I much prefer the Cap's playing for demos and reviews. Don't get me wrong, Rob is an absolute beast of a guitar player but Lee has this laid-back feeling in his playing, which lends itself to prolonged listening situations like reviews.
I think that his playing just oozes with feeling and taste. He doesn't implement crazy scales or technique in his style but less is more here. What he does play, he plays with such finesse that he just doesn't need to add any extravagance in terms of technique or theory to keep it interesting.
***** I guess it all comes down to what you're looking for in a player. Some get stimulated by tonal and technichal variations and others by variation in touch and feel. They are two very good and very different guitarists.
I like Cap's slower, more blues-like playing, than Rob's shredding. After a while shredding can get boring, but a good slow blues solo gets me every time.
As a reference for demo's, Lee's repetitive playing is of great value! When Lee plays the same kinda licks every time, it makes it easier to hear the subtle differences between settings on pedals, guitars and amps... 'cuz you've heard him play the same thing over and over and over again. I'm pretty sure that's why he does it. Monkeylord is a shredder and when he tries to play other styles he also always plays the same licks over and over... .
Horacio garcia-it is still a squier, just with good electronics. That said, it is still only a squier. If he ever wanted to sell it he would lose money on electronics, due to then being in a squier.
Capt ist time for me ....glad you do what you do. tht you hold homage to the blues a magnificent genre choice. all that is not puffing for you. It just hits the right way for natural law of life to feel good about. Thanks for giving us enjoyment in your efforts to both inform the world and to be entertaining doing it.
I never cared much for EHX, don't like their preamp tubes, never a big fan of their pedals, but I admit their past few pedals they've released have been pretty great. That's a killer blues drive pedal. Great tone through that Mark 5.
Seems like you guys have been very busy lately! Love the Captain blues! The pedal sounds quite excellent as well! Always a good day when you see an andertons vid popping up! Thanks guys, have a great week!
Funny... I just did a demo of this pedal and by pure accident I also used a Mesa Mark V:25.... what do they say? Brilliant minds think alike? No, that's not the saying... I don't like the reverbs though.... the SOUL FOOD is killer, the reverb could be a who lot more useful... it muddies up and is really not on the subtle side...
Though you're not wrong, this thing sounds great with tubes, I've used a soul food in front of a solid state amp to make it sound tube like in a pinch. And it's great for boost or dynamic shifts in a song (not just for clean amps is what I'm saying)
Does the reverse reverb go 100% wet? if it does, the order toggle switch almost makes this My Bloody Valentine in a box. By the way, Captain, listen to MBV if you wanna know how reverse reverb is used! Kevin Shields = genius.
Can you do more of these style without chappers plz? .... sick of seeing pretty much metal guitar reviews or new les paul reviews, this was amazingly refreshing
Hey cap! Aside from he obvious blues scales and practicing , is there anything in particular you studied to play like you do? That subtle laid back blues is where I wanna be with my playing.
great. Shame that it doesn´t have the FLERB switch of the HolyGrail pedal . Not cheap though . 200+ . Maybe get a A mini HOF plus any OD pedal of your choice
Love the videos guys, keep up the good work. Quick question, I have a modded 1954 Masco PA amplifier, basically the exact amp lee described in the video. I had made up my mind on purchasing a TC Spark/HOF for this exact purpose (boost and reverb). My question is, does the turnip do these things as well as, if not better than the TC equivalent? Thanks!
Pretty cool for someone who wants a really simple setup with just one pedal since it doesn't give you the option to put anything between your drive and reverb. Maybe a tuner in front of it :)
It's his custom guitar from the custom guitar challenge with Chappers, Rob's is the LTD T-type in the background! It has a special pickup set with the Clapton-mid-boost-circuit in it, if i got that right! look it up, really great challenge! 600 pounds for a complete guitar for that budget (like a Mexico Fender) versus a more affordable guitar and using the rest to mod it!
+Samuel S H K Musical squier, although being focused towards more affordable guitars, has some top of the line beauties I'd put right up there with the fenders :)

