    EXCELLENT coverage. Thank you so much. My Down Syndrome daughter died from dementia at the end of 2019, just short of her 50th birthday. Unfortunately, close friends, flatmates, homes for the disabled and even the dementia ward of her nursing home, were NOT prepared to ensure a healthy diet, so my research at the time, extensive at the time for her issues as well as a number of other health issues I had, was of little use to her in her life. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and appreciate this refresher. Good on you for presenting it in such an easy to understand way.

She ended up in assisted living a few months later, and she had been independent, kept a very neat home, cooked every day, liked cooking for others.
    I'm so sorry your mother went through that. That must have been heartbreaking to watch. There are strips for urine testing that are 50 strips for $20 that might have alerted your mother, but she would have needed help to analyze the strip. Maybe a week or two of tests.

      Same here, the hospital recommended Pedialyte. I’m not a fan of the bright colors they add. But the potassium citrate prevents kidney stones due to lack of hydration. I don’t ask my mom if she wants water, I hand it over to her and also drink a cup of water along with her. She always says no. Sometimes I tell her I will give her some chocolate if she drinks it. It works sometimes. It’s a very exhausting and difficult situation to be in, but I thank God for giving me another day with her.

    Dear Dr.Liu, I have many bushes of black raspberries growing around my property. They were there when I moved in about eight years ago. They require no care except possibly pulling out the weeds occasionally. I am an organic gardener anyway, so not having to fuss with them is a benefit for me, as I have arthritis which makes it uncomfortable to keep bending up and down constantly. They are relatively pest-free! Amazing and wonderful. So, when I walk about in summer I just pop them into my mouth and enjoy 😊
    If you are ever in upstate New York (Baldwinsville 13027) please come and pick them for free…it’d be a very small offering for all the wonderful information you share with us so kindly 👍🏻😊🙏🏻I also have many young shoots in the Spring you can have. They spread like wildfire,and produce their berries the second year. Maybe they would grow for you too. They like the semi-shade of tree lines, as those thicker types that divide homeowners land delineations. They don’t want full sun. They also don’t like very dry land. Mine grow in areas that are moist; wet, in fact, in the spring, then drying out more into the summer. Well anyway, thanks so much for the advice…it’s really very important information! 😊👍🏻🙏🏻

    Dr. Liu. Your story resonate quite a bit and your channel is very informative! My 94 yo mom got out of ER with UTI early December. She does not want to drink regularly because she'll then have to ask the nurse to help her go to the bathroom. She declined in rehab not thinking straight and some sort of dementia manifest itself significantly. She takes almost no drug other than Spiriva. I got her to start eating again with mostly liquid food and some porridge. She still recognize me and interact with people fairly normally but not quite able to related the facts when challenged with questions. Call my brother her grandson. I don't know what will transpire at this point. My dad died 6 years ago at 94 with dementia as well. He did take statins for years He was high functioning but felt bad one day went to the hospital for observation and died suddenly (they put it down as heart attack).

    Thanks for the excellent content. A minor correction, is that at 5:50 you say that your mother would get tired of the insects, and spray with Roundup. Roundup was used as a weed killer. It does not kill insects. Regarding the exercise that fish get from constant swimming, my son, who plays video games, told me a funny story last weekend. Apparently, in the game Dwarf Fortress, they made some update that caused animals to level up in strength based on physical activity. Before long, the carp became super-powerful (because they were always swimming), and took over the world.

    • @carlr2837
      @carlr2837 6 днів тому

      @@boonkiepup I'm not sure what this comment has to do with my post. Nevertheless, that would be my absolute last choice for a diet. I have prostate cancer, and meat in your diet makes prostate cancer grow significantly faster, so a carnivore diet would reduce my life expectancy by many years. Even if that were not true, a carnivore diet would be torture as I love all vegetables, and have no particular fondness for meat. I do eat a few servings of meat a week for the protein.

Blueberries and Blackberries grew wild in my backyard and I snacked on them regularly. My Grandfather used garlic in the house cooking almost everyday. Thank you again for this video!

    Aronia berries grow very well in the PNW (and elsewhere). They combine well with blueberries. They are perhaps the highest in anthocyanins. Powders are also available. Elderberries, and evergreen huckleberries also grow well in the PNW.

    The only way that I see possible to see whether something is effective is not as much by observing the person’s diet, but to study the same person before and after changing their diet. Changing one’s diet can be a very traumatic process, especially for older people. It shouldn’t start on their plates, but in the minds.

    Minor correction...Roundup is not used for insects. It's an herbicide that disrupts plant cell division. Many pesticides, on the other hand, work by affecting the nervous systems of the pests they target. Always read the tiny print on labels and follow instructions exactly.

Thank you. I'm 69 and on no meds so I completely believe and practice all your recommendations. I just discovered your channel today so I haven't seen anything on how you feel about animal products, specifically dairy, meat, etc. I occasionally will eat salmon or tuna maybe once a month and occasionally grass fed beef every 3 months. my numbers are excellent but I feel better, more energy without the animal products. What say you? I worry about not enough protein now that I'm older and I want to keep my muscles strong.

    Thanks for your videos. Black Raspberries. I've lived & hiked in Western Washington for 70 years & have never heard of Black Raspberries. A quick search & I found they are what we call Blackcaps or Thimbleberries. They are found wild in the hills, but also can be found at some local fruit stands. They have a very short ripening window & don't last long in the fridge. They are tart & generally used in jams, & pies & perhaps a mixed salad with some sweetness to offset them. How much less anthocyanin do blackberries, black currants & blueberries have - fruits I grow? I could not find quantitative info in a Google search.

    Put a Step app on your phone this can track your steps which also equals miles per day / week. Now walking is good but be careful if you have a pre-existing injury as walking to fast or up hills can re-injure such and injury. Walking in ok in moderation and not too fast.

I'm at that age where I seem to be more forgetful than usual, and it's hard to know if it's just the fact that I'm getting older or something more. I’ve been on 20 milligrams of Lipitor for the last 7 years due to a stroke. Prior to the stroke, my cholesterol hovered around 200 with higher than normal LDL (190) and super high HDL (in the 90s). My doctor insists that the statin has other protective properties against strokes and highly recommends I stay on it. What are your thoughts about it? I am, and always have been, an exceedingly healthy eater who follows most of what you recommend already. Thank you!
