Excellent points, as always. I agree with your take on Vegeta in Super, I just hope his current Ultra Ego path doesn't lead him away from his family oriented character growth. Also, your music in this video was very nice.

Toriyana doesn't write most of Super. If you're blaming him for how he's portrayed in the anime, that's Toei writing him. The manga is Toyotaro. He never said Goku doesn't care about his sons. He said that he sees them more as his friends than his kids. Let's not forget. He barely acknowledged Goten in the manga. It was the anime that changed that part. He didn't say a word to Goten until he was teaching them the Fusion. Most of his good father and family moments were in the anime and Z movies.

If anybody actually thinks Goku is even a halfway decent father, they really need to rewatch the series. Or watch Abridged. They obviously exaggerate and play it up, but the fatherhood Goku shows there isn't too far off from the actual series.
Goku wasn’t a great dad in Z either, when one looks closely. He was irresponsible enough to want Gohan to be involved in the fight with the androids, was specifically counting on Gohan to be the one to resolve the issue with Cell for over a week and a half, and put Trunks and Goten in danger by entrusting them to be the ones to bear Majin Buu. Then, in the final episode, he just takes off and leaves his family to go train a kid he’d just met that day. Some of Goku’s lapses in character within Super can at least be partially explained, however, with Goku’s knowledge of the franchise’s own lore. After all, why should he do boring labor at a job he doesn’t care about, when his family could just gather the dragon balls in a few days and wish for more money? Or the fact that his oldest son has married into the second wealthiest family in the world, and that his family is best friends with the actual wealthiest? And why take things too seriously when you’re on speaking terms with gods and other higher beings that can take care of any threats or issues that come up if you just ask them nicely for a favor?
My head canon theory on Goku’s mental regression comes from one of the two things that set him apart. 1) His overuse of Kaioken has rewired his nervous system or 2) Instant Transmission uses so much of his brain power that he operates with the bare minimum to get by on a daily basis (this theory is based on a similar one for the character Vicki from Suikoden who is also a master teleporter but seems to have a low functioning brain).
@KaioshinCurt Most of the good family and father moments you mentioned in this video were anime only. You completely ignored that in the manga, Goku barely acknowledged Goten. 😂
Goku is on his own path. The path of becoming the strongest since day 1. Goku is letting his children do as they please and find their own path in life. Honestly its more gohans gotens fault they dont want to be the strongest like goku. Vegeta is a good father. Goku is too busy becoming an angel
Vegeta definitely improved as a father and even a husband by the time of DBS. We can all agree he was a terrible father in Z, but now he's way better than the man he once was, though he still has flaws. Vegeta makes it clear that the reason he trains is so he can be strong enough to protect his wife and children, while for Goku he trains just because he wants to fight strong opponents. Goku is still a good dad in my eyes, but I feel Vegeta has more of his priorities straight compared to Goku.
Wait, aren't you also a manga reader? You should know that a lot of Goku's best father moments in Z were all filler or changed by the anime. That isn't Toriyama's version. It was Toei's. In the manga, Goku barely acknowledged Goten when they first met. All he said was, "Hey, he looks like me," that hug never happened. Even that scene of Goku holding Chi Chi when he woke up after his virus and then kissing her was anime only. I just thought I'd bring that up. Goku was shown spending time with Gohan in early Z, only in the filler stuff. You know filler doesn't count.

While he's certainly a worse father in Super, I'm not sure I'd say Goku was a great father in Z. Through to the Freeza arc they really don't even spend that much time together. Goku dies to Raditz, comes back just in time to defeat Vegeta, and is in the hospital when Gohan, Bulma, and Krillen go to Namek. He gets to Namek, gets body switched with Genyu, and then spends time in a tank until Freeza has basically fully transformed. Everyone thinks Goku is dead until he instant transmissions to Earth just in time for Trunks to finish off Freeza and King Cold. Really the first time Goku probably spends real time with Gohan since he was kidnapped is in the three years training for the androids. Even then, he doesn't know Gohan well enough to know that Gohan didn't want to fight a fully healed Cell. That he wasn't the fighter that Goku is. Something EVERY ONE ELSE FIGHTING ALREADY KNEW. The Buu saga is weird what with Goku having been dead for years, and then the whole Gohan was supposed to take over but they changed the script because fans wanted Goku. I do think it's telling that Z technically ends with Goku taking off with Uub to train...as opposed to sticking around to be with his wife, his kids, and his new grandkid.