Would any of you recommend the MXR Distortion III or the ibanez 7th Heaven pedal as my first pedal, if so which one? Thanks!
I use a Marshall MG15CFX solid state amp. Are there reverb and delay pedals that would work on such an amp? I ask this because I've heard Captain mention this a few times where solid state amps won't work as well with pedals.
Depending on gain implementation, most drive pedals with suck with SS amp, however reverb and delay should work no problems if you have an effects loop in your amp (thats where you shoudl plug reverb and delay).
The amp contains just on guitar input and foot controller input. The others are headphones and MP3 and nothing around the back. No effects for me? :( The amp has reverb and delay but nothing compared to what a pedal can produce.
i think what he meant, was more towards the low gain amps..which are usually also low watt..i believe he says that because this is a pedal that will give a bit of warmth and sprkly drive to a clean sound..not really that usable with a high gain amp in my opinion...but try it out, see what you think..
I prefer lee's playing for demos. He plays slower tempo links and holds notes so you can hear in a real easy and plain way exactly what the pedal does.
rfelton77 I like it when other people use it. For my playing not so much cuz it doesn't fit my style. When you demo gear, any gear, I prefer slower players. I enjoy other players who play different styles other than mine. I don't see the hypocrisy.
Hey what kind of peddle do I need to get a better sound out of my high end (g,b,e) my pickups are dark with plenty of low end sound but the high end is rather dull. Low budget to work with currently using line 6 spider4 15w amp guitars a a no name telecaster clone from the 60s I upgrade over the years with some hot dragonfire phat screamers humbuckers also have a Digitech rp55 as my only peddle at the moment and it's sound just as cheep as it costed😓
if pickup raising on the treble strings doesn't help enough then i would try something different. take the tone pot out of the circuit. still not satisfied then you could wire your humbucker coils in parallel. you will lose low end and increase high frequencies. i really think this should solve your problem.
With the greatest of respect us mortals with cheap tube amps won't lay out 160 sheets for a pedal when our amps cost little more haha can pick up a Mesa boogie 50 cal for nearly the same pennies as that pedal used
I'm a really big fan of the Anderton's videos, but why is the sound always so dull ? It's every amp with every guitar, there's never a little sparkle, almost like the tone knob in the guitars is turned down... So weird !
It may also be audio--->mic--->receiver--->video editing software--->compressed into file for youtube--->to youtube---->out of what ever system you have. If we were all there with him, I have absolutely no doubt that sparkle would be there!! Awesome playing Mr. Captain!!!
Where is Chappers? It does not feel rigtht------------I miss the shredding. Don't get me wrong, I love the bluesiness of the Captain which is actually better than Chappers blues.
I don't know. I tried the soul food through a two rock exo-15, katana > soul food > od808 with custom shop 69 pick ups in my strat and I thought it sounded like dog shit. More power to the people that use it and like it though.
Dude! When did you relocate your demo room to an ocean liner? Put the camera on a tripod and leave it there. It made me feel sick. Great content otherwise and we'll presented as ever.
I do not like the distortion and the bend at 4:06 was way too much like Chappers. I suspect the captain is being influenced by the Chap. BTW, the verb is great!
I much prefer the Cap's playing for demos and reviews. Don't get me wrong, Rob is an absolute beast of a guitar player but Lee has this laid-back feeling in his playing, which lends itself to prolonged listening situations like reviews.

Theo Möll I agree, Rob is obviously more technical with his playing but definitely lacks the feel that Lee has.
i like rob because he plays a bunch of different things
IMO Captain's tone is almost ALWAYS better. Rob is a nasty beast haha. Killing it on guitar but too trebly for me.
***** I guess it all comes down to what you're looking for in a player. Some get stimulated by tonal and technichal variations and others by variation in touch and feel. They are two very good and very different guitarists.

...and he's playing a Squier! That is SO cool. Proving that ANYONE can have fun with tone/colorful sounds!!!
Brilliant ... and thanks for the prologue ... that cleared up a lot for me. Cheers.
As a reference for demo's, Lee's repetitive playing is of great value! When Lee plays the same kinda licks every time, it makes it easier to hear the subtle differences between settings on pedals, guitars and amps... Capt Lee, the pluckiness of the stone pick sounds.......AWESOME!! Keep up the Blues. You make me want to play more!
Such a great blues touch in his fingers!
That overdrive sound is spot on for some hard edge blues Stevie Ray Vaughan style.
That is a great sound. I love that the Captain uses a Squier Strat for the demo.
It's his custom squier. It has Seymour Duncan pickups and an eric Clapton mid boost circuit, so it's not really a squier
Horacio garcia-it is still a squier, just with good electronics. That said, it is still only a squier. If he ever wanted to sell it he would lose money on electronics, due to then being in a squier.
First time I’ve heard a Boogie described as a “Little Tube amplifier”
U Rock Capt.!!!
I have to say that I like the videos with both Rob and the Captn... I like to hear both view point to and playing styles with the demo gear.

