As an update to my comment on your previous 020 video, I've so far replaced the transmission twice. First time was because the transmission literally exploded (a bearing on one of the shafts froze up and forced the shaft into the bellhousing), second time was because the new (read: got it from a scrapyard) transmission had a full set of cooked bearings. First time replacing it was ~18 hours total work time. Second attempt was 7h 32m. I'm now looking at having to pull it again because the bolts attaching the left axle to the flange failed, and the CV kicked forward into the transmission case and made a nice big hole. So, planning to do a rebuild of the 020 with bad bearings and installing it. Any recommendations on where to find a bearing and seal kit for a rebuild? Any special tools needed? Haven't been able to find a whole lot of resources for this project, and any help you can provide would be outstanding.

Did this fix the issue im currently having the SAME EXACT issue with my 97 jetta. Bought a clutch kit. Replaced the throwout bearing and checked the arm without dropping the transmission still won't go into gear while running. Looks like im going to be doing this next weekend only have Jack and Jack stands though. So do you have any suggestions on making this easier without having a lift?
Yes, a new clutch kit fixed the issue (as you can see, the clutch was down to the rivets). How does the clutch pedal feel? Lots of free play or does it feel normal (spring tension)? I can only suggest to work safely. I have never removed a transmission with a car on jack stands.
@@EXOVCDS well the clutch pedal itself went dead and would not come back up. I have a question: Do I need a transmission jack for to remove an 01m from '01 Jetta 2.0? I found it weighs about 185lbs. Maybe hard to balance it on a floor jack with a 2x4...
A transmission jack is just a jack that has support arms. As long as the floor jack can hold the transmission stable, you should be able to use it. Having a helper / not working alone... is also a good idea.
I have a mk2 020 I just did trans on and clutch it's making a real loud grinding sound when I try to push the clutch in I did the throw out bearing also. Any ideas?
