I recently bought the Hatfield pump 410 at a LGS. I thought there was a problem with the feed, but it was because I hadn't put the last shell in all the way. Once I figured out that, it's been great. Not a SAS but still good. Great tool. My buddy bought one at the same time (the very next serial, actually), and he sent it back and they sent him a new gun instead.
Just an update. I got a Hatfield SAS 12 gauge for Christmas. Other than the bolt locking back after the first shot with a shell on the lifter, it has run everything I've put in it (granted that's only been Winchester 7.5 shot target loads and Federal Heavy Shot Game Loads 5 shot, all 2 3/4" low brass).
Ive had my SAS 12 gauge for 3 years. I like it alot. Had my first issue recently but was able to fix it. Ive never had any cycling issues. I do own two maverick 88s and they are great but i love the SAS 12 gauge.
@@FishingwithFro Yes they do make some that are okay. I'm just going by people that leave me comments saying that they buy them and they having problems with them. Like I said in the video I bought four of them and all of mine needed a little bit of something to make them right
yup you're right on point I picked up my maverick 88 about 6 years ago I treat it like it's a peice of crap thinking it's too cheap to be any good but after all this time if I had to pick I would take the 88 over top of the line shotguns for the price of 150.00 clams you won't find a better choice I have hunted in freezing rain snow coming down so hard ya couldn't see the end of the barrel and still it worked. had it fall in the creek fished it out shook it off and it still fired like nothing happened I don't buy junk now and I didn't then good luck this season stay safe and many happy trails.
Yeah. I bought one in 2021 knowing it was going to be a gamble. The first time I took it took it out to shoot the trigger group just fell out of it. A call to Hatfield got me a replacement retaining pin. I can't remember what the next problem I had with it was but it got sold fairly quickly.
Have a Pardus Pa 12 guage pump shotgun, that I picked up at our local pawn shop. It looks like new and as far as I can tell it wasn't shot very much. So far so good BUT as we know until you have quite a few hundred rounds through it chances are its ok but then all of a sudden the gremlins appear. So can't say it's great or say it's junk only time will tell. The one thing I did notice is there's not very many videos on it or accessories available for this model. Thank you as always for your content and you continued service.
To anyone who still owns a hatfield, check your barrels where the shells seat. There's usually a burr inside there from machining that will deficause extraction issues.
My 410 sas has a problem with the mag tube. The gas piston will get half way down and bind. When you take your first shot it has enough energy to over come that bind but the spring does not get it back over the bind and wont chamber the next round.
I have a SAS 12 ga. It's been a really good shotgun. I had a fore end break, they sent a new one, tightened the gas ring and no more problems. So I can't complain.
I love my single shot Hatfield. I've never tried a semi-auto shotgun, never could afford one. I've considered trying one of the SAS guns, I've heard that the quality has gotten better.
Thanks for the tip. I'm not a huge shotgun guy, but I'll steer clear of those. There's a ton of budget Turkish shotguns out there and I do have one, but it's been solid.
The only Hatfield I have is a single shot 410. It's been great buts it's hard to mess up a single shot shotgun. I don't own a semi auto shotgun at all. Have pumps, bolt action and single shot.
i have a hatfield 12 single barrel, works flawlessly, but i did a trigger job because you about had to pull it with two fingers. bought two savage 20 ga from Walmart 21/2 years ago for spares in case it gets bad ,but havent shot them yet. i need to prove them. Papa 😊
Got a maverick 88 $200. Just bought a GForce GF2 for $125 from PSA. 12 ga 18" barrel pump. Only for home defense and put 25 rounds through it but flawless
I wound up with a 12 gauge Hatfield after some horse trading. Wouldn't cycle a new shell after firing. A new piston fixed that, it would fire, cycle a new shell, and wouldn't fire that one, because the hammer would always follow the bolt on closing. Ordered a new trigger/hammer/loader assembly and it shot fine after that. Traded it for a break open .243 soon after.... what was gonna break next??
