Uri, you are a hidden UA-cam gem. The quality of your work and videos are incredible and you will get more subscribers sooner than you think! Thanks for being such an amazing maker and sharing your talents with us
Shanon Saunders thank you! Seeing you enjoying my videos makes all of this worth it, I've never been more productive and motivated to do more and better.
Uri, you are not good... you are verging on the GREAT! Keep it up, my friend. Do you have a Patreon account? If so, let me know and I'll become a patron to your channel. Brilliant!
I just love that you are decorating what you make. I feel like most people who are welding two pieces of scaffolding together and call it industrial modern, simply lack the skill to make something intricate and beautiful
It pained me to watch you remove the first carving. I thought it was great! The second carving is great too. When I look at my projects all I see is the flaws, but every project gets better and better. They act as flashes of time that serve to encapsulate my skill (lack thereof?) and motivate me to keep progressing. Great video :)
Nice video. For Japanese planes, the magic is the simplicity. The blade is the wedge and the spring of the wood is the adjustment mechanism. Next time you make a Japanese type plane, I recommend buying an orphan blade on ebay. Cheers.
Hi, my name is Michelle and I am addicted to watching art happen. I have 27 years clean and sober but just for today, it is one art project at a time. (all said with a slight grin, and all true)
Turned out as expected Uri, very very nice work. Another art piece, I hope you have a son to leave all the beautiful things you have made for our viewing pleasure. It would be very cool to see all the things you have made showcased in one place. A gallery as it were. 👍👍👍
Uri. Thank you. I have concocted a saying of sorts which applies 100% to you. 'There is a thin line between arrogance and confidence. That line is humility.'
Perfection can be an elusive quest and for most of us is never attained, but in my opinion it is an admirable quality to continue to try to achieve perfection. This is a great looking tool and I enjoyed the video very much.
Your work is amazing, 1k subs is not within 2 orders of magnitude of what this channel deserves. I hope you keep these projects coming and you'll be thanking 10k in the near future.
Mr Tuchman you are a weird, talented, entertaining, likeable polymath in the making and deserving of a much larger audience, some of them from the seventeenth century if you can turn your hand to a time machine at some point. Subscribed with a very large 'S'.
Please don't beat yourself up. You are a perfectionist, like some of us who strive for perfection and are never satisfied with just staying at one level of craftsmanship. This humble attitude and self critique is great to see, and will lead you to constantly improve your projects. After all that is said, I am in awe at how you think, design, and make things. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Hello , I am following you from Iran . I watch all your videos with enthusiasm , and I think you are a master , I really enjoyed the japanese- style lathe, I am a retiree and I do small carpentry work at home , I have learned a lot , thank you , good luck
I enjoy creating art. I also enjoy the art work of others. Your talent is obvious, your skill level will increase as you continue to create. It is the same here as with anything in life. A couple of days ago the YouYube algorithm gave me your thumbnail and I am so glad that I clicked on it. Thank you for sharing.
It's great that in august 2018, just over a year ago, you were thanking viewers for getting to 1000 subscribers... and now you're well over 100k. You deserve it Uri, I'm loving watching all your videos!
Hi Uri, watched one or two of your videos and man what quality! your honesty about your work and the product you make are are of great value. The first shaving off the pine with your new plane are very good. Thin and even across the work. A great project but now you have a great plane and possibly a very poor blade ?? Great work you are now a regular in my viewing schedule. Keep it up and dont put yourself down so much!
This is so beautiful! The way in which you create such a beautiful object from what is actually a 'banal' tool, as here again, touches me very much. It must be fantastic to work with a tool like this. I really hope and wish that you will often let us participate in such a wonderful way!
Those even, smooth rolls of shavings from that cheap blade you began with, and the beautiful results you finished with, from both carvings, you are much, MUCH too hard on yourself, you are such a talented man. You are a real Rennaisance man.
Love your channel! If you are working metals/wood in the same area or at the same time, I'd recommend wearing thin leather gloves when metal cutting. It'll keep the metal dust from transferring to your woodcuttings and prevent oxides from darkening your pieces.
I just found your channel thanks to Green Beatle, and I must say I am so pleased ! I watch a lot of craftsmen on UA-cam, and your combination of natural humor, ingeniosity, versatility, is just a great. Really Really really great, thank you for sharing these videos with us !
I actually met David Bull in his Tokyo workshop, altough i had absolutely no idea at the time who he was. I realized it was him weeks later, when i saw a photograph. He is very humble and down to earth, but at the same time a commanding presence.
Thank you very much for your videos and please don’t feel like you have to apologize so much for what you do your work is excellent because everything you do you do with minimal equipment and that is “heart and soul” which is way more pleasing and appreciated than watching someone make something with CNC automated machines. Please continue and please don’t change a thing.
