Salamat po, my friend. I'm so pleased with PAL I'm actually thinking how am I going to fit them into my next soiree through Asia for my next batch of videos!
Hello, Ryan. Nobody told you to have the arroz caldo (rice porridge) at both the lounge and international flight? I also flew PAL last Sep-Oct from SFO so I did see and experience the multitude of passengers at NAIA. That was brought about by the delayed and or cancelled flights due to the typhoons. Be thankful that you flew PAL because the other terminal would have been the hub for all other airlines and so far more worse. Safe travels. Ingat po! Mabuhay.
Kumusta ka? I absolutely loved my PAL experience. And yes, I had the rice porridge at the lounge in NAIA. It pretty much taste like the Thai version which I'm used to... Delicious! Also the inflight catering... The Bangus Lamayo was divine... I enjoyed it so much I had it for the 2nd flight as well. I actually found frozen Bangus in the Filipino section of an Asian supermarket I go to! Haha... I'd fly PAL again in a heartbeat.
I can't get over how far the Airport is from the city in KL. I have arrived and been there and back in the last couple of days and have spent a good 2.5 hours or so travel time... I thought Shanghai to Pudong International was far! This is a great video Ryan.. I was loving how your neighbour seated next to you was getting in on the video lol.... I have never flown Philippine Airlines... but they are certainly on my list now... at least for direct or return... not transferring. The A321 business class is way above the 737-800s that fly internationally from here in OZ .... to Bali.. New Zealand etc... Great video... Liked!
If you factor in that KLIA is situated in another state altogether from KL which is a city within a federal territory, yes it's far 🤣. Pity the express train isn't running since COVID. Otherwise, it only takes 28mins from the airport to Sentral. Yes, I feel we're really being short-changed in OZ with our premium classes....its shit.
Indeed, Boeing's 737 first took to the air in 1968. LH (Lufthansa) was the first international airline to operate it. I took a ZRH-FRA flight in 1968 and I was in awe as a teenager ! Rather than invest in a totally new aircraft type Boeing saved money over the decades by continually developing the 737. Hence the Airbus product is newer and fresher. You can understand why Qatar is trying to get Airbus to reinstate its A321 order which the manufacturer cancelled (owing to a dispute over A350 issues).
I just recently subscribed so your older vids are popping up, to be honest, milkfish or bangus is a relatively cheap fish usually farmed in fish pens, the airline should have served the more expensive lapu lapu fish or grouper it's our equivalent of the salmon. Anyway I'm glad you liked the bangus.
And guess what? I found frozen bangus in the Filipino section of the Asian Mart here in Australia! Hehe... I don't mind the airline serving cheap stuff, as long as it's tasty. I must've been lucky with these both flights because most flight reviews tend to give PAL inflight catering a thumbs down.

Ha! Balut! Stuff made of nightmares and eating challenges for reality TV! I'm telling you us Asians will slay these challenges. Hahahahahaa.... And no I have not tried balut. But I promise you I will one day.
i wish philippine airlines would do a refresh for most of their aircrafts that they use for international flights, their prices are much more expensive than the other two major airlines in the philippines so you'd at least expect seats with ife screens even for economy class, even cebu pacific seats has usb chargers while these a321 regional planes used by philippine airlines doesn't offer them for economy class. for an airline that's supposed to be "focused" in global service you'd really expect better offerings than that (they have a different company which operates their regional flights).
Nice review as usual Ryan! Would you recommend me to fly PAL business class from Melbourne to BKK transit in Manila and on to HKG via Manila again? I just wanna try the airline for the first time. And the fare is very affordable on the days I want next year. Thank you.

Yes yes, flying them JCL is a must. I won't attempt their YCL with no lounge access seeing how chaotic NAIA T2 is. You'll see what I mean in Part 2, so stay tuned! I continued on PR209 MNL-MEL.
Hey Ryan! I found your channel through your Singapore to KL bus video, but I just realised I was on this flight too (I was sitting right behind you in 2K, but connecting onto BNE in Manila!) on September 3. I agree with you that PAL is a very underrated airline with an excellent soft and hard product, though the airport experience at NAIA is letting them down. It will be good to see them flourish once the new manila opens, hopefully in 2026. You've done a great job with these trip report videos! I really like your style!

How long were you stuck downstairs for? The lady next to you was on my flight to MEL and she appeared at the lounge very long after I had arrived. She swore never again with PR.
