I genuinely must have watched this video well over 200 times over the years. Just coming back for another fill. Some of the tastiest, grooving and most badass guitarage ever recorded. Absolute moment captured in time. Timeless.
Many like Gales, but I think that few realise what a musical genius the man is

It's strange. As a drummer listening him hes great but when you watch him you wander how the fuck cos hes so stiff... technique looks so awful but he is great. He looks like a beginner playing a gig but sounds like a seasoned pro.

Eric Gales is such a badass!! It's like anything that comes into his head, he can play it. And to think he's been around forever, yet a lot of people have never heard of him.
That reverse string arrangement gives such a unique tone to his playing. What an incredible guitarist!

He didn't re-string his guitar, he plays it completely upside down, so there is no difference in tone.
+JamZ When downstrokes are played by making upstrokes they cause different sound.
All strings are cylindrical, so picking down its the same and no matter what how you put the strings like right ou left-handad

Fernando García Check out his 1991 debut album entitled “The Eric Gales Band”. He was 16 at the time and was blowing minds! Phenomenal guitarist with a TREMENDOUS amount of musicianship.

I have been a fan since I saw Eric Gales Band in Houston in 1991! It was lit and back then I was enjoying making mix tapes for my friends and turning them onto good stuff they didn't hear everyday😎 mix tapes lol, yeah I'm an old bird but a huge live music supporter!
@thomasbonds131 did you manage it? I’ve seen him 3 times live now. First time, literally had my mouth on the floor the whole time. Second time, it was a sit down performance and cried due to how beautiful he made his guitar sound. Third time, he was with his regular band and Ladonna, no words. He’s bloody world-class in this recording, but live he’s just Eric-class. Unbelievable to witness. If you haven’t seen him yet already, find when he’s next touring and book it today. Genuinely life changing experience.

His technique is SO STRONG and CLEAR. What an incredible guitarist. The most beautiful Strat tone combined with emotional and technical skill I have ever heard. I could listen to him for hours but at my age I don't think my heart could take it. Devastating. Only John Williams and Wes Montgomery have filled me with such awe. Who has a Fender Stratocaster Artist Strat named after them when this guy doesn't? He's the only endorsement they need. If only Leo could have lived to hear what this guy makes his prize invention sound like.

In every clip I watch of Mr Gales, he doesn't seem to play with the same musicians twice. He must get through them at a rate of knots. I know that trying to keep up with The Great Man would blow my mind.

Freakin great work on orchestrating this medley. Musicianship in this group is top notch and Eric, while technically amazing, the feel and groove he has around the guitar is whet impresses me. There’s a confident swagger in his playing, Eddie, Stevie and Jimmie had it. This kind of skin hugging rhythm , natural and free like a ball bouncing.

Parabéns também os músicos brasileiros que acompanharam Eric, todos músicos sensacionais! Tenho vindo a acompanhar alguns grandes guitarristas brasileiros, aprecio bastante o cenário músical aí no brasil muito à frente do nosso aqui em Portugal.. Um abraço de Portugal

I am thoroughly impressed. This is really the first I've heard of Eric Gales. He's an incredible player. He's got the (Jimi) chops in spades, but he makes this song his own. We'll alright, it's a medley, which isn't exactly a song, but still It will take a few listens to grasp all the ideas he's packed in here. A couple areas needing more exploration: (1) I like the flourishes, though sometimes they feel a little light. Like, you gotta play fast to get anyone's attention these days, I know. But, I've seen Gary Clarke, Jr. and he's never in any hurry at all. (2) I'm not convinced he can sustain a consistent vibe other than "what an amazing guitar player". I am definitely going to give him time to sink in.

U know that it is , if you can't own it then you may as well be a MiME. I would guess that the best lose their way occasionally and being aware of where you are vs where you want to be is what improvisation is all about. After listening to 3 of his diddies only 2 would i say kept my attention.
