Rachel Cruze - how is a Target red card not a credit card? It works like a credit card... you can spend more than you should with one swipe!??
I spend money on junk food! I can't help it.... food just tastes good.
Rachel Cruze I enjoyed this video as I do the rest of your videos very much. Great information. I think you should do a response to this video, on your Channel or your dad's. There's lots of comments about how he's ready for a debate..
''PSA: Why it's a BAD IDEA to pay down your mortgage early'' by Graham Stephan.
Paying it off early is only bad if you plan to sell your house soon.
Rachel Cruze: This is good! I have recently(10/1/18)became a student of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and I appreciate every resources the Ramsey Solution team offers. You guys ROCK!! I will do my debt free scream one day!
Me and my husband decided to put mortgage for 12 years but we have a goal to put down $10000 each year and the house will be paid off in 5 years!!! So excited to be mortgage free!!!!
When you sit down to write down spending it’s crazy to see how much is actually being wasted! So true the little purchases add up very quickly!
You talking about the work out app was the most genuine and sincere I have ever seen you be. It was super funny and relatable and seemed very honest. Nice show Rachel.
catherine Holcomb Totally! But seriously, she should use it! I mean, it’s not like it’s going to cost anything!
Your enthusiasm for saving makes me want to actually follow your ideas. My first baby step would be to shop with a list ... and stick to it when I go into the store. Simple, but not easy.
The mortgage payoff calculator is a true eye opener! We will be changing some things asap! Thanks for the tool!
I'm so glad I watched this!! I'm budgeting tomorrow and Walmart is where I spend the most money 2x/week on food & therapy shopping smh.
I walked into Target today for the first time in a few years. Went in just to buy some toilet bowl cleaner for the gym I clean. Saw they had reams of paper, which is something I had on my shopping list to get when I stopped at a store that had it. So I bought it. (We’re down to the last of our paper in the printer, and we homeschool, so it was a need, not a want). Walked out with just those two items. Go me!
Loving your shows! Motivates me and I always learn something new. Thanks Rachel.
After paying off my car , I now save 60% of my take home pay ... I l2 Dave alll the time , your show is great. I been trying to close my credit card and its such a mission ( no debit )... love this vid ... keep it up
These tips are great! Whatever you think works for you, do it. I think that we should always consider how we spend and that if it is necessary or not. Saving money is easy as long as you stick to your plan.
Thank you Rachel and your Dad. Love you guys so much.
Another thing to check is your satellite & utility bills. Take a close look and be sure they are not adding things you don't know about and over-charging. I have caught them and got it fixed - saving me $
#sheworkshardsavingmoney - I paid for 5 summer camps for my 4 kids this summer with a summer camp sinking fund while kids were in school. They get to enjoy the summer and I get no guilt.
Great show and especially loved the segment on refinancing your mortgage! God bless you, Rachel! #inspired
Thank you! I love your UA-cam shows! I watch them every week and you are so encouraging, fun, and inspiring. 😊 I am a Larry Burkett/Financial Peace baby, and my husband and I listen to Dave all the time!
Great show! I shifted my focus from saving money to concentrating on what is going to make me money and I found that in the process I've saved a lot of money. Case and point I don't have the time to go to the grocery store as often as I used to so when I go I have a list, ignore the sales, and basically buy the best food because if I eliminate the number of trips to the grocery store I'll already save a lot of money.
with the help of Christy at business Boutique I'm excited to start a small business eventually.
I got into an argument with someone over financing cell phones. Whether you pay outright or finance, you are still paying the same amount. It just looks less painful when it's a payment vs. $800 up front, but it's really the same.
I got an iPhone 6 for $200 last week with AT&T's prepaid plan $45 a month, unlimited talk and text and limited data, but enough for me, since I have WiFi at home.
This is very inspiring. Thank you!
Hi Rachel, thanks for the informative tips. Regarding cell plans, I just sign up for Mint Wireless starting at $15 unlimited calls, texts and 3GB data and if u go over it u don’t get billed for it, just slows down. No contract and taxes included. Mint uses T-Mobile cell towers.
You said "That could have been a dank date" hahahhaa I'm dead right now lol lol!!! Great episode!!!
Jessi Winner I have never heard that before and had to Google it. Lol
❤❤❤👍 theses tips and saving advice. Thanks for sharing.
Mortgage payments for a 15 year mortgage here in the Bay Area would equate to over $7,000/month in payments. Maybe it’s time to move??
Yes. Move.