@@KaioshinCurt how is this a great point. Goku was dead or crippled. Goku spent the first 5 years with Gohan then things beyond his control happened. Spent an additional 4 years with Gohan. How could he know his son if his son doesn't tell him he doesn't like to fight. Gohan in the vegeta saga and frieza saga contradicts what happened in the cell saga. Goku saw his son fight the saiyans, witness his son rebel against his mother to go to Namek. Bravely fought on namek and was willing to fight frieza. All of these events would tell me that Gohan loves to fight. The only reason piccolo know Gohan doesn't like to fight is because he told him right after he kidnapped him. He didn't say anything to goku about not liking to fight. Actions speak louder than words. I guess lebron is a terrible father too because he spends 9 months playing basketball away from his family and he pushed both of his sons to play basketball and be like him. According to db fans this is a terrible father. Military Soldiers do the same thing so they are also terrible fathers and mothers because they don't spend time with their kids.
This isn't a super thing. This happened in Z as well. After namek he stayed on yardrat for an entire year instead of going to earth and maybe coming back to yardrat a later date with his family. (This is after the most horrific year for his family and he doesn't check in on them because he doesn't think its a big deal) Additionally in the buu saga he saw he had a child he never knew about yet he didn't care about getting revived until he had literally no other option.
Goku still deserves to have some time for relaxation as the yardrats nurse him back to health which is what he did in yardrat. As soon as his spaceship was ready he was ready to go home.
Goku, and to a lesser extent Gohan and Krillin, will always lag behind Vegeta as a father. Those three only get half of the fatherhood experience. With both a son and a daughter, Vegeta gets the whole thing.
Krillin is a better Dad than all of them combined, he literally gave up the warrior life and got a job as a cop to be more involved and supportive to his family.
goku is a good person or a great person or even a legend but not a good husband and father, he is not family guy don't get me wrong he cares about his family he loves them but due to his saiyan nature he prioritise fighting and training more then earning money or spending time with family well he also does have his moments as good father in dbz but in super if there is a moment i don't remember because dragon Ball super writing focuses on fighting mainly with classic dragon Ball comedy and some slice of life moments between characters. Dragon Ball Super has less serious stakes compared to dbz or even og dragon ball as we all know if our z fighters are ever in danger they have gods and angels with you can analyse yourself to verify my statement and even the plot is very safe i think moro arc was serious but almost did have the involvement of beerus but i did like the sacrifice of meerus and he did came back as mortal that is why moro arc is my favourite in Dragon Ball Super and i love dbs and movies but it is not like dbz or the og but i think it is better than dragon ball gt because it has all amazing concepts but poor execution and also super saiyan 4 design is cool but goku's dialogue in it is terrible and first season of gt is trash i do agree that stakes felt higher than super but it still doesn't make it better and dbgt ending was good but it was unearned because the overall writing was bad only baby saga/arc is good other than every is barely average the shadow dragon or omega shenron arc was mid they ruined ssj 4 gogeta by adding too much comedy and it was like gotenks level childish he was cool and powerful but not a badass like gogeta in janemba movie or gogeta in dbs broly movie ok too summarize the writing focuses too much on fighting and it needs goku to move the plot but too make goku a good father and husband and earn money for his family the writing needs to make more slice of life interaction between characters and there should a arc in which goku trains with goten pan gohan picolo maybe even with vegeta and trunks which will include character development for everyone action interactions between characters goku will be good dad and grandpa but also a good teacher i still love dragon ball despite it's flaws it was my firsst anime , top 5 anime for me or i can put it no. 1 removing one piece sometimes due to nostalgia maybe but i have played all the games watched all anime read the manga watched the movies even filler episodes since 2010 i guess i was 6 or 7 now i am going to be 21 years old in December so more than half my life dragon ball was my favourite thing and my most watched anime i even love the dragon ball abridged by tfs and watched the full episodes movies and specials like 100 times but i never got bored i want to watch it again now also so yeah truly love dragon ball. i even love journey to west bruce lee movies jackie chan movies which inspired toriyama for dragon ball in terms of action and all the techniques even the character duality of wukong the angry arrogant wukong inspired vegeta and calm humble wukong inspired goku pure hearted fighting buddha style and ultra instinct and ultra ego also were inspired by it. thank you rip to the goat mangaka and a great person and a inspiration for all mangakas he is the legend himself Akira Toriyama i am loving dragon ball daima and looking forward to more dragon ball stories which has and which will inspire me
Who got prioritized gohan when he was kidnaped by raditz? Goku. Who supported his son during the cell saga? Goku. And anime dbs goku is a bad adaptation from toei, in other words, a filler, non-canon version of the more accurate goku from the manga.
