    Steve McNally is a great guy. Took time away from his busy schedule when in Chile to be picked up by me at the airport and give me a personal demonstration IN MY HOUSE of my new korg OASYS. Talk about product support!!!

      @@stainlessdonkey4769 I bought it back in 2007 at a local dealer here in Chile. Obviously they weren't very knowledegable about the keyboard and it's multiple functions. What Steve showed me to do in 3 hours was far more than many training videos and hands-on by the dealership staff here. Great guy and even greater disposition to go to a perfect stranger's home and give out a free lesson on how to tame this beast. I´ve purchased the korg M3 76 and the Kronos 88 throughout the years but the Oasys is so incredibly well built that it's always that board I keep coming back to over and over again. Sure there are great software libraries for music scoring that with the years have surpassed this keyboard in sounds but it's hard to think of another all-aorund performer such as the Oasys. It covers so many things in just one instrument.

      @@Pake154 Wow! Thanks for the reply! Speaking of the software libraries, I don't think that the OASYS has been surpassed. As a user of the Triton Rack, I can acknowledge that the PCM-based sounds have their own unique character. Since Korg has built machines based on the TR series PCM sampling core, starting with the Trinity, I think that every program has its unique character. I love to use my Triton regularly and really think that this generation of workstations is the best to ever exist. Being a beatmaker and producing for SoundCloud in my spare time, I can confirm that modern gear needs serious hardware and software capabilities to compete with the wealthy sharp programs of the Triton. Afterward, these days, people start to prefer to have hardware machines. They are just far more convenient than tweak a parameter in a VST plugin with a mouse as the only interface between your hand and the synthesizer. Sir, you have in your possession an absolute treasure of a machine. You should make youtube content about it! This is what I searched before landing on this video. The OASYS really need some more attention!

      @darwiniandude  5 місяців тому +1

      @phillc not really - I used to sell them years ago, and used them a little then, but have never owned one. Since it’s essentially a PC on the inside I’d want to find a way to make sure the data on the drive is backed up, and as with most things of the era the capacitors will need to be replaced by a competent technician at some point. Really awesome boards though, enjoy :) I’d love one if I found one for a sensible price near me.

    Will KARMA ever be evolved or integrated as well into any other keyboard/workstation? I loved my M3 (My Baby OASYS) minus the touchscreen. I hope Stephen Kay does something wonderful here in 2025. He was always the future of music to me!

    So as of 2024, is this 17 year old synth workable? Like I get that you can’t repair it, it’s completely normal with synths, most soviet instruments didn’t even have the possibility to be repaired, but if someone finds a lightly used oasis can they use it? Does the os still work?

    • @darwiniandude
      @darwiniandude  5 місяців тому

      Plenty still use them. The main issue likely stems from the mainboard inside is one from a PC, AOpen brand I believe, and over time it will need the capacitors replacing and so on. Many synths need this too, Roland XP series for example. There is also some copy protection with the software, so you’d want to keep the original board working if possible. But yeah I’ve read of people repairing them successfully without issue. I’m yet to own one myself sadly, but used to sell them (when new) and have used them a bit.

    It's funny because the oasys piano sound is included in kronos and it sounds like crap compared to their new piano engine!

    • @darwiniandude
      @darwiniandude  2 роки тому

      Absolutely - times have changed. Their is aesthetic choice in the piano timbre and even the brand and model of piano sampled, but then the sample rom size and processing techniques used. How sympathetic string resonance is emulated and so on. I’ve never been a massive fan of many piano sounds but I really love my Nord Grand, since I can swap in so many instruments and the basic controls allow really significant changes to taste.

      Yeah I couldn’t afford one either for the longest time. Eventually could. I really wish they’d make a small Nord Sound Module you could load their sounds into. But then they’d sell less keyboards I guess.

    The much cheaper Yamaha Motif ES megavoiced guitars left the Oasys for dead in that particular department sorry to say, even with all that HD1 action. You honestly didn't demo many of the HD1 programs with the exception of the piano, drums, Rhodes, strings, flute, nylon guitar and a couple of the Wavestation type programs. What about solo and ensemble brass, saxophones, solo strings, choirs, steel string and electric guitars, electric basses etc etc....

    • @darwiniandude
      @darwiniandude  2 роки тому +3

      Yeah, I’d agree with that. I have a Motif XS actually. No one keyboard is the best at EVERYTHIG, which makes it easy for me to have quite a few :)
