Even China Southern, whose been criticised for only serving hot buns and drinks in economy on their shorter domestic flights, is still leaps and bounds better than any US carrier 😂
The “unions are killing airline quality” would fall a lot less flat if US carriers weren’t the most profitable on earth. US airlines get away with sub par offerings for one specific reason… because they can. Putting profit above pax experience is a choice, not a circumstance.

Very educational! I had no idea that MH had stopped flying to LAX. I flew on MH over 2 decades ago out of LAX . I was impressed by the airport in Kuala Lumpur, and the infight service was good even in economy class. I hear ya about boarding. Its interesting if you look at the history of Malaysia Airlines vs Singapore Airlines since the MSA split in 1972. How their fates have diverged. While SQ has gone from strength to strength to become one of the most profitable and best (if not the very best) premium service airline in the world, MAS...had a rather more uneven trajectory. A period of steady growth for Malaysia Airlines in the 80s and 90s and good customer service ended in 1997 with the Asian Financial Crisis. Since then the airline has a wildly up-and-down roller coaster ride in terms of profit and service. MAS has suffered from repeated losses as it struggled to compete against the growth of AirAsia and other low-cost carriers. And of course in the 2010s it suffered from the two tragic fatal crashes with no survivors, forcing MAS into bankruptcy, renationalization and massive restructuring and layoffs. The airline finally made a profit again in 2023 if I am not mistaken. Here is hoping the airline can have a brighter future and leave the turmoil of the 2010s behind.
True, but there is a massive difference between the two. SQ had a single mission from the jump. All they needed to do was fly to and from Singapore. MAS needed to develop a domestic network- likely growing it later than it should have started due to the previous MSA tie up.
@@tfft Yes, SQ has an advantage in that it only has a single hub in Singapore. However, the need to develop a domestic route network should not be some debilitating handicap for MAS. Most major international airlines today have both a well established international+domestic network. The need for MAS to develop a develop a domestic network therefore isn't an excuse for MAS's struggles since 1997. The bigger issue was mismanagement and wrong strategies by MAS.

Did you have some of the excellent Malaysian chili mud crabs while there? I love them. I always stayed at the Hilton in PJ (Petaling Jaya), between the airport and KL. There was a great chili crab restaurant two blocks from the hotel. Super convenient!
Try flying this plane from Perth to KUL. Malaysian Airline fly a 737-800 from Perth to KUL. flight time is 5 hours and 45 minutes. Considering they also fly the A332 and A333 the service can be a huge difference. The best boarding I have had with Malaysian Airline was domestic from Penang to KUL. There actually planned and places signs for every boarding stage. Each boarding stage had a separate line. Either way if you want priority boarding and baggage you can just pay for economy flex
Just a friendly reminder Kevin, rather than giving the code for most active airline, you can simply mention the full name of the airline as it becomes easy for the viewers to grab a hold of it!! But your videos are awesome ❤
"eternally stuck in adjusting mode" truer words have never been spoken about the state of Malaysia Airlines. The only thing that's constant with them is their satays in J-class. I think their peak was during Hibiscus 747 "An experienced redefined" livery (to promote AVOD IFE) and Heliconia 777 "Freedom of space" livery (to promote J-class cocoon seat). I think these were one of the most beautiful liveries the industry had seen.
You flew during the month of Ramadan (as the date on the iPad says March 23), so alcohol was not available during your flight. Normally they serve alcohol on regional flights even in economy and free of charge.
I fly MH regularly for economy short hauls and quite enjoy them. The service is a highlight, slightly below SQ and on par with Garuda and better than Thai Airways and the current CX service (which has sadly gone downhill vs. pre-COVID). However, I think MH positioning in these shorter routes can be a bit awkward. Kinda felt like a lite national carrier (slightly worse on-time-ness, poor IFE, lower selection on drinks and food) but better in all of these aspects than a budget carrier. The price is appropriately in between. Having an in between positioning is usually not easy.
This was a fair and most balanced review of MH. Thank you for doing this, albeit on a regional biz config. Looking forward to your MH international review if any are in the works. I am just curious, how do you manage to travel so much while managing a few restaurants?
KL is massive and efficient but…the Immigration line… it reminded me of early arrival at MIA from South America… a nightmare 😳😳😳. Love your content as always!! Stay Healthy
I agree it used to always be at least 40 mins to get through immigration in KL, but now with the eGates, I have breezed through on both occasions since implemented.
