New York, New York City Center
Guillaume Côté is a native of Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec. He studied at Canada's National Ballet School, joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1999 and has been a principal dancer since 2004. His repertory includes lead roles in The Taming of the Shrew, The Merry Widow, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Onegin and Le Corsaire, among others. Côté has also created a number of lead roles in ballets by James Kudelka including Ferdinand in An Italian Straw Hat,
Her Prince Charming in Cinderella and Will in The Contract (The Pied Piper). He has danced with American Ballet Theatre, English National Ballet, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, Berlin's Staatsoper and Teatro alla Scala. He has also performed at Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and New York State Theater. In 2009, he performed in an edition of Kings of the Dance, Côté is also an accomplished musician and composer, and has written music for a number of dance and theater
productions internationally. He was awarded a Gemini Award as well as the Galileo 2000 A Life for Music Prize for his dance and musical collaboration in the documentary, Moving to His Music: The Two Muses of Guillaume Côte. He was a featured dancer in Tour de Force II at Segerstrom Center in April of 2011.
Five years after its world premiere at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and New York City Center, Kings of the Dance returns with an all-new program showcasing the incredible power, athleticism and artistry of today's most celebrated male ballet stars. Kings of the Dance: Opus 3 will feature Guillaume Côté of the National Ballet of Canada, Marcelo Gomes of American Ballet Theatre, David Hallberg of American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet, Denis Matvienko of the Mariinsky Ballet and Ivan Vasiliev of the Bolshoi Ballet. The men will dance eight New York premieres created by Mauro Bigonzetti, Edward Clug, Patrick De Bana, Nacho Duato, Jorma Elo, Marco Goecke and Marcelo Gomes. The evening will also include a historic collaboration by two of the dancers: a work choreographed by Gomes to music by Côté. Kings of the Dance: Opus 3, another of the extraordinary dance events for which Ardani Artists is renowned, is a co-production with Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Performances at New York City Center conclude the world tour that started in Moscow and continued in St. Petersburg, Riga, Novosibirsk, Kiev and Orange County.

All the dancers in this video are amazing. It's fascinating to see how they are all so different from each other and yet every one of them is brilliant. Variety is the spice of life...

This music seems as inspired as powerful.

It's awesome to see the power & masculinity of these dancer they all showcase the fact that men in ballet can look incredibly manly, yet beautiful (except for the guy in the blue shirt - he is the only dancer who fails to 'fit in' to this group - his arms, wrists, & hands are constantly flicking & waving, which is very distracting. It takes away from the beauty of the choreo, the music, and, the power and masculinity of the group). This show enables us to 'prove' that male dancers are highly elite athletes, thus deserving of a male athlete's respect.

    vasiliev playing the piano?

At the begining it's Coté,composer of this music, playing the piano (from 0,35 to 0,53),but after it's effectively Vasiliev doing it (from 2,37 to 2,47).
These 2 young men, incredible dansers by themself, are amazing artists!