@@ryansofly I did find it entertaining to see a trip vlogger on the flight especially as I like watching these types of videos, but you weren't all that loud possibly because I had my headphones in. haha! Fortunately I only had carry-on luggage so after assuring the baggage handlers that I didn't have any checked bags, they let me through to the elevator fairly quickly. I didn't have to spend much time in the transit area at all. It was my first time flying PAL and my first time in NAIA T2, but I'll definitely fly them again (with hand luggage only) as they're really good value for money in business class (and have lie-flat business class on their 737s to/from BNE), especially on their ex-KUL fares.
Fair review. PAL Business Class is one of the best in the world in terms of food and service. The additional security check is required by most Western countries. As far as the terminal is concerned, wait until you see the new Bulacan International Airport (under construction) in the Philippines. It will be one of the best in the world with consultants from Changi Airport at that.
Thanks Ryan it was good to see your experiences taking PAL. Here is Europe PAL is absent for the time being. It restarted London flights some years ago (after being banned on safety grounds for a while) but these were suspended during the pandemic and have not restarted.
Until the new airport is constructed in the Philippines I don't see much improvement in the airport experience. Flying business class makes it a little bearable as you get preferential treatment. I will choose to fly PAL when available as I love the Filipino cabin crew care. Looking forward to the MNL to MEL trip. Cheers!
Indeed, I've just uploaded part 2 MNL MEL on PR209. I just found out after there are plans for a new airport for Manila. I'd say given the size of the population that cannot happen fast enough! Thanks for watching!
Ryan, would u say the transit experience in mnl is worth it ? Found a GREAT business class far from singapore to sydney via manila but im having 2nd thoughts about the transit experience 😬 4 hrs transit in Mnl, flying business. Whats ur opinion ?
Hey Ryan , it looks like there was zero inflight entertainment unit? am i right ? that will be horrible for my 2 kids. the flight time is 4 hrs between manila to Busan , I was told that A330 with flat bed will be operated for this route , hope PAL will stick to its plan . all i need is the entertainment TV unit for my 2 kids . lol
The regional A321s are equipped with WiFi streaming. Long haul A321s are lie flat with PTVs. Sometimes the latter does get swapped into regional duties. You'll get a glimpse of the A321 business class configuration in part 1 of this video.
I’ve flown PAL a few times. Only domestically around the Philippines and they’re pretty good. Your video has given me the heads up about using them as a stopover in Manila, nearly as bad as transiting in Sydney airport from an overseas trip. I’ll only use PAL if I’m holidaying in the Philippines after watching your video. Great content 👍🏻
I'd fly them again, if the price is right. I would NOT do this international transit in economy class with no lounge access. NAIA T2 is just mayhem, you'll see why in my next video!
50/50... I channel most of my non flying activity into points. Hotels, insurance, daily spend, Woolworths rewards, BP petrol Qantas rewards, Qantas health app etc ... So my QF program is almost self churning. My flying points are accumulated entirely with Jetstar Max Bundle.
Wonderful report. Having recently flown Philippine Airlines I can completely agree with what you have talked about in the video. The transit experience in MNL is horrible which is a shame because the airline is really good aside from that. They are very often the cheapest option from BNE and SYD to asia excluding Jetsar and Scoot.
I'm actually willing to tolerate NAIA just to fly them again... Although in business! I would not want to do this in economy and transit. Lol hell no. Thanks for watching!
Love it, and speaking of 13:50, the bread roll is called Pandesal 14:01 Bangus Milkfish. PR does also have an equivalent to your flag carrier SQ Hor fun Ee fu and bak chor mee Noodles its Pancit. Sadly, if you did PR127 from PR501/509/507 SIN🇸🇬-JFK🇺🇲 via MNL🇵🇭, the Filipino pancit is gone because Filipino passengers will take it first happened to my mum on January 16th 2024.
What is procedure to check in baggage again after the security check (bound for Australia)? Do we need queue at check in counter outside immigration? Planning to left airport without carry luggages during the 6-16 hours layover.
This all happens airside.... There's no need for you clear immigration during transit. You get led to a small room where checked in luggages from the previous airport is already waiting there. You'll identify which one is yours, then get it security screened. If it is busy, there is a long wait for these checked baggages to appear.
Manila is not a good transit area with that NAIA Airport. Imagine the 4 terminals are not even connected. I wont even start telling you my experiences. I am Filipino and I was based around the region and travel around several times a year a decade ago for several years. I am now based in the US. Currently, a new, or make that 2 new alternative airports are in the early stages of construction. (Bulacan and Sangley?). I am not sure with Sangley. NAIA will remain in the next 6 to 7 years while the new airports are being constructed and only then can we expect seamless transfers. Thank you though for trying PAL.