I have the sas 12 gauge. Its been great so far. What are some of tge otger brands that are good and cheap? Tristar ive heard of, started to buy one. Did you say Pointer? Who else? I have a 88 and a 500 and a proven h&r single shot.
Hatfield will only service/fix guns within the12 month warranty now. They have also stopped selling parts for them. Their response to my recent email, I needed parts for a 12 gauge SAS
Hatfield SAS 12ga mying runs fine with clean and as long as i run 3inch shells. Their one ytube channel has 28ga i watch and they use for duck and said just need clean and polisheding work . I got mying a a gifted few years ago from my dad in family he got under 200 new from Walmart. Walmart know has for 230 or so . Not best but cheap i like said gave me cheap auto to play with. I usly run my mossberg 500 pump . But i will admit rob Hatfield shoots flater and is lighter with 3inch then my mossberg and way lighter in weight.
Glad I saw this, my son has been talking about buying one, I am trying to convince him to spend the little extra and get a mossberg 500. Even if the Hatfield runs fine now could you find parts in 10 years? As far as semi auto goes I’m getting a berreta a400. I like my mossberg but I want semiautomatic and while the Remington and mossberg make a satisfactory semi they are not great, and the benelli in my experience is an overpriced piece of crap.
Seems like everything is sourced from Turkey, my brand new best model Stoeger M3000 in Max 7 camo with large controls, fiber optic sight, hogged out loading chamber & thinner fore end was less than $600 shipped & transferred. It came with a bad extractor, Stoeger fixed it and now it runs like the cheaper Benelli that I thought it was…Kahn arms from Turkey makes all the Mossberg Over/Unders, Turkey is making a lot of good firearms but I agree a lot of them aren’t good at all. I believe that a gun is only as good as the company that sells it as well. Too many bad customer service stories to tell from Tisas, Saiga, Fusion 1911’s I’ve had some bad experiences. Stoeger was great to deal with…
I have a 20 gage Hatfield it shoots ok had problems a 1st I cleaned it and shot it a lot it started shooting good. But Federal ammo it does not like. But I agree I will not buy another
A friend bought the 12 sas last year, same problem. He’s stuck with a single shot semi auto, and will only eject high brass, nothing less. The mag spring is so stiff, it will only take one shell. It’s a POS. He would have been better off buying the single shot for half the money.
The Maverick 88 by Mossberg 250$ shotgun built to beat on for a lifetime! Look up the Burn down of a Maverick 88 on UA-cam…. 1000 rounds as fast as possible… Zero malfunctions.
Lucky you got to buy one at Walmart I tried to get a bolt action 22 for a squirrel hunting and ended up with a Democrat slow hand FFL that did not want to sell it to me told him I wanted it for hunting and he gave me every excuse he could told him the way Walmart operates the original owner Mr Walton would be turning in his grave he said that's okay we don't like him either I knew at that point I was dealing with a left-hander had to go to my local gun shop an order one will never buy from Walmart again when it comes to firearms
I'm glad that you can afford it $1,000 shotgun obviously you've been blessed but not everybody is that lucky there are probably more people out there that can't or won't spend $1,000 on a shotgun. But I'm definitely happy that you can
That's not necessarily true. I own two 16 gauge pre-1920 break open shotguns. $80. bucks apiece. Both are 30" barrels. A Crescent arms and a pre-patent Stevens from 1912. Both have been two of the best shotguns I have and they are a hoot to shoot and hunt with.
I have just about all the Hatfield shotguns and have had superb performance from them all. I love my 410s

The single shot 12 gauge is great and easy to modify
Agreed. Proven manufacturers make inexpensive models. Semi auto guns are not cheap for a reason. Feeding shells presents lots of issues.
I've got a Hatfield 28 ga it works but I have to load my shells kinda stiff
I love the mavrick88 it's my favorite
I bought a 12gauge several years ago. Mine worked but the inner action clips fell apart several times. I traded it off.
I can fire reload & fire again a single shot faster than many guys can fire a jamming semi auto....
Rob, I have been looking for a Hatfield in .40 caliber. They don't make one. Luckily, the McCoy's do offer a .40 Cal!! 😂