Daniel Padilla yes here Missouri the House $150,000 very beautiful and if you live small town $150,000 with acres
Paying 3.5% for a 30 year fixed in San Bruno. 15 year fixed in the Bay Area is unheard of...unless it's from a Chinese investor paying cash.
Living debt free!!!
Always love the show! I’m finding myself needing the shirt that you wore in the outside segment. Where can I purchase?
My cell phone has limited data on it too. What I do to not go over my limit is connect it to my wifi at work and home. Most places (i.e. Starbucks, Hotels etc. also have free wifi) so where ever I go I try to connect to free wifi so I don't use up my own data.
Love your videos and your personality! Keep 'em coming!
Love every episode !
Another way to save is by using free apps like Ibotta for cash back on any purchase. Also, most car insurance have an app that tests your driving and gives you a discount for being a good driver. Mine saves me $30/ month. Lastly, cell phone plans have a loyalty and retention department that will work with you to lower your monthly bill. You can go into the store as well for a bill analysis and the store can recommend options for you.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have had such a hard time with amazon prime and this app that Brooke Burke put out for fitness. Car insurance too! Thank you! I'll be doing some cleaning out!
I took out a 25 year mortgage to buy a bungalow in 2010. In 2012 I went to see a mortgage adviser and saw I hadn't paid back very much. I asked how much my direct debit was to have 10 more years. I changed to pay it back in 10 years. I decided to get a 5 year term and in that I totally paid off my mortgage in 2017. So I paid off my mortgage in 7 years by paying extra each month.
Hi! I started using the envelope system today. I feel so happy! While doing my necessary shopping I felt a sense of liberation. It felt really good to use cash for ALL of what I needed. I also got everything on my grocery list. I changed one item on that list and bought a healthier food item, which also helped me to save. I still have money left in my grocery envelope! Thank you so much for the tip; I'm definitely going to keep using it.
Sorry girl, switching to a 15-year mortgage is not feasible in high-cost-of-living areas like DC or California. The last time we switched to a 15-year was on a previous house, and it almost dpubled our payment. What we plan to do is make extra principle payments once we are debt-free. You don't have to refinance to pay extra on your mortgage principle. It saves you from another hit on your credit, closing costs, and interest.
You can take money you use on frivolous things like coffee shops, eating out too often and tv and throw at your mortgage.
That Zander plug was hilarious lol just walking through the house ... Did you just decide to do that on the spot ?
wheres does Rachel Cruze invest? And how to start? Thank you!
So what would you recommend to military families that have to move every 3 years. We don't want to compromise on location because of schools for our kids. On average we have bought houses for about 225k with a 30yr mortgage with 4% the problem is we can't afford a 15 year in that price range and because of location the price won't be too much different even if we downsized. What can you recommend?
We just sold our first home and purchased our dream home. We wanted to do a 15 year mortgage but the monthly payment was hundreds dollars more. It was going to make things to tight. So I will continue to make half a payment every two weeks.
Leslie Kirkendall Dave Ramsey would say that was too much house, then. We just sold a house where we had a (gulp) 33 year mortgage and are looking for a place we can buy with a 15-year. We aren’t going for dream home, cuz it’s not in our price range. That can come 10 years or more down the road when we move out of the expensive area we live in.
About the apps, you have to first use the free trial to see if the app would be useful at all.
How do people even afford to not shop for the best car insurance rate? I can't afford not to. I am so broke, I wouldn't be able to pay my bills if I didn't get the best rates on everything.
Mrtge - keep your payment the same when you refinance for a lower interest rate. Doing this alone cut 7.5 years off our mortgage
Had the same issue with Every Dollar. 😂
yep, you can get the same thing for free! try MINT. they connect your accounts for free...
Lol!
I can't switch to a 15 year fixed mortgage currently. My current 30 year is at 3.325% and you can't get that right now. Plus we are in the middle of baby step 2 so the lower payment helps. Once in BS6 I will pay off the house super quick.
Can't believe every Christian has not boycotted Target because of their lgbtq bathroom policies!!!
Great video. Especially item 3.
Rachel - You gave examples on how to cut spending. One thing you forgot to mention is library fees. I know the amount is trivial, but if you don't return the books or whatever right away the fines can go up and if you lose a book or dvd you have to replace the item. Also my library has gone up on their fees and lessen how long you can borrow the items. Just based on my experience. :) Thanks for letting me share. Anna
NY public library no longer has overdue fees, they've been removed during the pandemic.
i'm so thankful for my insurance guy. he literally checks every 3 months to see if there's something cheaper out there for us. he has saved us thousands for sure. people you NEEd to know how much you're paying on things. :S
HA! That face, "No, no I wasn't" Hahaha. Cracking me up!