Thanks for the demo!!
The soul food through my ac30 is literally Pop Punk in a box and its AMAZING! I really want one of these now haha.
Hey Rob thabjs so much for posting so often recently, we really appreciate your effort and love the videos! :))
Thabjs..... ;P haha
Nice systematic demo. Much appreciated.
Haha captain always playing that same lick! Haha. Love these guys
it really makes the guitar sing a lot
Great pedal and great tone Lee.
Awesome video. Pedal looks heaps of fun. Really like that reverse order. Sounds mega.
I agree, I think it sounds much more interesting the "wrong" way round.
Seems like you guys have been very busy lately! Love the Captain blues! The pedal sounds quite excellent as well! Always a good day when you see an andertons vid popping up! Thanks guys, have a great week!
Cool Sounding pedal.
And I am loving the little tips along the way that really help out nubes like me. Drive before reverb. Check!
This is how you review a pedal, great video!
Wow. You've come a long way.
That turnip sounds pretty nice. :) I like Captain's playing more too because i am more blues guy too.
The bad distortion could also be the thin Strat sound. In any event at 5:36 when the Captain used the Clapton boost the tone got MUCH better.
Nice Demo, Capt.! I like a lot your taste in tones
EHX really had a great 2014!
Though you're not wrong, this thing sounds great with tubes, I've used a soul food in front of a solid state amp to make it sound tube like in a pinch. And it's great for boost or dynamic shifts in a song (not just for clean amps is what I'm saying)
I run one of these through a fender Greta, pure heaven
EHX are such an underrated company !!
Electro Harmonix ftw!
You know it! I wouldn't use any other tubes!
For some reason I have a craving to add more greens in my diet.
I hate most pedals, but this actually sounds good.
Breaking News!!! The Cap't goes solo!!! story of the breakup to follow-stay tuned!!
I find the soul food is good on solid state amps too.
Does the reverse reverb go 100% wet? if it does, the order toggle switch almost makes this My Bloody Valentine in a box. By the way, Captain, listen to MBV if you wanna know how reverse reverb is used! Kevin Shields = genius.
It does! I wanna buy this pedal now and put a Rat in that effects loop to make some weird reverse reverb noises.
Can you do more of these style without chappers plz? .... sick of seeing pretty much metal guitar reviews or new les paul reviews, this was amazingly refreshing
GEARMANNDUDE!
Ever thought of reviewing the Luther Drive?
Hey cap! Aside from he obvious blues scales and practicing , is there anything in particular you studied to play like you do? That subtle laid back blues is where I wanna be with my playing.
Haha I love how Lee always plays the same riff
loving the Captain's blues!
great. Shame that it doesn´t have the FLERB switch of the HolyGrail pedal . Not cheap though . 200+ . Maybe get a A mini HOF plus any OD pedal of your choice
The Captain sure knows how to get a tone
Is that a cigarette burn on the headstock, or has someone got a wee bit of blackberry jam on it?
So I noticed Lee's playing a squire. What are y'all's opinions on Squire's vs the MIM? worth the extra cash for the MIM or is a good Squire worth it?
Man Lee's tone is so nice! Anyone know what they're using to mic his amp?
Cap'n needs someone with a Hammond organ to sit in and play some chords for those smooth blues licks to glide over...
That playing he does at 1:32 is it a real song or just some darn good jamming? ;)
Hey Rob, what mics do you use on the cabs?
I think you never reviewed the mexican classic series 50 and 60 not laquer! You were been concentred on squier mostly
i can always tell what cap's going to play before he plays it
Is there a drive+reverb and/or a drive+delay pedal like this for heavier types of music?
Mad professor 1
Love the videos guys, keep up the good work. Quick question, I have a modded 1954 Masco PA amplifier, basically the exact amp lee described in the video. It actually does give you that option mate :)
Kyung il Jack Chung but how?
Ivan Zavarzin it has a loop.
Juan José Bolado Hadad Cool, I didn't realize that.
Decent review, what squier you using though?? Sounds quite nice.
It's his custom guitar from the custom guitar challenge with Chappers, Rob's is the LTD T-type in the background! Lee said it is for low watt tube, what about micro terrors?
i think what he meant, was more towards the low gain amps..which are usually also low watt..i believe he says that because this is a pedal that will give a bit of warmth and sprkly drive to a clean sound..not really that usable with a high gain amp in my opinion...but try it out, see what you think..
I use a soul food as a boost into a micro terror and it works great.
I had t see 6 shit reviews before this one. This is how you make a review!! Nice job.
I prefer lee's playing for demos. He plays slower tempo links and holds notes so you can hear in a real easy and plain way exactly what the pedal does.
really? on a video reviewing an overdrive pedal? hypocrite much?

Is he using a pick?
Rob please check out reverend guitars! you won't regret it
Hey Rob!
this or boss FDR1????
I don't get the hype.......rock on, man!
why is there jam on the headstock?
***** Its a real cigarette burn that was put there in a faux manner!!
I knew it wasn't really jam but I remember the video where it was mentioned now. thanks

Its probably just how I like the tone. I don't like too much fizz so I go for quite a dark tone.
It may also be audio--->mic--->receiver--->video editing software--->compressed into file for youtube--->to youtube---->out of what ever system you have. If we were all there with him, I have absolutely no doubt that sparkle would be there!! Awesome playing Mr. Captain!!!
if i buy (on andertons) the two pedal separatly i spend 170, if i buy this i spend 163. what would yo do?
I'd get them separately.
Where is Chappers? It does not feel rigtht------------I miss the shredding. Don't get me wrong, I love the bluesiness of the Captain which is actually better than Chappers blues.
why are you on Rob's channel when you have your own channel?
I don't know. I tried the soul food through a two rock exo-15, katana > soul food > od808 with custom shop 69 pick ups in my strat and I thought it sounded like dog shit. More power to the people that use it and like it though.
Bursty!
did the cap-ten just say the word shit..lol

Want.
Reverse reverb = Pink Floyd's The Wall
Or My Bloody Valentine.
Who thinks up the names,!!??
Man, I wanted to like your video, but damn the floating video camera distracted the hell outta me.
All hail the bulge!
Lmao 😂
That camera gave me nausea.
Ditto
Play some chords now and then please, too many single note phrases
sound of it, yuck
