i'm from the future 2019. I came here because of samsung dex. They have a nice dexbook design. and, lots of kickstarters for the lapdock. Years, later, the masses still aren't interested in lapdock!? although, the phone are getting more powerful.
We are interested but lapdocks are ridiculously expensive!!!!! This is why I buy the Motorola lapdock. I just need to get the correct cables and it works
@deucedaprodeuca for one, you can't install anything. This thing has no hard drive, it just runs off of the hard drive of the phone. That means you can't install any of the programs you could on a normal laptop that's not offered as an app on the phone. It also can't connect to any LAN networks, so if you want to share spreadsheets with the guy from accounting, you have to do it over wifi, if it's there. For calls there google voice. If you want a laptop, you should get a laptop. This thing blo
I have this and rarely open the dock . I only use it to charge my phone. Craigslist $50 my what a bargain. Its great when I do use it. Love this phone. Nothing beats it.

@nataxcan most 15" laptops weight around 4-5 kilos, so your asking whats already obvious, although, because i have an alienware its battery would of been dead withing minutes, so this question for me is, obviously im not going to sit with it on a coffee shop, however with laptops that are less battery consuming, i see alot of people sitting in coffee shops, even with 17" laptops (6-8 kilos) so obviously you will notice when someone is moving it...

I believe! if your are playing the browser version. to play you only need flash and java. and the Android OS is made form Open Source Software just like any Linux OS like Ubuntu and others, Or you can download the Minecraft App from the Android Marketplace and take advantage of the screen and play in Full screen.
For questions below: I believe it WILL run other phones (assuming the plugs in the back fit) but most likely only Atrix/2. The dock itself HAS NO OS - it just runs like a physical emulator for the phone itself. You could TRY jailbreaking a phone, uploading Linux NO PROMISES. YES, if you want high-end Gaming Laptop this is NOT the way to go, but if you're social online with pics/videos, and just want a smaller notepad with keyboard, bigger screen, and better batt, this could be JUST RIGHT for you
you keep saying the gripe is the location of the dock. So where do you propose it should be? Do you know of a better location? I sure can't think of another. I actually think that's the best location. complaining about the dock location without proposing a solution is not constructive.
@Imran92693 It's thin like a macbook air, but if we're going to judge its thinness, it's also similar to Lenovo IdeaPad U260 or the Samsung Series 9 laptop. That's first. The generalization of its appearance being similar to the Mac OS is just that, one big generalization. A lot of PC's now have that same dock design, and if it were truly to look like the Mac OS dock, it would have that gray bar at the bottom, a three dimensional feel due to shadows, and it would have similar functionalities.
i got the atrix phone, then i went to my service provider and asked how much it would be for the laptop dock, almost 2 months after i bought the phone, the person who answered me said that it would only cost $329.99 CAD. so i was VERY plesed to hear that, considering i also recived $100 off my reducing the price to $60, so altogether it would cost me around $400 for both of it, unlike on this reveiw it would have cost me $660 plus a 13% HST.but still would like to know where they got this data.
I think Microsoft do something like this. making a x86 based smartphone that runs full windows and when you dock it to a laptop/ desktop dock it becomes a regular computer
+Nick Principe well it quite different. for Windows 10 mobile the phone will actually be running all the apps and display the full desktop screen. But for this dock, it actually have a very light OS installed that only have the browser and a couple other apps. while have the option of displaying the phone's screen at the side. You can't even put the phone screen to full screen.

last 3 comments. If, you have a phone like this with dock station, & didn'topt for the insurance, you were screwed (in the head) from the jump. If someone gets close enough to you to steal your phone after dropping that kind of cash, and you weren't cautious, you deserve it. And last, what laptop can you make calls to? Skype is limited. This device is for those whom need a phone, and a laptop. $800 isn't bad for the combo. What does a laptop do that this won't? I'm waiting for Droid Bionic...
@generik88 Android is a very open mobile OS. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find the program you need through either a search on the Android Market or a quick Google search. As for file sharing it would be done the way 99% of people do today and that is with either a USB thumb drive (dock has full USB and will support USB flash memory along with other USB devices) or by attaching the file to an e-mail. My wife has one and can even remote into her desktop at work with it. Very versatile phone.
this dock is useless... think about a situation like this: someone sits on a coffee shop with this thing and some other guy comes next to him, take the phone, and run... the location of the phone and the tiny display is what kills this device. i would rather have a big keyboard + big touch screen like the asus eee pad transformer has that i can connect my phone to instead of a thin small screen that makes stealing my phone a task that even a 3 year old kid can do...

It's a nice shiny gadget, but it's useless... With $500 I can buy a full fledged Netbook, and even a Laptop, which will have a full OS on it, like Windows, and you can do anything on it, you're not limited to watching videos and messaging... So, sorry, at 100-200 dollars it would have been pretty useful, but at 500 it's just not worth it !
And now in 2021, there is now a built-in Desktop Mode starting with Android 10. How time flies.
