This is so gorgeous and emotional that I don’t even know where to start….its just profound, however you want to look at it. And so beautifully danced, just heartbreakingly beautiful. Thank you!
The female dancer is April Berry, and she is now a friend of mine here in Charlotte. I think that Alvin Ailey's work and his dancers are simply amazing. I love Gospel music, and I could watch "Revelations" on a regular basis. When I saw my friend dancing here in "Fix Me Jesus," I could not watch it without tears coming to my eyes. April is so beautiful in this!
This is my mother's (Hazel Johnson) choir for which she sang, recruited, and recorded with during the WWII era (at which time she toured Germany with the choir - The Wings Over Jordan Choir (founded and directed by Rev. Glen T. Settles). I have come to love the Alvin Ailey Dancers as a matter of this video years ago. The dance is graceful, gently, - yet, powerfully- expressive of the song, and contains signature moves of the Alvin Ailey dancers contained both in their Revelation series as well as in other projects. Thank you so much for uploading this.
i guess im asking randomly but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would love any assistance you can offer me
@Noel Dakota thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank God I experienced this with the originals when Ailey was alive. My extraordinary Jewish ballet teacher wanted to broaden our scope on our African American culture. She, like Ailey, was a marvel. Thank you, Julie Miesner.
Sheer, reverent poetry in motion, an exquisitely danced prayer! That back-bend-with-high-leg-lift at 3:35 ALWAYS gets me every time, truly a high point in this prayer...I can never watch REVELATIONS enough!
+Tyehale2007 You can purchase the DVD to "Revelations" on Amazon. There are several versions available, filmed in different years and eras of the company. I also found the soundtrack to "Revelations" and purchased it, because I love these Black spirituals....truly these are gems from our African-American sacred heritage! :-) HAPPY PENTECOST SUNDAY today! (May 15, 2016)
Very beautifully danced. The male dancer is the late Kevin Brown, from Norristown, PA who came through Joan Myers Brown"s Phildanco. Rest in peace Kevin.
Alvin Ailey is one of the BEST choreographers/artists EVER! The dancers are .... words cannot describe how I feel. As a dancer, I aspire to dance - to become motion in art- etching and creating in space and time .... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
This one is my favorite. When I saw it live I was so close to crying. So gorgeous and moving! Every time they pause it looks like a beautiful painting (as all dance should). I wish I could dance like that too. My turnout is the worst!
Just the most beautiful pas de deux of5 them all. All Ailey dancers are classically trained ballet dancers. Which not only means they worked in slippers and point shoes, they also have the technique that ballet brings to the body for perfectly executed moves. Freeze frame where you'd like and you'll see sculpture.
I saw the ballet technique. I thought this was modern dance. Well modern dance comes from ballet. Regardless this is beautiful. You must be incredibly flexible and strong to do this dance.
I just adore the hauntingly beautiful dancing and the amazing rendition of this Spiritual... One word CLARITY.. without unnecessary pathos....I cry every time I see this Video!!!
the first time i saw this piece performed i sat in my seat and cried like a baby. very moving. yes this 6' 2" , 230 lb man cried like a baby. when ever i get a chance to see this company, i run to buy tickets.
Masterpiece ; moving prayer , crystallisations of the human supplications for this MEANTIME that is impose on the MORE PERFECT! We are more , there is the higher democracy ! We are spiritual beings trapped in the DARWIN THEORY! There is the beast - THE MAN OF EARTH- and thee is MAN OF HEAVEN! 1 Corinthians 15: 45- 49
Saw this show in chi last night, artistically just incredible! So beautiful and evocative though I'm not 100% convinced of the Jesus bit... Could connect with fix me breakfast

I'm not sure what part of this clip would make anyone cry. Maybe I need to experience life more or something. Although I do agree this is great. The music is excellent and the movement goes so well with the music.
wait, are you writing iDS in all capitals? it's just confusing cuz capital I and lowercase l look the same. i was thinking it said el-d-s, like latter-day-saint. sorry. What did you mean by lDS?
oh my this is so beautiful i saw this live and it's 10 times more amazing, if u can believe it. Genesis2kx, what does being lds have to do with anything? There's other ppl who believe in jesus, u know. it's beautiful even if u don't believe in jesus.
@hotvibe69 if you know so excelent AA than maybe you have a performance of sinner man (choreograpy from 1987-8?). Do you know who perfomed the song?? Thank you

This generation Ailey Dancers were trained in Lester Horton technique. Primarily cuz racism/elitism prevented it.
@@stevenhunter3212 also in Graham technique. Likely the same reason.
I cry every single time I watch this piece. Absolutely love it!

Perhaps you have yet to be that broken. You see, we met Him when we had to. This music and it's inspiration is born of that experience.
I love this! Does anyone know what happened to the guy in this video? I think his name is Kevin Brown.
