not playing together (Bass is sidechain ducked)...
      IF there are any frequencies in the Kick you don´t like, these you can EQ to make more space for other elements but you will never reduce/limit/ or otherwise reduce wished frequencies in the kick to make room for others...

    • @flstudiotricks6903

      I made a little list:
      YouLean Loudnessmeter 2 = freeware... no option natively
      Shaperbox2 = I explained in the video what alternatives there are natively
      Voxengo SPAN = freeware ... you could use the frequency analyzer in the native plugins like PEQ2 or Maximus but at the very end SPAN does the job much more easy with realtime readouts for the point you hover over etc...
      GClip = freeware... Maximus does the job just fine too
      Shaperbox 2 Multiband feature= just use the Envelope Controller on the Frequency Splitter...
      MDynamicEQ = There are some Patcher presets for...
      Limiter No.6 = freeware... there is no option for a true peak limiter in FLS but at the very end you can give a shit on true peak limiting ... it´s BS anyway and just use Maximus...
      But afterall (as I said in the vid for the Dynamic EQ, there is i.e. the freeware "Nova") don´t limit yourself too much ...
      I already used just stock plugins where it made sense and having 3-4 3rd party plugins (all freeware) in a project isn´t something to worry about... more the opposite!

    • @flstudiotricks6903
      @flstudiotricks6903  Рік тому +1

      Normally my template master chain is made of 3 plugins:
      -Fruity Limiter with default settings except Limiter Attack to 0ms
      - Voxengo SPAN (plus in my case)
      - Psyscope from fx23.net
      The only purpose of the Limiter is to catch extreme overshots (can always happen!) and to be an additional volume control which I normally pin to the blank space on the top right hand side...
      I work normally at a level of about -10dbFS...
      My audio device is very simple and not very good in amplifying so I use the Volume control of the Limiter to temporarily raise the volume of the song...

      A peak level of -10dbFS translates often to about -18db RMS which is the mostly the best input level for analog modeled plugins just in case I need one 🙂

      @@flstudiotricks6903 Oh, I see (and understand). 😃 You should put your time in your favorite tool, that’s for sure.
      If there is a Bitwig channel in the future let us know. ;-)
      I use two DAWs, one is (way) more productive and manageable in larger projects and the other is… FL Studio. ;-) I don‘t know… - it’s simply more fun and free.
      … yes… it‘s „fun“ - but not very productive to get lost in a patcher experiment instead of composing. And without noticing it‘s bed time - three chords done. 😂 But I enjoy my FL Studio time the most of all DAWs - and (even if slowly and sometimes I dont‘t understand the priority/order) the right features appear in FL.
      In my next holidays i‘ll check out Bitwig for a while. I love exploring DAW und plugins… I just need more time to spare. This industry simply exploded in terms of tools in the last 10 years. It‘s insane.
      All the best to you!

    what actually LUFS stands for - is it the same with dB ?

    • @flstudiotricks6903
      @flstudiotricks6903  Рік тому +1

      L oudness U nits F ull S cale...
      db is just a scale for measuring sound pressure in general...
      But we have different "points" where and what to measure...
      I.e. we have peak level which just tells you how "loud" the loudest peaks of the material is...
      But peak level doesn´t tell you how loud our hearing feels it to be...
      Our hearing reacts more to the "average" level than to certain peaks...
      Before, RMS level was there to measure the actual "Loudness" but RMS measurement has certain flaws when it comes to more bass heavy material...
      Because of that, Loudness Untis were developed to bring a more accurate measurment on the table...

      @@melorams22 Now I know what you mean...
      I have made my custom preset with High and Low Pass filter enabled instead of the standard shelving filters FL Studio comes with...
      I use the steep 4 settings for the order and have set the highpass by default to 30Hz and the Lowpass by default to 17500 Hz
      One thing you have to do though if you change the settings from the default preset:
      If you change the default shelving filters to high and low pass you have to reset the bandwidth knobs for Band 1 and 7.