Kumusta my friend. Yes NAIA T2 was very challenging. You think this is bad, wait till you watch part 2. I head on to PR209 MNL MEL. The airport descended into utter chaos. I shan't spoil it for you. Hehehe... That being said, PAL is a great airline and the service was faultless on board.
the name NAIA justified its poor service and design so let it that be a NAIA. Let us wait for the new terminal in Bulacan and give the right name Manila International Airport
Okay, 20:33 is your nightmare because it’s every Pinoy’s nightmare, too. Lol! If you’ll see the airport grounds, you will wonder why they never built a bigger terminal despite having thousands of OFWs.
Well, this underscores why I'll would probably never do this transit flying economy class. This terminal was just absolute chaos later that evening which you will see in my next video. I believe PAL has now moved to T1 but the situation isn't any better there. Manila needs a new airport quickly!
i agree the flight attendants looked friendly, BUT as for your seat and meal being of Business class quality, that was a big NO to me. you first said your meal was fish, then towards the end you said you had a choice of chicken or beef..?? i didnt like the look of your meal, it looked like raw minced seafood. think id have gone for the beef curry and rice. look forward to your next travel
Haha yes on editing the video, realised I said chicken instead of fish... You'll see a FISH cover my mouth for a second as I said chicken. The fish was very tasty, and it's really street food, so its hard to make it look pretty. Well, there's a first time for everything and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so I had the same dish for the second flight to MEL!
Looking forward to this. I've avoided PAL and Cebu for various reasons. My wife flew PAL back to AU recently and told me the food was inedible........ hope you will explain the kid with what looks like a wrestler's mask?
Everyone pallete is different. And on a PAL flight they sometimes have only Filipino option which might not be to everyone's taste. Which was the case on my flight. I love heavy flavours. Haha that "kid" is in his mid twenties and was actually fascinated by my filming. You'll see him in the video, just didn't really want his face plastered on the thumbnail, that's all! 😆
@@ryansofly She is Filipina. Anyhow well done mate I have really enjoyed your series. Comments from your vid 1) Downward spiral for airlines in AU. Absolutely agree with you and not just business class BUT never flown Rex. 2) Bangus, is soooo delicious. Its the white vinegar and calamansi combination. I've been in the other terminal and they also had the secondary screening. Curiously they had what appeared to be Australian border officers for the second screening last time I was leaving looking at passports, for food, batteries and the usual tools of terror. My wife's family tells me that it is because they don't trust the locals to do it properly. But that could just be locals slandering locals. "I'm very cheap I will go for Lipton" 🤣
@@josephphillips9243 Well, as far as Aussie airlines go... I will NEVER EVER spend money flying QF in any classes. My flights with them are 100% redemption. They are such a waste of time because they offer nothing much for the money you pay. I will pay to fly JQ (Max Bundle all the way) and VA (Velocity Gold here). I have flown REX when they started their 737 services in the beginning but have not been back. But I use their Saab 340s frequently for work travels so no complaints with them. Not sure if you remembered my REX milk runs through Queensland from Brisbane through the outback and ending up in Cape York. It was 3 days worth of flights which pretty much made me deaf! Hahahahaha...
its been better if Pals use larger aircraft on either singapore or KL or japan flights they use the a320s which is smaller for business class its not worth it the seats are not good its not worth it but the service is good that i can only thumbs up
Hi Ryan! Filipino here! I mostly fly PR (Philippine Airlines) in both Business and Economy, the security issue you describe is not the usual one but depends on the time. Hope to see you!! You should try their bigger planes where you wont be disappointed especially the IFE's :) Cheers!
Kumusta my friend! My onward flight on PR209 to MEL was on the A330. That's the next episode! I was lucky with the screening because I was the first one there and only had carry on. Other passengers who were following me on PR209 with check in bags only appeared in the lounge with me some 90mins later, and they weren't happy. 🤣
@@ryansofly Im good! Yeah sometimes especially during the afternoon, the airport is busy as hell as a lot of passengers arrive on both Intl and domestic. Just for your info, manila airport was voted as the worst airport in the world and recently was voted again as the worst airport for transitting passenger. If you survive manila airport, you can survive pretty much any airport in the world. Although, the govt has been invested so much to improve and decongest the airport.

Found a GREAT business class far from singapore to sydney via manila but im having 2nd thoughts about the transit experience 😬
4 hrs transit in Mnl, flying business.
Whats ur opinion ?
