I'm almost positive your dishes are extremely clean because of washing them yourself. I just have never liked a dishwasher. mines the newest there is and I only use it for my rinsed dishes. I sometimes use it for my refrigerator chores and side rails but not dishes that we eat off of

Melissa, I'm not sure if you've done these yet but here are a few I would like to know:
    * how to clean your oven without super strong chemicals
    * properly washing and drying curtains with grommets
    * cleaning stand-up fans and portable air conditioners
    * tips on steam mops or steam vacuums, is it worth it to get an all in one for dog owners?
    Thank you!

Bar Keepers Best Friend for glass stove top cleaner. It's a miracle worker. I recently bought a house from someone that was totally clueless on cleaning. Our stove and oven looked like they were never cleaned. I was able to get every spec of burnt on gunk off our glass top with bar keepers.

      Sassy GRITS
You don’t need a special cleaner just sprinkle some garden-variety baking soda on spots and spray mix of vinegar and water. Let sit for about until it’s dryish (~20-30min). Wipe with damp cloth. Repeat if needed. You can also take edge of sharp paring knife or razor blade gently scrape areas as needed. I only use EWG approved natural products for few cleaners we have who list all ingredients All else is baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. Cheap and healthy. Many brands have chemicals that have never been tested and if they have it’s very short term. Being FDA or EPA approved means nothing.

I just cleaned my dishwasher yesterday, omg! It has a removable filter (it is a 20 year old Frigidaire machine that came with the house when we bought it a couple years ago), and it was so gross! I have always wiped down the door, frame, and insides but that was it. Then I went online, found the make/model of my dishwasher and found out that I could remove the bottom arm as well as the filter beneath it and, 🤢! I took everything out, soaked it in a sink of hot, soapy water and took a cleaning toothbrush to it. I also discovered that the water overfill cap lifted up and wiped around and beneath that, my cloth was black! 😱 So I took some paper towels at first to get rid of the worst of the sludge, then a little baking soda and dish soap with the cleaning toothbrush until it was clean. Then I finished off by running the empty dishwasher on the sanitize cycle with a dishwasher tab and some vinegar. Whew! Now it’s sparkling clean!

      Would love her tips

You can use a special track brush or toothbrush to clean it. Or, use the pole end of a broom or mop & wrap a rag around it slightly damp & run it through the tracks 🙂

    • @Bia592
      @Bia592 5 років тому +1

Erin Docherty when I moved this property the window and door sills were gross. I boilef water and add baking soda and run that through sills then sprayed white vinegar on top. After couple of minutes i wiped with paper towel and then rinse with plain water. And for excess dirty water I used foam sponge and more
Paper towels. Voila its super clean.
I have brushes for sills for later routine cleaning also. But the one I described above I just used yesterday. If I could post photos you would see before and after. And believe me this cleaning is required only once a year. Rest of the year just wipe clean the sills and thats it.

I came to realize that cleaning the inside of the door at the base of the dishwasher was crucial. Our dishwasher started to leak and it was coming from underneath the door. Called serviceman and we were told that crumbs and who knows what else had accumulated under the door over time. It wasn’t something I had ever known to do but apparently it’s one of the causes for leaking out. Glad I found it early and know how to clean that part of the base door. Every dishwasher is different but not all instructions are provided in how to cleaning particular areas that may become a problem later. Thankfully ours was still under warranty. The extended warranty worked out for our good in the end. Can’t imagine cooking fish in a dishwasher but some people will try anything to make a point. Always love your videos.

Check the hand of the oven door. You normally are able to unscrew the door hand and the top of the it also. The you can take the glass out and clean the whole inside of the oven door. I did this in my own oven cleaning video showing military spouses how to clean when you have to clear a housing inspection.

Was wondering if you have a calendar of all of the “to do” cleanings around the house that need to be done every year and how often. For example clean dishwasher - monthly? I don't know if this is something one would need to call a professional for, but can you do a video on how to clean the lint from the rest of the dryer? (not just the lint trap, but the vents and hoses or whatever else is back there that needs to be cleaned out). I've started to become very aware of the possibility of dryer fires and all I was ever taught to do was empty out the lint trap and nothing else.

5:30 I have also heard about people cooking food in the dishwasher. Now they say to do it after you’ve cleaned it like here in this video and then run another cycle with out any dishes or detergent.
That way there won’t be any soap in the dishwasher.
But then you can cook salmon like you said or even vegetables in a mason jar(this was a tip for thanksgiving and to help save time.)

I clean the filters soaked in bleach solution and scrub with a large nail brush. Remember to clean the bottom edge of the door AND use an old cloth to clear out the gunge left in the drain at the bottom when you remove the filters. There's usually a good glassful of gunk in there as well as the odd bit of food!

I never thought of cleaning the frame and gasket...guess what I'll be doing today lol. Glad I watched this.
We have plastic inside of our dishwasher and it's really scratched up and stained. When it needs to be replaced we'll buy one with stainless steel inside. The outside is stainless steel so its alot easier to clean.

Hi Melissa, thank you for sharing this video. I followed the exact same process except keeping vinegar in the top rack(I ran out of vinegar). It caused a lot of suds and overflowed from my dishwasher. What could I do the next time to avoid this from happening? Does using vinegar help with the suds?

The oddest things I have ran thru my dishwasher are sewing items, ie...scissors, stilletos, sewing feet, bobbin holders, etc. when I quit smoking 3 years ago. Worked like a charm! (just let all those items set out on a towel or something until really, really dry!

When I saw your video I had just been thinking it was time to run some baking soda and vinegar through the dishwasher which I do from time to time. Then I saw you cleaning the frame etc. I thought, "I don't think I've ever done that!" Was I blind? Omg, the crud! In my (very weak) defense it is a very old off white dishwasher so maybe not as noticeable? Anyway, thank you for this video! I now have a lovely, sparkling clean (not so off white) dishwasher!

The hat that I wear when I'm out walking or running really soaks up the sweat and eventually gets hard and crusty. I put in over a bowl that is about the same size as my head (so the hat keeps its shape) and wash it on the top rack. Works great!

Thanks for this information. I have found that my dishwasher has an odor. I’ve tried natural products like baking soda or vinegar I have even tried commercial products like Refresh and still after I’ve cleaned the dishwasher several weeks later, the odor returns. FYI I always rinse the dishes first. Any suggestions as to why this could be happening or what I can do?

One thing I( noticed that you didnt work on was the door seal on the bottom of the inner hinge area. I have given that a wipe previously and found it is black with gunge . Horrifying at first , then keep on doing it until its finally clean. I also clean( occasionally) the arms the baskets slide out on and in the side of my Whirlpool dishwasher , we have the filling vent ....that gets a good bush too.

I was looking to see if anyone has noticed this problem! After numerous cleanings I finally discovered that the smell in the dishwasher was coming from where the bottom of the door meets the inside of the unit - the whole length of the door. It was full of very gross, smelly gunk. I clean it regularly now - no more smell!

This is how my Kenmore serviceman told me to clean my Kenmore. Once a month put 1/4 cup Tang in the bottom and 1 tablespoon in the detergent door and run a regular cycle. (It’s the citric acid that does the job). He stressed that you DON’T want to wash the gaskets, because it will ruin them. I’m curious if Kenmore central told you that you COULD wash the gaskets.