Have to correct you there...terminal 2 was not built 'for' & certainly not 'by' Air Asia.Them (Air Asia) were even like in disagreement to move there initially.😅 It was just a replacement to the old low cost terminal on the other side of the airport which to me resembles an inter-city express bus terminal 🫢. As for history, issues & delays in the completion of terminal 2....people may google that themselves (too long to write history lesson here 😅).
I flew with them twice this year from Bangkok to KL and the KL to Phuket. Flying with them was fine and food was ok, however the airport experience to actually get on the flight was chaotic. No organisation with queuing at all. It was all over the place.
A compass and a map of the airport would help a lot. Runways are named based with the first two digits being the heading in degrees rounded off to the nearest 10 degrees, then if there are parallel runways (left, right or centre) you can see which runway you are on when you look out of the window as you are taxiing to the runway.
Hello Jersey friend! I enjoy your travel documentaries the most. I do prefer that, for now, you show the complete takeoff of the jet you are traveling on. Before that, you sped up the video to get up to the clouds. I know you have/had a channel for that but I prefer to see the whole thing in real time. You are missing some beautiful low humidity, cool weather in the U.S. right now. I could take October year round!!
As a long time TK flyer, for over 30 years in all cabins, I can say that the catering is very repetitive and uninspiring. I cannot recount how many times I had Aubergines, pumpkin soup, baklava, Turkish meatballs (köfte) with bulgur and farmed sea bass 😅 😉 I guess it is just like the MENA airlines and their mezze offerings. TK has become a political tool of the Erdogan government, as can be seen with the recent NYC Mayor Eric Adams indictment. I avoid them on a personal principle. But I guess it is best to know less of the politics behind the scenes as an ordinary FF 😉
I was going to reply and say the same exact thing lol. If you look at two of my previous TK video- one long haul Business and one short haul Economy… the main dish of the meal was the exact same chicken dish 😂
i wasn't know the KLIA and KLIA2 it's been reamed to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2! i visit Kuala Lampur airport many times but this is the first time seeing a train connecting to satellite terminal is out of service and using a busses instead

I do like the background info you give out, does give you a difference. Obviously more so with the kangaroo route, but the standard flights also have the right amount. I was hoping you were going for the fried fish. With gravy. Er, ok. Chilli gravy ... interesting. Dried chilli gravy ... what on mother earth? Is that the 5th state of matter? I cried tears inside when you went for the chicken, it will be a blank on my deathbed as my life passes before my eyes.... maybe I need to hop down there ...
Flew Malaysia Air recently. Crew were friendly, seat comfortable, food pretty average. In whole they were ok, but if I had the choice of Qantas, Emirates, Singapore I wouldn't bother with Malaysia Air.
The tablet holder situation definitely a mess. I had my phone dropped on the floor many times (even on my food) when the person in front of me reclined.
7:02 Why have you slipped in a subtle “Emirates” at this point in the video? Subliminal messaging? Love your videos OMG just got 17.02 and there was a subtle “And I like that” inserted into the audio also 🤔
Realli think Changi and KLIA should follow what BKK has done for immigration (the exit part, ie not at gate, it just makes so much more sense). The catering part for MH was a pity, the food was better previously. On another note MH does give you that warmth feeling when travelling to KL from a foreign land
A simple suggestion, not mandatory though. Just include the names of food items being displayed in the video 🥹, this can really help in ordering one of those if we encounter them in any restaurant or somewhere else😅
Good review, Kevin. MA has its good points, but they let me down on my last in-country short-hauls. Next time I'm visiting the country, I'll probably go with .... Singapore Airlines. And may I compliment you on your habitual 'on point' pronunciation of things foreign.
12:25 butt many European airlines don't even serve food, what else alcohol for regional flight. I was on Finnair from ams to hel, they only give me juice and water 😢. Not even snacks or cookies.
12:23 😆 I would agree but then again I fly UA short hops praying that I will get a bag of chips. Edit: 18:20 See Ryanair you can butter a landing in a 737
Their online payment system is a nightmare. Tried to book Melbourne - KL - Tokyo for January. Every time there was an issue with payment. Kept dropping out and going back to the main page. Booked Cathay Pacific instead in the end. Sad because I used to fly to Paris four times a year with Malaysia a decade ago. Their satays in business class are the best though.
0:55 I blame the mess that is KLIA T1 and T2 is down to greed and corruption. KLIA had an original masterplan that made perfect design sense and coherence that allows for a seamless transition between the different terminals. Out of nowhere KLIA2 came up and totally abandoned the beautiful original masterplan and T2 was built with so much cost cutting the initial design didn’t even include travelators. It was added after they realised how long and far the walks are from your gate to baggage claim would be. I loathe every time when MAS air fairs during peak season are too expensive and I have no choice but to take air Asia and use T2.