Do it! You only live once. 🤣
@@ryansofly lol, ill ipdate this comment after i go thru it
@@truly_puravida awesome! Eager to hear about your experience! Good luck!
Same thing happened to me on my flight to New York via PAL transiting thru Vancouver. We were herded to a room to undergo tight security check.
Yes that extra screening is required by the 3 countries respectively. It put a lot of people off from flying them again.
@@ryansofly be looking forward to seeing your next video
Maybe they didn't sack the staff. U felt the same with changi no problem at all
what a nice around Asia trip💙
Yeah it was eventful and fun filled! Thanks for popping by...
hey diva. Do you fund most your flights using points ? I'm a massive FF points enthusiast and always looking for any tips etc.
50/50... I channel most of my non flying activity into points. Hotels, insurance, daily spend, Woolworths rewards, BP petrol Qantas rewards, Qantas health app etc ... So my QF program is almost self churning. My flying points are accumulated entirely with Jetstar Max Bundle.
Nice👏🇵🇭🇦🇺
Wonderful report. Having recently flown Philippine Airlines I can completely agree with what you have talked about in the video. The transit experience in MNL is horrible which is a shame because the airline is really good aside from that. They are very often the cheapest option from BNE and SYD to asia excluding Jetsar and Scoot.
I'm actually willing to tolerate NAIA just to fly them again... Although in business! I would not want to do this in economy and transit. Lol hell no. Thanks for watching!
@@ryansofly I just did it in economy via Singapore with a 6 hour layover in MNL, it was the longest 6 hours of my life
@@freedomflight747 mate, I feel for you. You should watch Part 2 if this video, it will definitely bring back some memories for you.
@@ryansofly I'm looking forward to my binge watching of your videos tonight
Ninoy Aquino airport always gives me so much anxiety lol. I've had the worst experiences there. Also, I loooove Bangus in any form. haha 😋
Hahahaha yes NAIA, I would not do that transit in economy class with no lounge access.
PAL is generally a good airline especially their business class product. It's the airport in Manila that ruins the experience, almost always.
Yep agree... NAIA T2 is the week link. Wait for part 2, you'll see the chaos unfold.
I absolutely love the pancit, I have an entire carton of pancit canton in my pantry.
Interesting to see plastic seats in international airport
Haha looks like a bus station, no?
What is procedure to check in baggage again after the security check (bound for Australia)? Do we need queue at check in counter outside immigration?
Planning to left airport without carry luggages during the 6-16 hours layover.
This all happens airside.... There's no need for you clear immigration during transit. You get led to a small room where checked in luggages from the previous airport is already waiting there. You'll identify which one is yours, then get it security screened. If it is busy, there is a long wait for these checked baggages to appear.
After the security checked baggage in small room , i allow to left airport into Manila City? Or I should left airport before the security check
@@reevechew if you intend to go into the city, then you'd have to clear immigration after identifying your bags
Pal cabin crew is one of the best in the world
I do not disagree! I went on PR209 MNL-MEL after this and they were wonderful there as well! Stay tuned for Part 2!
@@aongchisawon4172 indeed, I cannot wait for the new airport.
Transit in Manila is a terrible chaos😔
Yep, tell me about it! Hahahaha...
its been better if Pals use larger aircraft on either singapore or KL or japan flights they use the a320s which is smaller for business class its not worth it the seats are not good its not worth it but the service is good that i can only thumbs up
On rare occasion, PAL does deploy the A330 to Singapore. But KL remains the domain of A320/321.
Anyway, the lounge just recently opened after the covid restrictions eased down a few months ago. Waiting for the next video of your flight . :) Mabuhay!
Just for your info, manila airport was voted as the worst airport in the world and recently was voted again as the worst airport for transitting passenger. If you survive manila airport, you can survive pretty much any airport in the world. Although, the govt has been invested so much to improve and decongest the airport.
In all fairness, I wouldn't do this in economy class without lounge access.
That is business??,
Yes, this is the regional configuration. You can see the long haul configuration on the next fight I took. Link below.

@@ryansofly well I thougth it would be better than that, for business class, is more like premium economy.
@@MrDouglaswei yes most airlines are like that for short haul services.

Hahahahaha.... Singapore born Aussie. 😏
NAIA SUCKS! But that will change soon!
Thanks for the warning. I will not be traveling to the Philippines anytime soon. Avoid at all cost.
Avoid at all cost if you're flying economy class. Flying in business makes it that little bit more bearable.
PAL the most horrible airline on earth my personal experience from food to anything.
