    This was so ahead of its gone. The Webtop desktop operating system was the precursor to Dex. It was full Ubuntu too.

      Yeah I had that web top desktop feature on my Motorola photon on Sprint that came out the same time as this atrix 4g

    My wife switched from BB to this phone. I had fun rooting and romming on it. I ended up getting the Atrix 2 the next year.

    Man I love this retro throwback videos. Keep them coming.
    That desktop mode was way ahead of its time. When it first shown, it was like the coolest thing no one ever thought and many claimed that's the going to be our future of computing haha, awesome. Anyway this phone suddenly made me fondly remembering the great Droid Razr. Hopefully you will cover this phone soon, it was the thinnest phone during its primetime and crafted with the ballistic kevlar material, it was one hell of a design. Cheers.

      Ikr. Even that lapdock idea now gaining traction with the likes of NexDock and UPERFECT X.

      It was both cool and highly frustrating…having just 512MB of RAM dedicated for Ubuntu was not enough at all.
      The hardware was amazing though: carrying around a 2lb 13 inch laptop that you didn’t have to worry about losing because it wasn’t crazy expensive (they were sub $300 very soon after launch) nor had any data whatsoever, that additionally charged your smartphone and had infinite data anywhere using your smartphone plan (no secondary plan needed - Thad a huge expense to save every year).
      The docking was seamless and the keyboard was great.
      The only issue was the Atrix just wasn’t ready for the idea.
      I was so upset when Google bought Motorola and never used this again, even though they’ve since held the patent.
      Android was far too primitive back then, and smartphones were still underpowered. Now that smartphones rival x86 mainstream laptops in performance….this idea should be brought back to the table. Because every other implementation of a docking laptop…has really sucked.

    Atrix was one of the first phones offering wifi hotspotting (Tethering). It was the reason why I bought mine.

    i went from an htc inspire (worst battery life phone ever made btw) to this phone. i had all the accessories. and i gotta say it was ahead of its time. also, the finder print scanner was really easy to use after you figured it out. man thats a throwback

    2015. My parents gave me this phone for my birthday and, oh surprise !!!, Android 2.3 while the rest of the people had Android 4.4 or later on their phones. I felt like a caveman but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

    I was watching a Mr Mobile video and totally forgot about my old Atrix phones. I think I had 2 or 3 of them. Also forgot about the HTC Wing I had before the iPhone was released. HTC was really at the top of their game for a while and it's sad to see they are no longer a global player.

    I also tried to get the laptop dock but it was also way, waaaay outside of my budget.

    Flirted with the Samsung Infuse for a couple days as my first ever smart phone until this thing became available. Everyone knew the screen wasn't good but dual core made it worth it for me. The speakers on it are actually what i remember the most. They were good enough to hear/enjoy music while doing the dishes or other stuff around the house.

    This was my favorite phone that i have owned. I remember the day i loaded Ubuntu onto it to replace Webtop.
    I was so hopeful that the Lenovo Motorola Z line was going to fully bring back and hold onto this concept.

  • @trevor4533
    @trevor4533 Рік тому

    This was my third cell phone. Bought it because of the commercial they made for it so hooray marketing haha. Dualcore in a cell phone? That's practically a computer! The lapdock was such a cool concept, but of course I didn't have enough money to buy it. I remember it being so darn snappy, and being able to emulate SNES and GBA games was mind blowing. I was super into Drifting at the time, I remember streaming coverage from Formula Drift and blowing through my data plan lol. BUT. It was such a hot mess, crashing and resetting several times a day. A buddy of mine had a 3gs and we'd get into android vs apple pissing matches all the time haha. I ended up trading it plus some cash for an Iphone 4 and never looked back.
    Time flies...

    Had one for over a year, got it because of the glowing reviews. God, I hated that thing. Fingerprint sensor was useless, and the phone kept randomly rebooting. Moto Blur wasn't too great either. Finally was able to replace it with an HTC One X.

    My first smartphone I ever got and my first laptop I ever owned (for a month or so as I got a 2008 Aluminum MacBook a month later)
    I never really liked the MotoBlur UI as it was really sluggish and unresponsive. And it was acting like that straight out of the box. In November 2013, I rooted it and flashed a custom rom and what do you know, it worked better than before.

      i still got this phone and the lapdock since 2011. while trying to replace the lapdock battery i accidentaly reversed the polarity. i think i damage its bms. thing is it's not only a bms, but that's where the touch pad and the battery status also connected i got really disappointed when i put it back together and noticed that the keyboard no longer works!

    I had thought lapdocks would be everywhere by now. I'm assuming it's because manufacturers don't want to cannibalize laptop sales.

    • @farishanafiah8461
      @farishanafiah8461 3 роки тому

      Cannibalize laptop sales? I so doubt that. Android as a desktop OS still has a *LONG* way to fully replace Windows and macOS. For someone like me who always use Adobe softwares and do PC gaming, that's not going to happen. I only use my phone with a lapdock when travelling, but that's about it. A complete replacement? Not even slightly.