So what do you do when you do something like that and you are already strapped in your budget and just starting out?
Having that app on your phone is a constant reminder of the "not using your noggin" tax. It keeps that lesson fresh as you have that as a pain point....but, I'd bet you're less likely to make that mistake.
Great show!!!
I use a savvycents wallet and my check register to keep myself in check. :)
Lol yup Rachel I'm right there with u lolololol. Thanks for the tips
We got on StraightTalk on all our phones. $49.17 total each phone and we have had 10Gs each at high speeds and if we go over, it slows down but never cuts off or charges extra. No coverage issues either
Stephanie Bogart I have straight talk as well and had no issues. Pay between $55-$60 a month
Stephanie Bogart I have Metro PCS with "unlimited data" plan at $50 but it cuts off at 21 gigs
MetroPCS
Mine also straight talk $45 with 25 gb
Cricket plan has a special, 2 phones for $80, unlimited (sometimes it slows down after 22 gigs of use, but only during busy times). We don’t have internet in the house (now WiFi! 🤭), so since my husband needs it for his small business, we added $10 to share up to 10 Gigs of his data in a hotspot. But I don’t need that. If I really need WiFi for my laptop cuz I can’t do something on my phone (like buy an audible book for my son for school-happened this pm), I can walk down to a neighbor’s house and use hers, or drive a mile to the library, or wait till I’m at the CrossFit box (I’m apprenticing there, so I’m there a lot). That’s $90 a month for 2 phones, unlimited everything. And pretty good coverage, since AT&T owns them.
Yes, we have Zander insurance :)
When I first moved out on my own in 2011 I thought I couldn't afford cable/internet. So I'd use my cell phone with 30gb data for all my gaming, netflix, youtube, general internet use etc. And i spent anywhere between $100-300 in data overage fees EVERY MONTH. Once I finally looked at the prices for cable and internet packages in my city it was anywhere between $60-105 per month. I hate myself everytime I think about how I paid those data fees for 5 years!
Your cell phone company can slow down your phone when you approach data limit and then stop it all together so you don’t go over.
racheal credit cards how do they calculate the interest rate that appear on credit card statement ? Andy and Sharon
Just started budgeting at 41 years old, but at least I had some common sense before - I've never over drafted in my life.
Haven’t overdrafted In forever !!
Giselle Palacios well done
Why is universal life insurance so bad? I mean term once that 20 years is done there goes the money where universal builds cash value, plus for kids they could wind up with a health issue that they could be charged more later for term or not even get it. I am really wondering what the cons are?
Rachael I could not find your goal tracker app????? Please help me
Rachel cruz e u are awesome, not to mention hilarious!!!!😅...
Rachel I want to use everydollar, but the app has not been made available in the Bahamas. I am now working on Baby Step 3. HELP!!!
Wait... can someone explain me how come is Target RedCard not a credit card? I have one, and I never put my cash on it before using.
What is your view on work from home jobs while being a stay home mom.
That happened to me too with weight watchers. 😩😩
Rachel, I’m super curious what you and Dave think of this- you recommended for people to get on a phone plan with friends to save money, Dave says to get a roommate for an apartment if needed... my question is: aren’t these as bad as co-signing for a loan? In all of these cases, you’re binding yourself to a legal agreement to pay the full amount of something if the other person doesn’t follow through. Can you clarify why sharing a family phone plan/getting a roommate vs. co-signing a loan are not the same?
For example, in college, one of my roommates didn’t pay her rent on time and we ALL were on the hook to pay $900 in late fees because of it. Fortunately for us, she ended up paying the fee, but if she hadn’t, we would have had to.
Interesting question. I'd love to hear this get addressed. Saying to get on a cell phone plan with friends sent the hair on my arms straight up nervous for people to get into terrible situations and ruin friendships.
What do you think about spending the $100 a year for Amazon prime. I'm wondering how much I really save.
Leigh K There is a calculator for that. If I estimated $5 shipping per order, that would take 24 orders to pay for itself. I’m over 35 orders for this year, and we aren’t a full 5 months in. So basically it paid for itself somewhere early in April.
Now, if you don’t order much, it wouldn’t be worth it.
Ok all great info but I’m subscribing to you lol 🙌🏼
Sharing a phone plan with friends is the worst advice I have heard u give......It's like combining finances before marriage
Splitting a phone bill is not the same as sharing a checking account.
Brooke Carrillo that’s because you all follow through with your agreement to pay your portion. If you didn’t, the others would be on the hook to pay your portion of the bill, so Taylor is saying it’s risky.