@@tfft You would understand why I would comment in such a way when your flight is canceled and you can't get through any of their hotlines or live chat for days. Their rescheduled timing is absurd and totally unacceptable. Not only would booking another flight on short notice cost me more, but I also had to change my itinerary. It's not due to weather or technical issue but Malaysia Airlines' service manpower and parts shortage. All this could be avoided. Totally lost faith in their service ever since.
Just to correct you there, MH never served JFK. They served EWR instead. Also, quite interesting that you prefer the new seat because I can't tell you the number of Malaysians moaning about how "bad" the new seats are, how there's no IFEs etc....
Waiting eagerly for your Bhutan Airways flight to my most favorite city in India. Pity that you didn’t have time to visit the city, but you must if you ever find an opportunity. If not for anything, but just for its insane street food scene. It puts Singapore to shame, IF AND ONLY IF you can take the filth out of the equation. Kolkata, or Calcutta, has the only existing Chinatown, a walled one, in South Asia, still serving Cantonese food in its restaurants.
An interesting video. Like a lot of people, I've avoided Malaysia Airlines since 2014. I was therefore not aware that it had suspended almost all of its long intercontinental services, including its flights to LAX. For more than 20 years, the flight I took with MH from LAX to TPE in 1998 was my longest flight sector ever, and it was pretty good. The ensuing, much shorter, sector, from TPE to KUL, was even more memorable, as the MH 747-400 was so lightly loaded with passengers and fuel that it felt like it was jumping into the air as it departed from TPE, rather than just taking off. Those were the days.
Lack of entertainment is a problem and no drinks under3 hour flight why would you pay business class rates. I would go with another airline that supplies
You are rite. For the price / value of biz class. This is a total joke. Beside Non Alcoholic drinks during less than 2 hrs. If you don’t bring your own tablet or no carry headset, you will not be able to access the IFE WiFi. Either u bring a book with u or just do meditation during the whole flight. 😅 also sometime the WiFi is not working at all. The dining table is flimsy & seat are much harder. The so call upgraded fleet with the NG status is very misleading. Hence if I have a choice I would pick Thai airways biz anytime for the regional route. As TG deploy wide body fleet rather than the tiny old narrow body. Similarly, lots of people would rather take a short flight to Singapore & fly sq for regional or international flights due to better value & quality offer under the same business class product. They should be more realistic as if they can’t compete with the product quality for biz class than they should consider lower the price against their competitors just like BA. ( KL - London route) better value for money than MH. The only consolation is the Malaysian hospitality that offered by the cabin crews. They are consider one of the best service crews.
Hey hey hey Kevin ! Welcome to KL & hope you had a great transit. Oh yea, thanks for doing your part to help us taxpayers save some money bail this “experimental” national pride year in year out. Enough said 😂.
The INSANE quality of Asian Airlines is definitely something that US Airlines MUST learn.
We Asians really focus on representation, hospitality, quality, that's why you see Asians airlines are way better than the west

@@tfft You hit bulls eye. It's correct, MAS needed to serve Malaysia unlike SQ who is far more commercial minded, and just focus on international. Maybe that's why Singapore was kicked out in the federation as their mindset is very narrow and selfish. However, good news is that Malaysia now has MAS and AA to serve domestic, and international routes out of Malaysia.

Did you have some of the excellent Malaysian chili mud crabs while there? I love them. I always stayed at the Hilton in PJ (Petaling Jaya), between the airport and KL. There was a great chili crab restaurant two blocks from the hotel. Super convenient!
"When you're chasing status......the things you'll do."
Super relatable XD
Try flying this plane from Perth to KUL. Malaysian Airline fly a 737-800 from Perth to KUL. flight time is 5 hours and 45 minutes. Considering they also fly the A332 and A333 the service can be a huge difference.
The best boarding I have had with Malaysian Airline was domestic from Penang to KUL. There actually planned and places signs for every boarding stage. Each boarding stage had a separate line.
Either way if you want priority boarding and baggage you can just pay for economy flex
I wouldn't have any problem flying this from KL to Perth. Was on a 737 in a similar seat for 7 hours recently.
@tfft by all means fly the 737. However for the same price you could have flown the A330 for the Perth to KL and return route.