I think watching you carve in metal has helped me with my wood chisel use. I like the way you really guide the path of the tool when you work in metal, and I have applied this more direct control of the path of the tool to my wood work.
When working with threads in wood . Tap them then run CA glue down them and tap them again . Makes a really tight and strong wood thread . Great stuff keep it up !
Lovely work Uri. For sharpening I often use 'Wet and Dry' Carborundum paper, 400, 600, 800, 1200 and 2000 grit. Wet the top of a Laminex table or marble chopping board and stick the Wet 'n' Dry on it. Cheap and stays flat. Keep making the beautiful creations. Cheers Duncan
"1000 subs special" - well that sure blew up fast! You deserve it, man, you're a true craftsman even if you didn't believe it yourself two years ago. It's in your blood.
Uri, you are incredible my friend. I found your channel a few days ago and love your videos. You continue to surprise me with your never ending brilliant talents. Your work is beautiful and inspiring, you are a true craftsman. Just when I think I have you figured out you paint a masterpiece then drill out its eyes. Then the next video I see you turn a cheap tool into a piece of art that is vastly superior than its original state. For carving with less than favorable tools you created something incredible. I have seen people with incredible tools produce garbage. It is not the tool that makes the craftsman. It is the person that attains the knowledge and wisdom and applies that to their trade successfully. A true craftsman inspires others to aspire for greatness. You are the inspiration for so many people including myself. For that I thank you sir, you make learning fun and interesting. Your playful side makes me feel as if I am sitting in the room with you. Please keep us all laughing, learning, and looking for what you have for us next time. Thank you so much my friend.
You do great work! Just ran across your channel yesterday and you're definetly one of my favorites on UA-cam so far. Despite being a UA-cam user since the start of UA-cam I've only subscribed to a small handful of channels (5 or 6), but you're one of them.
wood carving for a majority of us will always look a bit sloppy. It will take many years to get over that. You do a very good job. I shake too much so I get tear out a lot :(
It’s super cool that you watch David Bull! You are so humble and always looking to learn. You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs and you’ve gotten me into wood carving.
Glad I found your channel. You really should give yourself more credit though. Out of all the videos I have watched I have not only learned something but am really impressed with your skills.
It is a lovely piece of wood work, I would love to own it just as it is. Do not give yourself such a hard time because there will always be people who can do better quality work than you. However they won't have your charm, humour, love of cat's, desire to be the best you can be. I think you are amazing and enjoy your projects very much. To me you are already perfect and no one can produce what you do in the way you do it, which makes you unique.
Uri, you’re so humble, you’re craftsmanship is outstanding! I really enjoy your videos! I would like to see you do more teaching during your videos so that we can aspire to your level of workmanship.
Congratulations on the 1K, and here's to the next 1k+, it'll be 10k before you know it 😉👍 The pull plane came out looking great, and those shavings are looking good. To get shavings that good using a blade from a $10 spoke shave and sharpened with a less than perfect diamond plate shows that you did something right with the plane. Top job 👍
ᗰіɢʜѕᴛ ᗩʟʟ ᑕʀᴜᴄᴋіɴɢ ᖴіɢʜᴛʏ thank you! After making this video I've decided to ordered a water stone, I think when it arrives I'll spend a day sharpening the entire shop:)
From this self-taught woodcarver to you, my good engraver, your wood carving is pretty good. Thanks for inspiring me to make my own japanese wood plane.
Great job man! All that counts is if you think you did your best. I really respect you for starting the carving over again. I hope you and your family are doing OK during this virus thing. Those chips look really fluffy to me. I don't know how it is there, but i was just thinking that with the toilet paper shortages, this tool would come in pretty handy right about now...lol Thanks for the videos. I love them all...
I am in complete agreement with Shanon! I really enjoy your videos and have a few laughs at the same time, what's better than that. I hope you reach a million subscribers.
I seen where the Japanese make special molding from the shavings. Seems like that would be in your field of work. Personally I've work as a carpenter for 50 years and your skills amaze me
I don’t know how I came across your channel but glad I did. You do amazing work and cannot believe you don’t have 100K+ subs. Keep doing what you do and thanks for sharing. I live in USA and have access to any tool I want and still can’t produce what you do. Great Job and keep going.
It is such a treat to watch you work. I’m a huge fan a david bull. In fact, it’s because of his videos that I found your channel (for once, UA-cam’s algorithm got it right!)! Your attention to detail, your passion, your desire to push yourself to do better, and your willingness to try everything is inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing your craft.