Sure Bejita was a better father in DBS. But overall Goku is the better father. In super they just messed him badly. The guy had sex many times I am sure and they for some reason said he doesn't know what a kiss is. No way Chi-Chi didn't teach him otherwise- Why TF would he have two kids?! He would also never forget to bring a Senzu god that horrible writing. Let me tell you something else- We say rather they are good fathers or not by human standards. You got to understand that by Saiyan standards they are both the best dads ever. No parent is ever perfect but bottom line they love their kids. They don't have to say it they show it.
Yeah, the pendulum has moved in the opposite direction for Super. In Z, Goku is without question the better dad. In Super, while Goku isn't bad, he isn't as strong of a father as Vegeta. A consequence of Goku's character not quite being what it was before, and Gohan (well until recently) and Goten not really being relevant. Vegeta has definitely had more of a chance to shine than Goku as a father (The Future Trunks arc alone does that).
omg yall vegeta fanboys dont stop yall defend anything vegeta does since he decides to grow up and finally spend time with his son all of a sudden hes a better father
Vegeta spent time with future Trunks and that is how he learned raising his own child was important.

I think your perception that goku is bad father is wrong he always follow chi chi when chi chi wanted a license or to find job as security or took care the farm, he even want to bring goten to beerus planet to train if not for trunks talk to goten to stay with him,
@@KaioshinCurt goku and kid Gohan has many inter action in dragon ball z when Gohan is a kid
These not better than Goku in Super since he spends less time with his kids and does even less for them than Goku does, people who think Goku is a bad dad and super I just making mountains out of molehills Goku still a better father than Vegeta in super simply because any real kid would want to be with their dad rather than just their dad know they're supposed to be there when they're born.
Even with that Goku's just depict it as being an idiot not understanding it, he's not depicted as all I get it but I don't f****** care. That would be a bad dad the one who knows it but doesn't do it one who's just stupidly ignorant is not a bad father. People who do think that are very narrow-minded just criticizing a character for what they believe they should know rather than what the character actually did.
This could be true since goku once punched gohan even though he never had to
Thats idiotic. Vegeta is no where better than goku. Vegeta only skipped training to go to amusement park once .. vegeta never provided anything to his family. Never really show affection to his family. Krillin is he best father
Ur mom is idiotic for giving birth to u, don’t u remember when vegeta refused to train with goku bc he wanted to be there for his daughters birth?
9:33 you forgot about the scen we goku actually what's a good father and actually cared for gohan and actually questioned why she wanted train because he doesn't really want when he was a kid to go to other things and then another thing in other thing yeah i still think you're right goku is the worst father than vegeta in dragon ball super that's true but you forgot other things is still a bad father but not that bad 9:41
Thank goodness you added the "In Dragon ball super" because if you dragged that to Z, people bout to slander you.
Goku doesn’t carry he’s the worse. Selfish power hungry
Complete and utterly bullsh*t
Great points mate :)
I really enjoyed reading your thoughts
And let's not forget, in the manga, he barely noticed Goten.
Vegeta littearly almost let his wife and kid died in the cell arc but "senzu bean" bad
In super trunks asked to train or fight with vegeta and vegeta said that he needs to gain his own power. Basically telling him to f$&k off soooooooooo
😊 2:12 looks like i agree but i'm going to see
Cuz goku didn’t grow up with he’s parents 😂😂😂😂
good point mate
This video is so pointless😂 vegeta fans come here because he’s not the MC
Who is the better father? Depends on what you go for?
