    I love that last message too! "It's better to be an original, than a copy". That hits so hard especially because today the media seems to want you to fit into a mold rather than making yourself the best you! I'm so glad the speaker insisted on saying that health comes first. Women being told that they focus too much on appearance is still a pervasive, insidious problem and a damaging mixed message. Women's worth today (I live in the US) is still primarily, if not solely, based on looks. Thus, women are taught to put in much more effort; we're also criticized for putting in effort, whether the fashionable phrase is 'too focused on appearance/weight', 'too high maintenance', or 'makeup is false advertising'. Wear whatever the hell you want and make yourself happy first. Let's get out of the mixed-messages rat race.
    Also, what hairstyle to wear for a round face? A flat top lolololololololol

    That Mary is nice, but this Mary would like to add some tips for face shapes.
    Instead of trying to conceal or "change" your face shape, here are some tips to "beautify" your face shape without changing it:
    For round faces, long hair actually looks awesome, as well as bangs because you have "room" to add them to your face. For example, longer hair tends to pull down face shapes and make your face look longer. People with round faces can afford to style this way, though, because their face is perfectly squidgy enough to do so. (Is it obvious yet that I also love round faces? Too bad I have an oval shape,. Speaking of...)
    For oval faces, apparently anything looks good. I disagree. I look miserable with pulled back hair looks as it makes me look like a horse. "Why the long face?" and all that. However, I think people with oval faces look awesome with long hair styled in waves or curls as it widens the face and adds dimension without changing your shape.
    Square faces are too often neglected in women as some think they are "too manly". I think they are perfect for side bangs and texture. Soft curls that face away from the face show off their amazing jawlines, as well. PS: a dark red hair colour always looks good on square faces. Don't ask me why or how, I don't know, it just does.
    Heart face shapes are so freakin' pretty, ugh! They look stunning with deep side bangs, straight hair, and high ponytails. Personally, I also think heart shapes look amazing in dark colours like black or dark blue.

    • @Avarioth
      @Avarioth 5 років тому +4

      Oh wow! I have a square (or at least square'ish) face, and I've always told hair dressers I need to have hair either swept across one eye or side bangs, cause I look kinda silly otherwise and I just recently began curling my hair with a flattening iron (away from the face in front) and dyed my hair dark red and was shocked at how much better I look! You're supernatural, man :D

    • @anceptus

    • @semiramisbonaparte1627
      @semiramisbonaparte1627 4 роки тому +1

      they aren't "rules"..it's a science. If you want to create the illusion of a different face shape this is how to do so and it is a proven fact that some things fare better on certain shapes, sizes, etc. It's not saying your face shape is wrong so change it..its giving tips based on facial structure. Also every era has things that are considered "in" like bushy eyebrows or the thin ones from the 1930s, or how now the long lashes and plump lips are "in"...if you're comfortable with yourself great but if you have personal "unflattering" features and wish to conceal them without plastic surgery this is great advice to follow. Most teens are cliquish and want to fit in so whatever is in vogue will set the "beauty standards". This video kind of alludes to that since the lady keeps reassuring girls to be comfortable with themselves and not just do it to fit in so she covered all the bases flawlessly IMO. People now just don't like constructive criticism and we are in the individualist age where everyone is told everything goes, everyone is beautiful, obesity is okay, feminism bullshit etc. so there's no real pressures to fit a certain standard or put in the effort to reach a specific ideal. Women have gotten lazy and its easier to get defensive and dismissive when your appearance is brought into question rather than taking heed and taking the extra steps to look your absolute best and reach your best potential. I personally like changing my look, trying different things, accentuating or downplaying certain features depending on the occasion etc. Again there are no set "RULES" other than those set by nature on your body but there are FORMULAE to alter and "bend" said rules if desired or necessary

    • @rubizelmurgatroyd7893
      @rubizelmurgatroyd7893 4 роки тому +2

      @@semiramisbonaparte1627 The person you're replying to is simply saying she loves her own face shape and doesn't think there's a REASON to alter it to fit some "ideal" that other people came up with. Who says the oval shape is ideal anyway? What's unflattering to some is not unflattering to others. Tips like this are meant to get your face closer to some composite average face type that someone, somewhere decided was ideal, but that doesn't take away from the fact that what is "ideal" is different from person to person. I think some extreme face types, like the square shape found on Olivia Wilde, or the heart shape found on Christina Ricci or Reese are beautiful, and it would seem outlandish to me to suggest they ought to work on smoothing out their edges to look more oval.

    I'll admit, my posture was pretty bad all the way through high school, and then I got into martial arts in college and actually gained over an inch in height because my posture had improved so much. What's funny is that once you get used to good posture, bad posture literally causes pain.
    And your round face is sweet and adorable, don't change!
    On a side note, when I first showed an interest in makeup, my mother took me to a Dillard's, specifically the Clinique counter, and had the woman there give me advice/instruction. She told me NOT to wear my makeup like hers, that she was paid to wear it that heavily, but that I should always remember that makeup is for accentuating your natural features, NOT to make a new face. I always try to remember that.

    personally, I believe that the most important for all those rules of how you should present based on your shape should be more seen like "how stuff affect your appearence and what to choose to show how you want to be seen" I feel like it's quite outdated for everyone to try and emulate ovale face and hourglass shape, but it's important to know how you could do it if you want to. I think the kibbe body type test is quite interesting to look at and to see how you could emphasis or subdue certain parts of your shape

    I literally turn this video on when I need my butt kicked into picking my space back up! I love seeing your face react to all her quips. She's a little bit savage here and there, lmao!

    I like both your usual and the vintage hairstyles on you. The vintage one needs a poodle skirt to finish off the look. Thank you for doing this video. I can now see the difference better than the drawings.

    Beyond the ideas of good health being the foundation for beauty, I like the analogy about icing and cake because to me, it's more about inner beauty vs outer beauty; the cake itself being your personality and joy and love, and the icing being the superficial qualities like dyed hair and makeup. If the cake isn't good, you'll soon lose interest in the "icing".

    That was a lot of fun, and I agree with you on the hair style! Although Mary thought you should look a particular way, it didn't account for personality. You are such a delightful young womman. 😊

    Gotta say Mary seems a little uptight, but I like that she seems to value taking care of your clothes and shoes, polishing them, fixing holes and tears... I'm old fashioned in that respect.

    I have round face and double chin and I never wear my hair up because it accentuates my face shape and lack of neck to chin deviation.

    I mean... it does make your face look more oval, but if you don't like it then what is the point? Also, my grandma was in elementary to middle school during the 40s. When she worked she wore SO MUCH BLUE EYESHADOW! She's a blond with blue eyes.

    This was around World War 2. So rationing of many products was still happening. A minimalist/utilitarian style was taken at that time with everything. It occurred with things like food, clothing, personal goods, hygiene, and transportation. (Just to name a few.) Women would even draw a line on the backs of their legs to look like their hosiery.

    When you completed the minimal makeup (which greatly influenced my mom & her mother) you looked like Snow White, so pretty. Later, with your hair up you did look fantastic but we also like your daily look too. You have the very desirable large facial features so many women want-big eyes, full lips, and a good nose. Thank you!

    What about a little height on top but still down? Like a half do? You’d still get the benefit of the length but not so severe. I actually look really severe with a hairstyle like that so a half up looks much prettier.

    About face shapes it always frustrates me that make up tutorials are trying to disguise us. "If your face is long you have to... " "if your face is square then... " like, why do you want us all to look the same? Same face, nose, eyes shape?! I love that you respect the charm on everyone