I really love how you show the wood carving process. I hope to see more videos where you show your bas relief and sculpture in the round thought processes. I know a lot of it is practice but seeing some of the carving techniques you employed has given me ideas.
Awesome skills!! Plan ahead though! Once again you seem a bit scattered. You obviously have amazing skills a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. Relax!!!! Anyone who watches your videos will recognize your awesome skills and will respect and admire you. Stop apologising! It doesn't show humility it detracts from the experience!! You're great, accept it and bask in the glow of the admiration we all have for you! Peace, my brother craftsman.
You give yourself too little credit, your work is wonderful, with and craft combined. I'm happy to be a follower and can't wait to see your next item. Bravo!
I subbed a week ago, you got 5k in that time. I bet it's awesome to look back and see all the comments on this video pumping you up. You still deserve it man, way to go!
love your stuff. and remember, David Bull has probably been doing carvings as long as you've been alive. Love his work too he's a great carver and story teller. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Canada. Very nicely done! When you did your first cuts with the plane I found myself watching the chip coming through, moving my head along with the plane in some sort of slow-motion tennis game. Your work is inspiring. Keep at it.
Very nice try and result from a cheap spokeshave . As for the curving, well I wouldn't even try that myself, but if I would want to have a decor on it, I would cheat by cutting the design on my scroll saw and then just glue it on :) !!!
Awesome job. For sharpening, before you spend a bunch of money on stones, please look up "scary sharp" and you should see a bunch of people using fine sandpaper backed by a flat surface such as a pane of glass. Paul Sellers does a good demonstration. I bet you'll like it.
Great video Uri, I love your channel. When it comes to Japanese planes, only the long jointer planes have the back of the sole touching the surface. On smoothing planes like the length you have built, they only have 2 points of contact instead of 3.
Well done Uri, your work is really awesome and you are so genuine. I see youve gained about 70k subs in the past 7 months, i hope that triples in the next 7!
I've watched several of your videos and they are great the one with the hammer that you made with scrollwork all around it that was beautiful keep up the good work
Dude… you’re insanely critical of yourself! Loved the first carving too! Absolutely beautiful as always.
I could not agree more, Sharon Saunders.Uri is brilliant!
Uri, you are not good... you are verging on the GREAT! Keep it up, my friend. Do you have a Patreon account? If so, let me know and I'll become a patron to your channel. Brilliant!
Amen!
Shanon! I totally agree with you 100%. I just discovered Uri's channel a week ago and since than been hooked on watching his video's and want more!
An awesome teacher for people like myself that has limited resources and a honest down to earth person
Your work, style, personality and humor just all comes together - all great. Best of luck in your UA-cam journey :)
He reminds me so much of Peter Draws - UA-cam - ua-cam.com/users/Palivizumab
Whoa! 13 videos in 6 months. And every single one is amazing!
Please don't burn out on us!
I agree! You're channel reminds me of Michael Cthuhlu's channel. You are both artisans telling me what you are doing in a similar style. Love it.
I just love that you are decorating what you make. I feel like most people who are welding two pieces of scaffolding together and call it industrial modern, simply lack the skill to make something intricate and beautiful
I really love how you do your project with little to no power tools at all. You're one of the very few real craftsmen of this era.
I like that the scrap you used to make your logo piece looks like it began and quickly ended with the question: "Can I make a brass comb?"
The way you admire and are humbled by the Japanese craftsman is how most of us view you and your talent.
this is a slap to the face of all of us procrastinating on doing shit just cause we don't have all the machines and space and etc. bravo.
Genuine talent cannot be contained. And in the same hand, real students will find worthy teachers.
Blown away by the idea! Uri, Uri, my good man! You MUST make a short saw bench. SO much nicer for saw duties.
You're too humble. It's a damn good plane.
Wood is an easy medium to begin in, but exceedingly hard to master. This is an extremely good wood relief for a beginner
Turned out as expected Uri, very very nice work. Another art piece, I hope you have a son to leave all the beautiful things you have made for our viewing pleasure. It would be very cool to see all the things you have made showcased in one place. A gallery as it were. 👍👍👍

When you were carving the wood I was immediately reminded of David Bull. So cool that you mentioned him as inspiration to make an even better carving!
Your work is amazing, 1k subs is not within 2 orders of magnitude of what this channel deserves. I hope you keep these projects coming and you'll be thanking 10k in the near future.
noctrnalAndroid now he has 10 k subs😂
now 10k jaja , congratulations, you have another subscriber ;) your works are amazing!
wow, it is normaly he works very well
He's got 31k subs now, wow really fast. Great for him.
35k.. wow, I just found this channel. This guy deserves everything good that he gets.
This is a really entertaining channel. Such natural warmth and enthusiasm is infectious.