Just a friendly reminder Kevin, rather than giving the code for most active airline, you can simply mention the full name of the airline as it becomes easy for the viewers to grab a hold of it!! But your videos are awesome ❤
Kevin you honestly have the most soothing voice,. Its like ASMR for my soul. 😊
Amazing video, Kevin!
Look at that food in the lounge.. damn! 😮❤
“When you’re chasing tarts, the tings you do” 😂
I know that feeling! 😅
You flew during the month of Ramadan (as the date on the iPad says March 23), so alcohol was not available during your flight. Normally they serve alcohol on regional flights even in economy and free of charge.
MH doesn't serve alcohol on flights under three hours, has nothing to do with Ramadan. DPS is the shortest flight with alcohol available.
If Ramadan or anything religious ever affects MH operations then they will be going downhill.
Have to correct you there...terminal 2 was not built 'for' & certainly not 'by' Air Asia.Them (Air Asia) were even like in disagreement to move there initially.😅
It was just a replacement to the old low cost terminal on the other side of the airport which to me resembles an inter-city express bus terminal 🫢.
Hi Kevin, how were you able to get the flight stats like runway used, etc? Would love to figure this out on my flights as well. Love the channel.
A compass and a map of the airport would help a lot. Runways are named based with the first two digits being the heading in degrees rounded off to the nearest 10 degrees, then if there are parallel runways (left, right or centre) you can see which runway you are on when you look out of the window as you are taxiing to the runway.
I use a combination of FlightRadar24, Flighty and Flightsfrom for all of my stats.
Thanks for the info + video!!!
The MH lounge over at the satellite terminal sure looks quiet. In contrast to the lounge over at KLIA T1, it sure looks comparatively deserted.
G'day Kevin, another great review!
I can’t wait for Turkish airlines vid they’re food looks so good
As a long time TK flyer, for over 30 years in all cabins, I can say that the catering is very repetitive and uninspiring.
Yah, train has been out of service for quite a long time.
Yes, it's just temporary, the aerotrain was out of stock for 2 years. But, good news, it will be back up by Jan/Feb next year!
Thanks Sharing .MAS was my favourite airline until MH 370 Incident . Last flew with MAS in 2014.Singapore Air is our favourite anywhere in the world from SYD
MAS actually has a very strong appeal, it's better than budget but, not super premium price hence, it's perfect product for 70% - 80% of business/travelers out there.
I love Malaysian Airlines 🇲🇾👍
I love your videos! Whenever you are able, will you please review KLM new 777 business class or the 787-9 business class? I’d love to know your honest opinion :) Thank you for creating!
I'm trying to think... but honestly don't think I've ever ordered fried food on a plane. They're just setting themselves up for failure lol
The soft "mmm I like that" whisper was shocking to hear. LOL
UA-cam loves the drama- but I don’t lol
@@tfft the flip flop traveler nsfw leak
🎉 finally!
Thanks for watching 🩴
8:31 alright fine since you were waiting ...
Flew Malaysia Air recently. Crew were friendly, seat comfortable, food pretty average. In whole they were ok, but if I had the choice of Qantas, Emirates, Singapore I wouldn't bother with Malaysia Air.
Qantas no way, go with Singapore if I have a choice
Eagerly awaiting a review of Park Hyatt Taipei which should open sometime next year 😄
The tablet holder situation definitely a mess. I had my phone dropped on the floor many times (even on my food) when the person in front of me reclined.
I always enjoyed the MH IFE. Good movie choices.
They will serve beer on this route in business if asked.
7:02 Why have you slipped in a subtle “Emirates” at this point in the video? Subliminal messaging?
Love your videos
OMG just got 17.02 and there was a subtle “And I like that” inserted into the audio also 🤔
It's not subliminal. He was just mentioning that MH is not flying to Emirates anymore.
A nod to what actually drove the change in the industry.
Airline should bring back wine along with meals in flight that is below 3 hours. The in-flight info system does not work over 50% of time.
Great Video And Info
The sneaky 'and I like that...'
Realli think Changi and KLIA should follow what BKK has done for immigration (the exit part, ie not at gate, it just makes so much more sense). The catering part for MH was a pity, the food was better previously. On another note MH does give you that warmth feeling when travelling to KL from a foreign land
Nice little flight, short and sweet 🎉. The inflight catering looked decent and the food at your lounge looked pretty darn tasty 😋
A simple suggestion, not mandatory though. Just include the names of food items being displayed in the video 🥹, this can really help in ordering one of those if we encounter them in any restaurant or somewhere else😅
The menu was literally in the video lol
Good review, Kevin. MA has its good points, but they let me down on my last in-country short-hauls. Next time I'm visiting the country, I'll probably go with .... Singapore Airlines.
