That lady from the Canadian Civil Liberties Association is the kind of person to complain about police brutality and corruption but then when a counter-measure to that is enacted (body cameras recording encounters) she is against it.
Body cameras in Canada are absolutely useless, because any police misconduct can immediately be swept under the rug because it’s locked away from the public as soon as it’s investigated and never seen last year. There was a man in Toronto who was shot by the police while he was sleeping that body cam footage has never been seen. It was immediately locked away in the investigation and any information regarding to that incident doesn’t exist. It’s impossible or difficult to find but I know it happened. I saw the news report a year ago from global news, but now it doesn’t exist if you erase the evidence of police misconduct how can you say it ever happened?
right now most officers are using the AXON BODY 3 the best body cam out there, and now people are complaining about it.. It's only tps right now that's doing a mass distribution of body cams to it's officers in Canada

Leo F Indeed, but my comment was in response to "it's my decision to continue videotaping or turn it off". If policy is to allow officers to liberally turn on/off cameras with little to no justification, it could be used to avoid the officer's own accountability. I disagree with the woman from the Canadian Civil Liberties Union too. Deleted footage may become relevant at a later time.
They're the same people to defend our right to film people in public but the cops can't do the same? They should have the same rights that the rest of us have, including the right to film people in a public place.

The officers shouldn't have to be instructed to turn on the camera, it should always be on and the footage should all be kept for at least a week. Filming random people going about their daily business doesn't actually hurt anybody, and having the camera on constantly would allow for documentation of that officer's misuse of his camera. Officers "accidentally" forgetting, or just not bothering, to turn their cameras on while carding random civilians (which we know for a fact they do daily) or ambushing sleeping homeless people (ditto) seems to have a far greater potential for harm.

The Cop should not have the ability to turn the camera off, ever !
The police do not have to hand over any evidence whatsoever. I've been to court too many times to know this. The police are however entitled to lie to suspects and provide false evidence.