I don't know why anyone would dislike your videos, I for one enjoy your crazy projects!

I watched David Bull to... I can see why you decided to try again. That dude is crazy... good. It's nice to see how mere mortals fair at this stuff.
You have a wonderful combination of skill, humility, and innocence. Please keep making and sharing. I learn a lot plus emerge relaxed and refreshed.

It is amazing to watch perfection improve itself!!! So good! Thanks Uri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"1000 subs special" - well that sure blew up fast! You deserve it, man, you're a true craftsman even if you didn't believe it yourself two years ago. It's in your blood.
I really like that. It looks like a very doable project. Japanese wood working tools and craft is superior.
I just discovered your channel and am amazed at how incredibly skilled, humble and humorous you are! Keep the good work up Uri! :)
Uri it takes years to become a great carver, the job you did is far beyond most people can do. What a great job 👍😊

Uri, I've watched many woodworkers and tool makers but you, my friend are the best on UA-cam. Many thanks for sharing.
1,000 Likes that you worked for.
Thanks for helping us
Uri, you’re so humble, you’re craftsmanship is outstanding! I really enjoy your videos! I would like to see you do more teaching during your videos so that we can aspire to your level of workmanship.
Congratulations on the 1K, and here's to the next 1k+, it'll be 10k before you know it 😉👍
The pull plane came out looking great, and those shavings are looking good.
Just remember Uri, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Hokusai would be proud.
From this self-taught woodcarver to you, my good engraver, your wood carving is pretty good. Thanks for inspiring me to make my own japanese wood plane.
You remind me of William Osman. Just so clever and funny with a hint of goofy.
Great job man! All that counts is if you think you did your best. I really respect you for starting the carving over again. I hope you and your family are doing OK during this virus thing.
Those chips look really fluffy to me. I don't know how it is there, but i was just thinking that with the toilet paper shortages, this tool would come in pretty handy right about now...lol
Thanks for the videos. I love them all...
Awesome. I bought my cousins kids some tools for Christmas but now I’m thinking I might toss those and replace them with handmade tools
I am in complete agreement with Shanon! I really enjoy your videos and have a few laughs at the same time, what's better than that. I hope you reach a million subscribers.
Your constant desire to improve is inspiring. This is now one of my favourite channels.
I admire your reverence for the art and your commitment to the precise nature of your work. Your videos are a wonder to behold.
I seen where the Japanese make special molding from the shavings. Seems like that would be in your field of work. Personally I've work as a carpenter for 50 years and your skills amaze me

I know a lot of it is practice but seeing some of the carving techniques you employed has given me ideas.
miss you dear, cant wait for your next project
Awesome skills!! Plan ahead though! Once again you seem a bit scattered. You obviously have amazing skills a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. Relax!!!! Anyone who watches your videos will recognize your awesome skills and will respect and admire you. Stop apologising! It doesn't show humility it detracts from the experience!! You're great, accept it and bask in the glow of the admiration we all have for you! Peace, my brother craftsman.
One HELL of a good job ! Amazing plane for what you used. Don't worry your work is way better than most. You try.
Excelente ductilidad con las manos .
Una excelente terminación funcional. Mi admiración. Gracias
Amazing work! You seemed nervous but I'm impressed with how it turned out.
love your stuff. and remember, David Bull has probably been doing carvings as long as you've been alive. Love his work too he's a great carver and story teller. Keep up the good work!
Nicely done. The carving looks great. Function over form, you get a passing grade for sure.
Awesome work! Try planing soft deciduous wood like basswood or poplar for silky smooth shavings. Looking forward to the next video!
Very good, I really liked the brush you made.
Greetings from Canada. Very nicely done! When you did your first cuts with the plane I found myself watching the chip coming through, moving my head along with the plane in some sort of slow-motion tennis game. Your work is inspiring. Keep at it.
I have just discovered your channel and was amazed. I had to subscribe immediately. Really like your channel! Thumbs up. 👍👍
Amazing. You never give up, always challenging yourself to do better and pushing through your limits. Love your work.
Awesome and modest in equal measures
So humble yet super talented a true pleasure to watch you sir.
Quickly becoming my favorite channel. Very, very quickly. Excellent work
Lovely video, wonderful to watch ❤
4:56 my fav :) Uri! love your work. Its so inspiring to see such craftsmanship. Thank you.
Your dedication and commitment to scratch it and start over is amazing! Amazing and beautiful work!!
Great video Uri, I love your channel. When it comes to Japanese planes, only the long jointer planes have the back of the sole touching the surface. On smoothing planes like the length you have built, they only have 2 points of contact instead of 3.
I adore you and your work Uri. I can feel a beautiful soul inside you. Thank you x