I have to agree. I took a "friend" onto my plan to help her out. Well, she owes me 4 back payments. I have her date turned down as an incentive but don't want to turn off completely because she is a single mom. My heart too big I guess.
Taylor Jane my husband and I share our cell phone plan with his parents and siblings. We save tons of money and have never had an issue with this. I don’t think EVERYONE can do this. For example.... I would never do it with my parents and siblings. My husbands family is financially literate and a mutual trust that everyone always pays their bill
I also have a family plan with parents and uncle and save a lot...$33 a month...I wouldn't do this other family members who are not responsible
Our mortgage is a 30 yr at 3.85%. We looked into a 15 but the rate was gonna be almost 5%. So we didn’t do it.
Stephanie Bogart keep your 30 year and pay it off like a 15 year 👍
That's odd. Usually shorter term loan has better rate.
Stephanie probably got the 3.85% before interest rates increased.
Same here.
I saw one website that said if you pay 20% more every month on your 30-year mortgage, you essentially turn it into a 15-year mortgage. I did the math on mine, and it works. No need to refinance
I totally did this with a Erik condren planner that cost $60.00 + dollar's . I thought if I just had this I would get my life organized no more worries. Barely used it I used a Walmart calendar lol 😂
We are selling our home.... 1 day and we're out. Almost time for that #debtfreescream!
If I paid $131 for a workout app, I’d dead sure use it.
Wal-Mart does not charge you to shop for you.
Actually it does i worked there and still have friends on management
Make sure you take your payment method out! They will totally resign you up when your year is up! Happens to me all the time...ugh
Spending is way too easy. Try reselling some good quality clothes. Two things I knew when I did it: 1. very gently worn things in the closet take up too much space, and make you want a bigger closet. 😳 2. Resales can get you a bit of money back, but not what you paid. These are duh, knew that, but after I did it on about 20 items, I realized another thing, 3. I really think twice before I buy new things now. Think it is because I see the sticker tag now and then think, in 2 years when I have realized I didn’t wear it that much, how much can I sell it for? Say an example is 75 on a skirt, will maybe get you 20 back. Seeing it now as a loss of 55 to make my closet overcrowded for two years 😳😳 not to mention the resale hassle(s)! Saying “no” is so much easier now! Behaviour changes realized!
Ancestry.com has got me hooked but over the summer months, I cancel because I'm not using it.
My 2 1/2yr old phone cost $75and I pay $45 a month. Its cracked with a piece of tape on the face. Still works, yet others feel I should up grade. Bring on the rubber bands, if needed. 😃
I tell what cost money. Having a pet. A dog costs $600 a year.
Focus on NEEDS only and avoid people who have no self-discipline. Savings is a commitment and self-discipline 👍
Start using the app girl! Then it wont feel like such a waste of money.
Leanne B Exactly
I am sooooo lucky my cell phone AT&T unlimited everything is only 20$ a month. I am on my daughters family plan. Just ask you never know who my say yes to be on their plan with them!☺️
Awesome content! I love everything that you said, Rachel. This is so hard for some people to do but with willingness and a positive mind, it is very easy to get through it. I have created my channel to help people who're in financial trouble. It is never too late to change how we manage our income. Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do.
Learn to do your check book geeze, I cannot even think people have overdraft problems? Might need to do cash only!
t mobile unlimited data plan is not a bad way to go. reasonably priced.
Just burned my phone!!..try taking my minutes and data now👹👹
Been in a family cel phone plan is a way of co-sign and you always say never never ever co-sign ever
over draft fees..... common people use over draft protection
We did not shop target
I would recommend a company like cricket.
Lol oh no that app. I feel ya.
Hard core cash to take to Target. With RedCard and anything else will
Get you to spend more. Rachel, you've got to start promoting plastic
You meant stop promoting, right?
Her voice is strong but good
nice tips for savings... but the explanation for paying faster the mortgage is very vague. That requires a more complex explanation, not a simple answer as you are suggesting.
Last year I plan to buy iPhone 10 instead of buying iPhone 10 I bought iPhone SE I paid only $139.this year I plan to no shopping for the whole year
I love thatvI have found your videos. Thank you those ❤. But if I may, it is very exhausting with that high tecnovibe music in the background. I mean, there is no reason to animate viewers emotions like that. If we wanna hear your message, we will listen ❤
I wish my house only cost $268,500. Sounds like Texas...
I cancelled my subscriptions!! 😁
Less Taxes and will save lots of money!
haha you’re funny rachel
24 hour fitness 😂