Dragonballz:Goku
Dragonballsuper:Vegeta
Goku isn’t a jerk so if they were ask him to go on a vacation he most likely would
In super they tried so hars to make this flawd selfosh character who ends up doinf good by accident with Goku that it just feel ooc compared to DBZ
This isn't a super thing. This happened in Z as well. After namek he stayed on yardrat for an entire year instead of going to earth and maybe coming back to yardrat a later date with his family. (This is after the most horrific year for his family and he doesn't check in on them because he doesn't think its a big deal)
Additionally in the buu saga he saw he had a child he never knew about yet he didn't care about getting revived until he had literally no other option.
Dragon Ball Super has less serious stakes compared to dbz or even og dragon ball as we all know if our z fighters are ever in danger they have gods and angels with you can analyse yourself to verify my statement and even the plot is very safe i think moro arc was serious but almost did have the involvement of beerus but i did like the sacrifice of meerus and he did came back as mortal that is why moro arc is my favourite in Dragon Ball Super and i love dbs and movies but it is not like dbz or the og but i think it is better than dragon ball gt because it has all amazing concepts but poor execution and also super saiyan 4 design is cool but goku's dialogue in it is terrible and first season of gt is trash i do agree that stakes felt higher than super but it still doesn't make it better and dbgt ending was good but it was unearned because the overall writing was bad only baby saga/arc is good other than every is barely average the shadow dragon or omega shenron arc was mid they ruined ssj 4 gogeta by adding too much comedy and it was like gotenks level childish he was cool and powerful but not a badass like gogeta in janemba movie or gogeta in dbs broly movie ok
too summarize the writing focuses too much on fighting and it needs goku to move the plot but too make goku a good father and husband and earn money for his family the writing needs to make more slice of life interaction between characters and there should a arc in which goku trains with goten pan gohan picolo maybe even with vegeta and trunks which will include character development for everyone action interactions between characters goku will be good dad and grandpa but also a good teacher
i still love dragon ball despite it's flaws it was my firsst anime , top 5 anime for me or i can put it no. 1 removing one piece sometimes due to nostalgia maybe but i have played all the games watched all anime read the manga watched the movies even filler episodes since 2010 i guess i was 6 or 7 now i am going to be 21 years old in December so more than half my life dragon ball was my favourite thing and my most watched anime i even love the dragon ball abridged by tfs and watched the full episodes movies and specials like 100 times but i never got bored i want to watch it again now also so yeah truly love dragon ball. i even love journey to west bruce lee movies jackie chan movies which inspired toriyama for dragon ball in terms of action and all the techniques even the character duality of wukong the angry arrogant wukong inspired vegeta and calm humble wukong inspired goku pure hearted fighting buddha style and ultra instinct and ultra ego also were inspired by it.
thank you rip to the goat mangaka and a great person and a inspiration for all mangakas he is the legend himself Akira Toriyama i am loving dragon ball daima and looking forward to more dragon ball stories which has and which will inspire me
Why did you change your mind?
If you are going to be that nice to vegeta then do the same for Goku
Who got prioritized gohan when he was kidnaped by raditz? Goku. Who supported his son during the cell saga? Goku. And anime dbs goku is a bad adaptation from toei, in other words, a filler, non-canon version of the more accurate goku from the manga.
Toriyama never said Goku doesn't care at all about his sons. He said he sees them more as his friends than his kids.
Vegeta is the best character in db super
I mean both are good
I agree but he is better in Z tho base off what he does
Stop lying chi chi was okay and understandable
Piccolo number 1 dad
How about dragon ball gt
The he beet the crap out of him
Yeah, the pendulum has moved in the opposite direction for Super.
Goku's not really a bad dad or husband, Vegeta is just better 😅
Fatherless opinion
@@lornm1856 pointless opinion 🤣
Kinda sad that despite all his character development and the good guy Vegeta has become he's still going to hell for the millions he killed
Breh this is cap
Its 100% the fact that Goku is like forest gump, Vegeta is a great father.
💀
Goku is a good father he die for his son 2 times
omg yall vegeta fanboys dont stop yall defend anything vegeta does since he decides to grow up and finally spend time with his son all of a sudden hes a better father
