Crazy I have to say this... But love how realistic and straight forward you are. Definitely mold and bacteria everywhere. Wait until people find out how gross commercial equipment is.
@@richardbae9975 My son who is an HVAC and commercial refrigeration tech will never order his drinks with ice. He says you don’t want to know what lurks inside commercial ice makers.
I’m a 64 year old woman - not mechanical at all, but your instructions were perfect. It took me a few hours, but my ice maker is working almost like new. Thanks for taking the time to show and explain every step.
Just want to add, for anyone looking at getting one of these,,,, during Amazon Prime days it was discounted $200. Of course we bought one a month earlier, but am completely happy with it.
Thanks for the great video. Ours asks for a cleaning cycle once a week. If I use white vinegar, I get white hard water scale flakes rinsing out. Never see anything when I use bleach.
I added some occasional cleaning using ice-maker descaler (lactic acid), acid helps break down mineral deposits like calcium and lyme, but bleach is going to work best for algae and mold (biological build-up). The water filter doesn't really do anything because we already use filtered water to supply the ice maker, suggesting the algae and mold is probably airborne or within the system one way or the other.
Just filtered tap water from the fridge, you can try using distilled water to reduce scale build up (hard water) but I don't have too much of a problem with mineral deposits
You don't have to do this, I'm sure most hotels and restaurants probably don't haha. Remember we are the apex predators of the food chain, mold, not so much, although eventually mold will win when we die.

Guess, what, 3 years after getting the 2.0 this version is still going strong!
Try using rice in container with a tad of soap and water. Swish around and rinse really well.

Question, Where did you get that white filter at? Mine did not come with it.
GE sells the filter, there are also 3rd party ones: www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-PROFILE-OPAL-NUGGET-ICE-MAKER-WATER-FILTER-ACCESSORY-P4INKFILTR
Does your ice maker ever say defrost? Ours is doing this. I cleaned as instructed and it still won't make ice. Defrost comes on?
Mine is doing same thing...ran so many cleaning cycles and it goes to defrosting and won't make ice
No, might have a problem with the compressor or coils, I'd contact GE
What kind of water do you use

GE recommends weekly sanitation and monthly descaling
Damn, what a mess these things are. But I love me ice
