My mate Mike Charters told me about this song back in 86 in a pub in Devonshire Row just off Bishopsgate London. Mike was a great bloke, he never made it past 42 but i can still see him putting this record on the jukebox with his pint of Beamish in his hand . R.IP. Mike you were a card.
Beamish. Man I miss Beamish. Hard to get in the states. Had it plenty when I went to Ireland. Loved to go back and forth with Guinness there. Both dreams of a drink. I'm 42. And damn lucky to be alive. This song I can picture someone listening to while drinking a pint of Beamish to. Cheers to your friend. Anybody lost that brings smiles and memories is a great loss. Best to you. Your memory sparked memories in me.R.I.P. to your friend. He had great taste.
Beamish? Will you fuck off
The Bull?
God Rest Mike,what a song
Ha ha always arguing with the barman about the price of a pint! €4.10 I paid yesterday in bantry cork 😮
My favourite song...Reminds me of Jill, my late wife. loved her to bits.

Don't be silly.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Today Shane, the day of your funeral in Ireland, I wish you a safe journey home to heaven. I’m now in Asia, and my heart aches for you. Thank you, son of Erin for all the wonderful music. Brian.
One of the best songs ever written. Ever, ever, ever.

The irish songs are the most powerful and melancholy
My grandfather told me we thrive on happy songs of war and sad songs of love.
The Irish people: All their wars were merry, and all their songs were sad.
@@PatIreland did you know a Irish man James hoban who designed the white house in 1782 and a Irish man named John Barry founded the US navy in 1787 ...Halloween ...st Patrick's day. .the modern submarine. .Irish are the best of north west European

RIP Shane. Proper legend. Genius
Singer, songwriter, storyteller. Your music played huge part in my childhood. You lived your own way unapologetically. Rest easy Shane.
You left out genius
First time I've heard this one. So touching......
Poet! Cannot deny that he was a poet first and foremost. Uncommon amongst the uncommon in Irish literature and musical culture. The measurer of our dreams!
One of the most beautiful songs ever
This is my favourite Pogues song. RIP Shane and thank you for the music. It'll never die....
Nobody could sing melancholy as though it were a joyous thing anywhere near as good as Shane McGowan. Wherever he is I hope he's with Kirsty McColl raising merry hell and singing loudly and drunkenly. RIP
Such a beautiful song it brings a tear to my eye - a great song by a great songwriter thanks for everything Shane !
RIP Shane. Legend, poet, musical genius and this is one of the greatest songs ever written
A little piece of me died with you, who will sing me those songs now? See you in heaven, if they’ll let me in.
Do better then while you can
A vulnerable and wild man, but loveable and made some of the greatest music. Lots of feeling and soul, RIP Shane😢
My thoughts exactly
So beautiful… what a melody! and such bittersweet lyrics.
You’ll be missed dearly
Rest easy Shane 🥀🔥
Never a truer word spoke❤❤❤❤❤❤
It. Will live. On. And. On. What. A complete. Masterpiece.
RIP, Shane. No one captured the modern Irish immigrant experience quite like you, with all the joys and ecstasy and heartache and loneliness. A poet for all those heartbroken by the world. And that doesn't even touch upon what you contributed to Irish Republicanism. There'll never be another one like you.
Such of stirring vice always made you feel things
Hello, just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers today! Watched Shane's send off and have been touched and in tears! Rest easy Shane, you lived well! I watched the documentary on i player and learned a lot about you and your family and history. You live on for always, music is for always,as you are now part of history and tradition. My heart goes out to all your loved ones and all that worked with you and friends that were fortunate enough to share your company! I will light a candle in your memory
Probably the greatest song ever written. IRISH MARK.

Kentish Town, all the pubs emptied at 8.30 I asked the barman where everyone was going he said Shanes playing up the road, I did not have a ticket but gave the man on the door twenty quid and he let us in, he came on two hours late a totally smashed it, what a presence what a legend.
The Irish version of Ozzy Osborne. So much talent, so much a troubled soul but that’s how they got through life…and gave pleasure from their talent. God bless you & keep you Shane.
Rest in peace Mr MacGowan, may your soul live on forever and ever. 🇮🇪
We will miss him. His lyrics are and will be unforgettable. Thank you
Maybe the more beautiful song of all time. Shane MacGowan is the greatest Irish poet. He's gone but his songs are eternal. There are love, love and love. I miss you so much Shane. I love you.

News just broke. RIP Shane. Will be sadly missed. It's a very rainy day for all your family, friends and fans.
The greatest song of all time . The greatest one because it talks about life and death , happiness and misfortune.
Being a student living in Camden town back in the late 80’s early 90’s and seeing Shane in the Camden Head drinking away just like a local his loss hits hard. So glad I was young at that time.
Love Pogues ❤️It's my childhood - need my old world back
Nick cave did a great job but only Shane can sing this. Measure of my dreams!! Wow😢
