John MacGregor looks a lot like Major Fambrough at Fort Hayes in the movie Dances with Wolves "Sir...Knight, I am sending you on a knight's errand. You will report to Captain Cargill, at the furthermost outpost of the realm, Fort Sedgewick. My personal seal [scribbling] will assure your safety [scribbling furiously] through many miles of wild and hostile country. "
Love your channel! Glad to see ypu herping in my home state. Snakes have always freaked me out because of my lack of knowledge but after watching you I am becoming more comfortable around them.
I did some hiking in the Mammoth Cave area around what was Crystal Caverns. Never seen one snake. But they probably seen me. I read the book "Trapped" about Floyd Collins, the cave wars and his ultimate death in Sand cave. I loved it and so took a vacation to the area. Then I had to explore the areas where he grew up and died. There where some structures that still existed. Crystal Cave was sealed but there is a video on UA-cam of people able to enter it. Found another opening in the area that was also sealed. I wasn't there to go underground so I didn't care. The wind blowing into the openings and cave crickets would have been enough to keep me out. The opening to Sand cave is so small, I can't imagine anyone wanting to enter but Ol Floyd was known for it.
Yiiiiikkeeess!!! That copperhead at 7:52. It looks bigger than 2 feet. I hope I don't see one (or only from afar) when we go to Mammoth cave NP in a few weeks. It'll be stop #3 of 59 national parks for us. I searched for "mammoth NP" in UA-cam and this is the first video I see. 😂
Nice video! It would be great to spend a day with this guy out in the woods. I'm sure he could find almost any kind of critter one would want to find in that area.
We got tons of copperheads and timber rattlers in central Kentucky. I see em quite often. Don't kill em and let em live.. They are valuable to our ecosystem.
Josey same in British Columbia and Alberta Canada We have Prairie and Pacific coast Rattle snakes we do not kill them they help keep the rodent populations down which helps keep diseases down from the rodents ,
Yup, I see coppers a lot, only seen one rattler in my tree line while cutting grass. I leave them alone, they leave me alone. I’m north of central ky, so I imagine that’s why I don’t see rattles. And nobody had ever mess with my 6’ rat snake that lives in my shed! She’s my buddy. She does a great job of keeping the vermin under control.
I once saw a copperhead in Pennsylvania. I didn't even know copperheads existed, let alone that they were venomous. I thought the only venomous snakes in the area were rattlesnakes. I followed it as it crawled around the house and into some rocks. I kept my distance, but had I known it was venomous, I'd have kept a bigger distance. ;-)
Great video. Here in the west I am seeing a lot of rattlesnakes that never rattle least when I have come upon them, I wonder if they are evolving in that to rattle is to be killed ?
Hilleary Brown More than likely. Snakes are almost sapien. They reason and are aware of themselves and there environment. They will leave you alone if you leave them alone too.

Interesting piece of American history. Anyone that had a radio at that time knew that story. Today, very few are familiar with it.

😊
Love all reptiles and amphibians. Caught rattlesnakes when I was in high school.
I'm curious if they rehabilitate or stock snakes at MCNP.
Biggest damn garter snakes I've ever seen! Damn!
OMG! He touched it!!
How come those garter snakes are so laid back? Even when he grabbed them, they weren’t biting or anything.

Scare Crow dumb ass
Even if a copperhead is decapitated the head can still bite and inject venom up to an hour.
Thank you.

A guy in Texas told me that the snakes in his area don't rattle because they are often eaten by the wild pigs and evolved not to give themselves away.
Gathering No Moss. Yes saw story on TV about them not rattling anymore due to being killed over it...
Sure makes me what to rush on down to Kentucky
Is that Otis campbell
When they put in the oil drilling rigs and coal fired power plants the oil sludge and fly ash will kill the snakes and deer
Their old house is demolished there is lots of wood just laying around.
Go to the hollers' of Lawerance co. My grandparents use to live there when they were alive. Full of cooperheads and cottonmouth.
Yep, Copper heads !!
So muttonchops show us the snakes.
His Sideburns trouble me.

Did he say we dont have water moccasins in ky?! Hes a loon
He said they're only in certain parts of the state.
LEAVE THE SNAKES ALONE, man, it's not cool to go to disturb the poor animals for the sake of a damn video
