      Hi @Asma, I'll be the first to post if there is a shift in prices, competitiveness, or inventory in Oakland. Hang in there!

    What about Rockridge (Piedmont Ave), Piedmont, and Montclair!?

    • @livinginthebayarea
      @livinginthebayarea  3 роки тому +2

      @juliana thank you! So, Piedmont is its own city, it's not a neighborhood of Oakland, BUT I will do a video on Piedmont in the future. I've actually been working on another neighborhoods video for 2021, which includes Montclair and Rockridge/Upper Rockridge. I was waiting for things to open back up =)

    I love how you picked neighborhoods on both sides of Piedmont Ave, but not Piedmont Ave neighborhood itself...lol.

    Everything in the Laurel are now selling for over 1 million!

    • @livinginthebayarea
      @livinginthebayarea  3 роки тому +1

      MLS (what realtors use that feeds into the other app services) results: Over the last 90 days, the median price in the Laurel property for single family homes has gone up to $901,000. Yes, nuts that this market has changed so much in the past 6-8 months. The lowest sold price was 3715 Kansas (2 bed/1 bath, 768 sq feet) for $650,000. The highest sold price was 3735 Redding (4 beds, 2 baths 1544 sq feet) which sold for 1.1 million and was only on the market for 4 days. The median sold price for single family homes over the last 90 days was higher in the upper Dimond (1.2ish million) and redwood heights (1.33 million). Lincoln Highland median home price over the last 90 days is even higher.

    Beautiful video 👍But on the topic itself, you could NOT pay me to live in the city of Oakland, let alone take out a mortgage to buy a home there in 2023 post pandemic. You need to update this video with the crime and other issues that are taking place in Oakland as it would be a disservice to potential buyers that are coming from out of state and have no idea what is taking place. In my humble opinion, respectfully.

      Hi Sergio! Thanks so much for watching, and it’s always helpful to have folks who are Bay Area locals (or who have lived in Oakland) contribute for the benefit of others, especially those out-of-towners you mentioned who do not yet have “Bay Area goggles” on. I do have a more updated video about “the worst things about living in Oakland” that speaks to some of the issues you have mentioned here. It is disheartening to NOT see positive changes from the relatively higher property taxes we pay (base rate + special assessments), sales tax, development impact fees, other $$$ that supposedly goes to city infrastructure and redevelopment. A struggling economy means higher crime across the board, Oakland is expansive, and while news tends to highlight the negative, numerous topics about the history of Oakland and its current state should be explored in other videos.

    what are your thoughts on living in northgate - waverly area?

    • @livinginthebayarea
      @livinginthebayarea  2 роки тому

      @jimbotron3000 apologies for the late reply. Pros: great because it's conveniently located in terms of access to restaurants, bars, grocery stores....and not too far from the lake. There is quite a bit of development/new construction (build to lease) closer to the Whole Foods Market. The area is also in the center of several major thoroughfares, so you have the cons of living close to those (noise, trash,higher density, etc), especially closer to the freeway (980). There are more parks and greenery as you get closer to the lake.

    Where in the Oakland hills would it be safe to live ?

    • @livinginthebayarea
      @livinginthebayarea  2 роки тому

      Every neighborhood in every city in the Bay has crime, especially petty crime (car break ins, theft). To say that any one neighborhood is completely immune to that would be incorrect. But yes, geography does play a role in the frequency of such crime. The Oakland Hills are expansive (typically we talk about the Oakland Hills as the neighborhoods above the HWY 13). Upper Rockridge, Claremont Hills, Montclair, Piedmont Pines are all in-demand areas because of the views, the landscapes, the elementary schools, and the difficulty of quick access from the other HWYs.

    What about meadowbrook/San Antonio district ? I think that one is a very early up and coming area. Right near fruitvale and lake Merritt and filled with beautiful rolling hills and victorians

    they are not telling the truth about Oakland. Lake Merritt is not a place to walk around at night, just try it and see what happens. lot of homeless people, under the freeways.

    • @montymason1647
      @montymason1647 Рік тому +3

      I have walked around Lake Merritt at night for years, stopping at any number of restaurants at or near the lake for dinner. There are two "freeways" near Lake Merritt but not on Lake Merritt, so either you do not really know Lake Merritt at all or you are distorting urban geography for "some" ideological agenda. Further, there are "homeless" people in the Golden Gate park one block from where I live in San Francisco, in the Central Park, Fort Tryon, and Prospect Park in NYC where I used to live, as well in similar areas in Toronto, London, Paris, et al.
      As for "just try[ing] and see what happens" [ i.e., walking around Lake Merritt during the sunset/evening] I have done so with my friends who live in Oakland, alone, and with people with whom I have no relation or relationship other than walking around the lake at sunset or evening. Nothing happened but our lollygagging at the Lake Chalet, Sidebar, Portal restaurants.
      Somebody is definitely "lying" here, but that person is neither the "they" you falsely accuse nor I.
