@@chailatt3e TL;DR: You probably could. but there are multiple things that go into it. The reasons are talked about below
You could probably do so with proof of experience. The cave being a United States National Park as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and international Biosphere Reserve, the US Parks Service probably wants to avoid a tragedy concerning human interference to the extent that it could be tragic to lose anything of researchable value.
The Parks Service would also like to prevent a second Floyd Collins Tragedy. Collins, an amateur cave explorer during the Kentucky Cave wars and a hopeful entrepreneur who wanted to give cave tours out of an entrance he had acquired in said cave wars, died in the cave entrance that happened before the foundation of the park.
Additionally, the cave holds significance to the ancient Native Americans as a burial site and is a common archaeological site that must be preserved with the greatest care with locations of bones and tools being undisturbed. It also hosts species of bats and other species of animals that are found only in the cave, so any imbalance in the ecosystem could effectively kill off any of the species, as is sadly happening with some of the bay populations.
You could explore it, but it might be under the supervision of an experienced caving park ranger, or an archaeologist, who knows what could be mapped and accessible, without damaging the ecosystem of the cave. Exploring it could be easy, though. I know there are exploration groups already that maintain good relations with the parks and continue to push the boundaries of what’s explored.
There’s been some speculation that surrounding cave systems might also be connected to Mammoth Cave, so who knows? The length is almost double the second longest cave system in the world, so any new additions could push that over the edge.

The general tour is very easy to do. No crawling, hiking, or climbing; just some stairs at the beginning. It does not cost much either. Very nice on a hot day as the cave is always cool.

not to try lose your bubble, and not in a rude way. but there is climbing. They have shut down some of the passages because the government hasn’t have them permission. I just went today, you do have to hike a long time, it can be exhausting, but was super cool! they are a lot of stairs, when you up the cave.

I went back in 2010. The easiest path was via the main entrance and there was just a single set of stairs. I know they have several ways to explore the caves and those are much more intensive with regards to climbing and hiking. It could have changed since my visit though.