And may I compliment you on your habitual 'on point' pronunciation of things foreign.
I’m gonna screen shot this comment and use it as my reply to all of the “you mispronounced _______!!!” comments I get😅
star alliance silver for mas 🎉
Thank you for catching that- I was worried it was all for nothing hahaha
MAS is not with Star Alliance- they’re with OneWorld
12:25 butt many European airlines don't even serve food, what else alcohol for regional flight. I was on Finnair from ams to hel, they only give me juice and water 😢. Not even snacks or cookies.
In business? I was on that exact flight and got a full meal lol
My finger disagrees that pushing that Like Button is without effort 😅👍🏻
All things in life worth having need a bit of effort haha.
Oh you didn't get to try the BMW shuttle service!
EMBORG butter , from my city :D so do Emborg Catering do the FULL menu? or just the butter ?
Just the butter I presume. Emborg is probably the most prominent western food service dairy brand in SE Asia.
@@tfft i find it funny as Aalborg city is not that known for that kinda stuff.
12:23 😆 I would agree but then again I fly UA short hops praying that I will get a bag of chips.
Edit: 18:20 See Ryanair you can butter a landing in a 737
kevin! il be flying oman air buisness in january return any tips?
Order the local dish, whatever it is!
Malaysia Airline doesn't fly commercial flight to Amsterdam Schiphol, last was 16th Janaury 2016. They only fly with only cargo
What is the VIS COUNT aircraft you refer to. Are you referring to VI COUNT aircraft, even though it is spelt Viscount?
Mes plus sincères excuses pour ne pas parler couramment le français.
Viscount is pronounced “Vaycount” - great video thanks
I don't speak French 😉
Is there a tram or train that connects T1 and T2? Or only bridging bus?
There's a train but its not free, the bus is free
Their online payment system is a nightmare. Tried to book Melbourne - KL - Tokyo for January. Every time there was an issue with payment. Kept dropping out and going back to the main page. Booked Cathay Pacific instead in the end. Sad because I used to fly to Paris four times a year with Malaysia a decade ago. Their satays in business class are the best though.
Business is all about morality and dignity enabling customer trust to transform into revenue.
Just a random thought but I really hope Vietnam Airlines to introduce new cabins by now.
Why? lol. Their wide bodies all have very competitive products and their narrow bodies had a new cabin introduced a few years ago.

Based on history Singapore Airlines is branched from Malaysian Airlines akin to a subsidiary? By simple deduction Malaysian Airlines should be better than SQ...

Maybe that's why Singapore was kicked out in the federation as their mindset is very narrow and selfish. However, good news is that Malaysia now has MAS and AA to serve domestic, and international routes out of Malaysia.
@leealex24 MH is world number 1 airlines by virtue of it's SQ subsidiary. Everybody knows correct? MH number 1 airlines... because SQ comes from MAS.
Number 1
Uhm...Malaysia Airlines is part of Oneworld so why would staff call on Star Alliance members?
Uhm… it was a joke 😉
what's the use when the whole flight can get cancelled.
Well I mean what’s the point of anything with that attitude? Lol
They flew to JFK via ARN, ending in October 2009.
I few MH from EZE to JNB about 17 years ago in J Class.
The crew was awesome, however the food was Horrible! Raw chicken, Lamb Jerky! 😮
VI-COUNT, Sir. The "s" is not pronounced. SO appreciate your vids, FFT.
I don't speak French 😉
0:05 I mean, we COULD be here for the food.
I mean, it could have been a cat video too...
Entertaining
Actually Malaysian airlines staffs are respectful and kind compared to rude airasia staff. Luckily Malaysian airlines didn't go bankrupt.
another fantastic video, you've inspired me to start my own aviation channel, 8 flights lined up at Christmas
Pretty sad that an international flight particularly business class can't offer a wine with meal service
I got a bit spooked by some dodgy incidents these few years. Sq too tho.
nice airlines...
So having a $14 bottle of wine available makes a business class fare worth it? 😂
I don't think he sat on business class.
Hey hey hey Kevin ! Welcome to KL & hope you had a great transit. Oh yea, thanks for doing your part to help us taxpayers save some money bail this “experimental” national pride year in year out. Enough said 😂.
Well... you didn't last year lol
“2am in the morning”. Nope. It’s either just 2am OR 2 in the morning. Not both. Sorry, just a silly pet peeve.
My sincerest apologies for mispeaking.
