Oi. Superb demonstration. About the name. Turnip Greens is a direct reference to the sounds of down home southern fried music. A little country, a little blues, a little rockabilly, a little jazz, a little metal, and a whole lotta Soul! The pedal does a great job. Play some Dickie Betts through it, you'll see. Or maybe Dimebag, or SRV. Y'all stay real and stay real high! Paz y luz.

Love the riff at 6.14: I always enjoy the way that trying a new pedal or setting will suggest a way of playing that can sometimes be quite different to the way one usually plays.

"Turnip Greens" - a Southern States food specialty."Turnip greens are extremely easy to grow, especially in fall. As nights get longer and cooler, turnip greens become crisper and sweeter." ..... So the pedal is appropriately named. Awesome.

I find it quite refreshing to see someone getting into pedals for the first time! Your playing is really good as well! Pedals should be used to color your sound, not bury it in a wash of noise! keep doing what you are, you are just beginning to discover the value of guitar landscaping!!!

Hi Mary and world! I was so excited and I don’t think very many people within earshot of my shouts of joy would understand! I was the winning bidder on D’Addario giving Tuesday of the ElectroHarmoniX Turnip Greens. I’ve been wanting a superior overdrive and I remembered your video when I saw this specific Turnip Greens signed by Mike Matthews! Not only do I get the fantastic OD, but also going to a good cause? I wish more of life’s decisions were so simple! Thanks for shining a light on this little Overdrive of mine… let it shine!!!!

I have the same thought process. I’m a simpleton. My friend gave me a Blessed Mother pedal for my bday. I’m thinking, “what am I gonna do with that?” I just play a tele through a peavy delta blues combo. That’s it. I’m happy with that. When I’m singing, and then go to a solo, I always hit the pedal too late at the beginning, and too late at the end.

That ability to switch the order of FX is cool. Most people would say you should place overdrive first. Generally that's true, but in the 70's Santana got some epic sounds overdriving his reverb.
I've been playing for three decades :) . You have a nice calm friendly way of presenting your videos, and as for your playing, I like the way you refrain from trying to impress, and that's great because, for one thing, it doesn't distract from sounds coming from what you are showing us.
I can tell you've been playing for a long time because you have that economy of movement in your left hand. You know how to keep it supple and fluid by relaxing the hand between shifts.
You are a natural. Don't stop playing :) Good luck with your channel!

Thank you Mary, I know what you mean about the stigma and reluctancey about pedals. Started playing when I was 12 years old, I'm 68 now, I do remember getting a wah-wah pedal at a very young age and didn't think much about it at the time, it simply served a purpose in a couple songs, Probably some Hendrix.
But now I understand the purpose they serve in developing your depth of tone and the coloring, honestly I've been looking at electro-harmonix line of pedals and have been completely blown away.
Now I'm working on my own pedal board which has been developing over the years, a looper machine, drum machine, equalizer, delay, reverb, of course a good tuner, I think you get the picture now, the electro- harmonix organ pedals and string pedals Are so much fun . Anyways I hope you're having a wonderful and safe holiday, thank you for your hard work and all that you bring to us as subscribers. Stay blessed and keep safe, much love from Texas. Danny

Great Mary! You sounded great, and it was refreshing to see a demo with a different narrative - it gets really old seeing the same old format, with pedal demos. Especially nice because you clearly weren't sponsored. I think that's what gave you the lattitude to fly your own banner. That's what gets stale about the same old same old demos... when it's just so blatant that you're being marketed at. Yours was honest & sincere. Genuine 👍 That stuff resonates with me above all else.

You need to checkout "That Pedal Show" and that will help you out with any of your technical sonic questions.
Some of the best clean sounds are from OD pedals and the guitar volume rolled back. Jimi Hendrix achieved his clean sound from a fuzz pedal and backed off guitar volume.
The soul food is a Klon clone, which is a treble booster.
Just watch "That Pedal Show" and you'll get some great info.
I'd also suggest you check out 50s style wiring on your guitars if you use the volume knob frequently to avoid muddy tone when volume is rolled back.
    Great videos by the way.

Might want to check out the Electro-harmonix B9 Pedal. With your picking style , it could be another "love" moment. :)

Bought it recently. Very high quality reverb and overdrive. My only critism is that i'd prefer a Tremelo-function over the Reverb-Inverse.
