In Las Vegas, in 1977 I had the privilege to talk with Rodney Dangerfield, who was appearing at the Tropicana where I stayed. He was such a wonderful man, who gave up his time to talk with people. You couldn't meet a better person. I was very sad of his passing. R.I.P.
Carson had no issues with Hope leaving after his spot, but it was the fact that Bob was old News. In his 80's, hard of hearing, lousy eyesight, and needed q-cards for everything, making an interview a major effort. I think Johnny and Frank liked each other and Frank came to his aid more than once as Carson was once a heavy drinker and caused trouble when drunk.
Johnny Carson was the poster child of how money, ego, status and appeasement can destroy the fragile human mind. Carson was a poisonous plant that just grew from all the wrong types of feeding. He just became so full of himself when in reality he passed out of the generation of anyone who gave a crap anymore and needlessly became a nutty recluse. Imagine being worth a half a billion dollars and not enjoying anything, whew!!, what a way to go!! In contrast, just look at Jay Leno and how much of a personable guy he is and just how he's still entertaining us and enjoying himself to the hilt😮
It was a shame how Sinead O’Connor’s life turned out. She had an incredible voice and the reason she cut her hair was so that her feminine appeal would not be what defined her. That she ended up sleeping out of her car later in life is just awful. As for what she did on SNL, the delivery was poor and not well thought out; but the message she sent was the correct one. I don’t know if she realized the forever impact it would have on her career, but perhaps she did know and believed that it was a hill worth dying on. Pretty tough to hold that sort of courage and grit against someone.
