Ivan Vasiliev was born in Vladivostok, Russia. He studied at the Dnepropetrovsk Ballet School in Ukraine and later at the Belorussian State Choreographic College in Minsk. He danced with the Belarus National Ballet while still a student at the college. He made his debut at the Bolshoi Ballet as a soloist at the age of 17 and was promoted to the rank of principal dancer in 2010. Vasiliev has been a guest artist with International Rudolf Nureyev Festival in Kazan, dancing Ali in Le Corsaire and Basil in Don Quixote in 2008 and 2009, respectively. He has also appeared with the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater and with the Mikhailovsky Ballet in St. Petersburg. His numerous awards include the Bronze Medal at the Varna International Ballet Competition, Gold Medal at the Moscow International Ballet Competition (2005), Gold Medal at the Arabesque-96 Ballet Competition in Perm and Grand Prix - Varna International Ballet Competition. He is also the winner of the Triumph Youth Prize, British Critics' Circle National Dance Award and the Benois de la Danse Prize. Alexei Ratmansky's The Flames of Paris, starring Vasiliev, was recently filmed by Bel Air Classiques for future DVD release. He has performed several times at Segerstrom Center, including Tour de Force I and II in 2009 and 2011, and Reflections in 2011. Since December 2011 Ivan Vasiliev Principal Dancer of the Mikhailovsky Theatre of St. Petersburg.
Five years after its world premiere at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and New York City Center, Kings of the Dance returns with an all-new program showcasing the incredible power, athleticism and artistry of today's most celebrated male ballet stars. Kings of the Dance: Opus 3 will feature Guillaume Côté of the National Ballet of Canada, Marcelo Gomes of American Ballet Theatre, David Hallberg of American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet, Denis Matvienko of the Mariinsky Ballet and Ivan Vasiliev of the Bolshoi Ballet. The men will dance eight New York premieres created by Mauro Bigonzetti, Edward Clug, Patrick De Bana, Nacho Duato, Jorma Elo, Marco Goecke and Marcelo Gomes. The evening will also include a historic collaboration by two of the dancers: a work choreographed by Gomes to music by Côté. Kings of the Dance: Opus 3, another of the extraordinary dance events for which Ardani Artists is renowned, is a co-production with Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Performances at New York City Center conclude the world tour that started in Moscow and continued in St. Petersburg, Riga, Novosibirsk, Kiev and Orange County.

Ivan is so wonderfully intelligent and aware of so many things. This helps him to be an excellent dancer, no doubt. Besides the jumping.
